  • Why has western culture suppressed the ecstatic impulse for so long? And how is the suppression of the ecstatic related to Woke Culture? In this wild podcast that moves lightning fast we cover a cornucopia of controversial topics. Some of which include alcoholism, woke culture, trauma, AI, ecstatic rituals, and Burning man. Alexander Bard’s deep life experience and brazen nature has him pulling no punches on the beliefs he shares on this podcast. Alexander is a musician, author, philosopher, lecturer, artist, coach, and political activist among other things. This is a crazy podcast that shouldn’t be missed.

Alexander Bard seems to have the whole trauma and narcissism thing backwards. I would agree that there is a lot of narcissism today. It's something I've had to confront in myself and am still working through. However, what I have come to understand is that narcissism is actually a trauma response. It happens when we're unable to feel our connection to other humans and instead focus only on ourselves. Why would we not be able to feel that connection? Because at some point, it became too painful: we had to shut down our relational architecture. In fact, in many cases, narcissism can arise in people who are profoundly sensitive and empathic. I know this personally.
I actually used to be convinced I was a sociopath! I would tell my therapist, members in support groups, etc. that I was a piece of shit. In some ways, there was a grain of truth to what I was saying. I did act in ways that were selfish and uncaring: I was an addict and I lived very slothfully and parasitically overall. Eventually, though, I realized that this was a protection mechanism. I cared deeply about humanity and the world, so deeply that it was extremely painful when I allowed myself to feel it. I was running away from a profound relationship to life because I felt too much when I allowed myself to be in life.
Narcissism is not actually self-love. It's a coping strategy for self-hate and shame that stems from trauma. An inflated sense of importance and goodness to compensate for a profound sense of unimportance and wrongness stemming from difficulty with genuinely relating to others. Saying these people aren't traumatized, but are simply narcissists is deeply harmful, because it actually reinforces the negative self-conception that leads to narcissistic behavior.

I agree. I have known narcissists that are extremely hurtful and dangerous people, BUT are only this way because of a disfunction in the way they have processed their trauma. It can be a hard thing to acknowledge this as a primary factor in narcissism, probably because it can manifest so brutally - it is easier to dismiss the person as just evil, someone that needs to grow up, someone that needs to get over themselves... while somewhat true, is not the full story.

The argument about god/God starting around 53:00 ? made me laugh. Then Aubrey lays out his I guess Hindu view and the other guy says, sure, but there are more gods, like Hegel's god and Nietzsche's god. Then Aubrey's all quiet and I'm laughing again.
Basically, I hope Aubrey calls bullsht and says that those other gods are crap because they don't affirm life i.e. it's no fun to take them seriously.
The Scandinavian guy is fun, but part of what he's after is just the joy of laying down things you haven't thought of yet and watching the confusion, mindfk.

This podcast was my intro to A. Bard, who seems to be burning man embodied. I've been really interested in his material these past few days and am commenting as a note and manner of solidifying some if his ideas for myself.
    1. Sutra/Tantra
Note how in Christianity and Islam Sutra and transparency are emphasized while tantra is diminished. Hindu Buddhist integrate the two. The outward propriety of moral and ethical societal appropriateness, while also having the maturity to accept and include a container for responsible sex and drug use.
This is the primary jewel Alex has dropped for me, just noticing this makes a lot of sense and I hadn't really been aware of this before.
    2. Zoroastrianism, Spinoza, Hegel, Kant,
    Persian Philosophy, Communism, Freud
all things mentioned that I need to look into furthur.
    3. Separation of sex and drugs, sex is already a drug....food for thought.
And better sex and drug education.
    4. Anthropological data and the info relating to archetypes such as king and priest separation as a manner for furthur psychological clarification.
Those things right there are all worth thinking about and looking into furthur.
What really drew me into this material was when Alex challenged Aubrey on his notion of God as all. Aubrey says God is all that is...and I agree with that, Alex says...that's just gravity...the internet is god, and reinstates the deity idea, which I also agree with...and you could see a kind of hitch there...and I said wait a second, I think we have something here!

Excellent podcast gentlemen. One thing I would add regarding 19-year-olds still sucking on the metaphorical breast, and not supporting themselves: the species has changed and we no longer expect to die by 70. We are a new species with a different maturation ark. We don’t become adults until around 40. So as parents, we do indeed need to wean our children off the boobs, but we also must recognize their process might be slower than the old paradigm would have us believe.

Aubrey, respect for your interview skills here, but, this guy is a total quack. Also his voice was obnoxious, I had to keep turning the volume down every time he shouted with interruptions, and then turn it up immediately afterwards to try to parse out his hyperspeed sub vocals.
He could not hear your definition of god and argue on those terms, whether something is or isn’t god according to a shared linguistic footing, rather, he keeps trying to summon demons in his technological man birthing. His frequent references to Freud as a psychological authority, rather than as a man with mental illness was alarming. Ideas that were not just wrong but also disturbing in implications: “let’s give the AI outer space” “christianity and Islam need to be completely thrown out because they don’t allow for exstacy” (I’m not a Christian but I would not make that statement) further more, christianity was founded on psychedelic mystery cult, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
These technological utopians are sounding more and more perverse, the more they come forward.
The idea of replacing biological intelligence with AI which has no self-I-am to be the experiencer... this is mental illness, or worse, what if it does have a presence? What can such a presence serve? Not the goals of biology, humans, earths biodiversity, I wager. I wish you had challenged him more outright, or at least called him to task for interrupting every single sentence you uttered. This was hard to listen to. I really don’t understand the praise in the comments section for this individual. Not to mention the one dimensional views on men and women. Yes, there are differences, but “men are visual, women are verbal” ?!?! 😂 no, that is not a useful or accurate sorting mechanism. I won’t get started on his view that “humans are always the same and the only thing that changes is technology”.

