I like the cdi setup. Have you ran the engine without the drive belt to see what rpm its running at full throttle? You can also mess with the torque converter for it to engage at different rpms. On a 30 series driver pulley, you need to drill holes in the weights to lighten them. This will make it engage at a higher rpm. Also you can tighten the spring in the driven pulley, sometimes you need to drill a small hole to set the spring in a different position. That will keep it from going into high gear as fast. For some applications they are fine as they are, but i usually end up adjusting mine to get them exactly how i want them. Looking forward to seeing how the clutch performs.

@@RedBeardsGarage have you considered sprocket changes to improve top speed and upgrading to a 40 series and swap to a 420 non Hemi engine more horsepower from the start and set the engine the same way as your current engine a stock 212 makes about 8 horsepower but a 420 makes around 12 to 13 horsepower a 420 non hemi with the same setup as your current engine could put out around 15 to 16 horsepower and probably 22 to 25 foot pounds of torque and have a top speed of maybe 55 to 60 mph with a 13 tooth sprocket on the transmission side and a 47 tooth sprocket on the rear wheel side be a lot closer to a real motorcycle as far as gearing is concerned.

Thanks for bringing back one of my favs....I bought a mini bike to work on after finding you and then others recently on youtube, and I thought I understood the clutch v torque converter, but now I'm not so sure. Video idea- can you brake down the considerations when deciding on clutch, racing clutch, versus converter and in the same conversation engine selection? For example, the decision tree someone would go through when they have a stated goal. If I want this mini bike to do at least XX mph, or have XX torque to climb hills, what are my options and then factor in price of those options. Doing a stage 3 build on a 212 does not seem nearly as economical as just buying a 301 off the bat, but with all the options out there its hard to decide what combo to go for. Thank for all you do!

I have a question that may sound stupid, but here goes. I have an older MB200 with the centrifugal clutch. When the rear squats on a bump or going around corners, the chain gets loose and comes off. I talked to the owner of the local go kart shop, and he said they quit selling them years ago because of that problem. I wondering if anybody knows a fix? I'm thinking of trying a spring loaded chain tentioner, or if all else fails, turning it into a hard tail. Any suggestions?

I'm running a Tillotson 212, billet rod, governor delete, Tillotson Bansai .265 wide powerband low duration cam, and Tillotson TCT carb, mild porting, header, 28 degree advance PVL flywheel. On a Coleman ex, 240 lb. rider, I get 43 mph and it stays that way with the clutch downshifting with increased rpms going up a hill. It pulls regardless until the cam runs out. What's the duration of that cam? Seems to be all top end and the cvt won't let it even get close to the powerband. I'm running a rpm restrictive carb and cam for low and mid-range power up to 5000-5500 rpm. How much initial timing you running? Something doesn't seem to be working with that set up. Mines scary quick and the carb is restrictive as hell. I also use a green comet secondary spring and adjusted it for delayed shift.

For those asking about that set up, this is what I did to get a steady 13.8 to 14 1/2-ish volts on an electric start Tillotson 212 with the factory flywheel:
    - Honda 31630-ZE2-861 Coil Charge (10A)
    - 1PZ FW1-R01 4-Pin 12V Full-wave Motorcycle Voltage Regulator Rectifier
That coil is designed to put out something like 28 to 30V and 10A. it fits under the fly wheel. Snugly, but it does fit.
The rectifier regulator is a full wave type, so it definitely doesn’t leave me undervoltage. I don’t know what it is rated for, amps-wise, but I guess I will see if it holds up.
Hopefully whatever the amp output is is enough to charge a lithium battery and run some lights, and isn’t too much to burn out the rectifier regulator or battery.

Get a noram 1600 clutch or a noram enforcer. I have a 1600 with plain springs so engage at 2400rpm on my vertical shaft motorcycle. But ima prob change to an enforcer cause these vertical shaft engine have a load of torque.

You need a manual trans engine on that sucker like a 150 dirt bike motor or something. Maybe a ttr230 motor would be sick and youd absolutely fly on that thing if you wanted to but the manual transmission would allow you to stay at whatever speed you wanted and not worry.

Put lighter weights in the drive pulley of the CVT. It will get the revs up and make more hp before it gears up.
