Thanks for the invitation to this conversation. Paul and Bard have really led this whole movement and deserve a ton of credit for the number of men's lives that they have positively influenced. I see so much potential here!

I'm imagining a sort of "Year Round Retreat" where you essentially pay a monthly fee for living in a small village with only men close to nature but with a good internet connection so you can do your day job but still have a community around you that live among eachother.

Paul, you hit it on the head when you talked about how lots of groups just sit and talk about how shit sucks. I find that alot within the manosphere and I find that Maniphestos answer to the problem of sex and life is so much more virile and comprehensive especially to a man such as myself that has a strong drive to build a family.

Agreed. The Menshed project was a golden nugget in this regard. Essentially older men meet up and build a woodshop together where they then can spend time together, while actually doing something useful.

It was a pleasure and delight to listen to you four discuss this critical topic, and I appreciated the idea of making “sexual difference” something enjoyable versus a source of pain. I also appreciated the reflection on how masculinity thrives when it moves from habits of “instantaneous gratification” to “delayed gratification,” and really like the idea of “the isolated phallus”-that’s an excellent descriptor. Indeed, the isolated phallus seems to get locked into cycles that make the male even less desired by women, which causes further isolation, on and on. I am a big fan of the idea that a role of Men’s Groups is to help men escape “the cycle of the isolated phallus”-that’s very convincing to me. I was very fortunate to be surrounded by older men growing up, to live on a farm, and to be heavily involved in sports, but not everyone is so lucky. Men’s work is needed, so thank you for what you are doing here.

For me, you guys are right on target. Maybe even a hair soft in some respects. But I'd like to see you team up with someone like Ian MacKenzie (also an Iron John fan) toward attracting a broader spectrum of men. My fear is that a lot of men will be intimidated by the tone and content here, depending on their upbringing.
But all in all, this was a brilliant talk. The way Owen described the experience of being an addict brought tears to my eyes. And then Cadell's triad...wow.

It used to be that men needed symbolic and academic guidance (like a priest) in order to re-enter the world and do some sort of physical labor. Today we need physical labor as symbolic therapy (like Maniphesto) in order to work academically...

Where in Sweden has Bard been? In a box? Men in groups and guys who fill entire rooms exist and have existed for centuries. It may be that Alexander lived in a sheltered workshop, but men who hang out with other men happen all the time.
The church, the Masonic order, in sports, in pubs, intellectual clubs, etc. So where has Bard lived?

    • @ManiphestoMen

The church is an excellent example of a traditionally male led institution which has been largely taken over and is now dominated by women. Masonic orders are increasingly dinosaurs, pubs are generally mixed gender these days as are intellectual clubs. Yes, there are still male-only domains, but they are far fewer and the majority of men do not experience them.

Even if such venues exist, it's not to say any men's work is getting done. Certain settings or activities could be counter-productive. Church (for instance) is all about repression and inhibition, rather than expression and integration.