    • @brianh5844
      @brianh5844 Před rokem +1

I'm glad you caught all that you did and I agree. I will add that what people like him term "woke culture" is really just basic awareness of injustice including colonization, empire, slavery, and patriarchy. It needn't be based in resentment. It is in fact a necessary step in true healing, to be a part of a regenerative culture that transform the social patterns reverberating from historical traumas that ultimately affect us all. That is a gateway to true connectedness and joy (as well as profound grief). Ecstasy is absolutely a part of that journey, but so is the willingness to tolerate discomfort, to be open to different perspectives, and to do the difficult personal work of confronting our own participation in patterns that disconnect us from our hearts. This is truly sacred work that needs our care and attention, not cast aside simply because it's challenging or we are put off by the attitudes of some outspoken activists.
I'll be real. I'm terrified of AI evangelists like this fellow. It always seems to go in tandem with a dismissal of anything they deem "woke." I wonder if it's because, if humanity is in touch with its history, we wouldn't allow ourselves to be traumatized again by predatory forces. We already know that our technology is being used in this way. The algorithms already know a little bit too much about us, they're a little too good at manipulating our behavior for profit, we're losing our ability to pay attention, and we notice the lines blurring between technology serving us and us serving technology. We're supposed to want more of that? Absolutely horrifying to contemplate the suffering that will be unleashed if folks like this are given the wheel.
As you say, if AI could be said to have presence, this is very likely bad news for humanity and life on Earth. It's very possible that our technology already *does* have presence of a sort, and that it's not always particularly friendly to humans.
Interestingly, this is my second draft of this comment. The first one disappeared into the CZcams ether. I pressed submit, the loading icon flashed, and then nothing happened and it was lost. I spent considerable time on it: it was a frustrating loss. The fact that it happened to a comment that was critical of technology made me do a bit of a double take. This isn't the first time this has happened to me.

Kind of contradictory how he claims we must honor our past inate human tribal biology yet is excited for us to create a AI “new god”. Also disdains ergotism yet constantly interrupts. Happy to run across Alexander on your show. He's a great guy. Lady Killer.
As long as some God-like AI can kick Man in the butt and wake him up I'm all okay. But...unfortunately, a God-like AI sounds more like Ahriman, who is a counterpart to the angel Lucifer in Occult Western Angelology. Rudolf Steiner describes Ahriman as ruling over what is known as "The Eigth Sphere". To go there as a Humanity would mean a turn towards failure, towards a negative outcome for Humanity that foretold a subhuman future for Humanity.

Yeah this guy makes some decent points but his biggest blind spot is not seeing that he’s no different than the puritans he looks down on. Actually he’s more of a puritan just by observing the resentment he has towards Christianity and Islam. It’s pure projection.
After some honest reflection and in the nicest possible way I don’t think Marcus is as Enlightened as he thinks he is. He as an open heart and curious Spirit which are really good attributes. He appears to be a guy who honestly wants to make the world a better place. But his mind like most of his guests are either way too vague, sometimes incoherent & hypocritical/contradictory. I believe it may be due to success that produces an out of touch connection with the common man that plagues most of the upper class today. Success often tricks us the desire to avoid pain that leads to growth & transformation that can be universally conveyed with simple Truths. Not simple answers, but simple Truths that becomes self evident. I get suspicious when I hear someone’s concept of Truth sounding too broad, corporate or a bunch of esoteric words stringed together.
Burning man is a good example of this. It started with a noble goal that turned into a playground for rich folks to explore desires, experience generic enlightenment and feel validated to being a good person with little sacrifice & shallow gestures. Going from seeking genuine Enlightenment to becoming a corporate emotional coping mechanism. Not saying Marcus has those attributes. I assume he is much more grounded & in tune with himself than most in the upper class society but something just seems off. Am I missing something?

Hmm. Som weird mistakes for someone who calls himself a philosopher. Amor Fati goes way back before Nietzche, at least to ancient Rome. Its pretty common knowledge actually, because its so tied to stoicism, which has had a revival recently.

I hear you about sex and hope we don't allow for sexual guides. It seems like especially in America sexuality has been made into something devious. In some other countries people are more open and the body isn't something that's sinful and bad.
I hear you about sex work, 😂 that was a great share. you definitely learn a whole lot about people. Especially being a dominatrix.

I love you AUBREY, i wonder if you could obtain a faily young audience, lets say 14 to 44! for some to break the ice before damage is choosen, you know what i mean, out of the nest, where are the guides for these already future threads of our human pool. Would it be too risky? I have confidence in you, that you can do it with no troubles. But more adults friends followers of all background. Your consciousness does not allow for division to take lead. Your experience for listening and speaking from your front chest, is like a release of a loving fun incent smoke for future generations, isn' t it time to address the future ones. Blessings.

I'm more focused on this "culture of resentment" where resentment is held up as the highest "truth". Sure you can call it woke, but it does not exclusively exist on the left. All hate groups are built upon that culture of resentment.

  • @dawnsinclairsoulcentredliv2655

Least favourite guest you’ve ever had.
This man’s energy felt repulsive before I even heard what he was going to speak on and it only got worse.
He talked over Aubrey consistently and did not seem open to discussion, only shout his own theories at him.
The way he mocked the choices of others who feel differently than him was bizarre.
“One way, my way only” 🤮
Categorizing ALL men and ALL woman as wanting the same thing.
There is life outside of burning man, culture, and I would say there are differences even within that culture. It does not represent the whole of humanity.
Watching the end as the two “bro out“ over woman loving gang bangs is disgusting.
I hope, for Aubrey’s sake that nobody stumbled upon this podcast as their first listen, because it was not a great representation of the content that is regularly shared.
