One of the rules is having a profile picture, but it isn't clear what you mean by that. If it's a photo of ourselves, that's something many won't be comfortable with. Hopefully it's just having something that isn't just the default. I notice that the admin has a photo of locks, so I'm guessing it's the latter.
Any picture will do. Just make sure you answer the questions to get in.

From what I've seen on discord, a lot of people don't seem to like/use FB. Advance sale notification sounds like it would be good especially if you can get all the worldwide companies on board.
There are several groups on Facebook that have over 15,000 members. The communities are larger than the discord group. It’s a good avenue. I don’t need to get worldwide companies on board. There are 28 companies and only seven are worth dealing with or collecting. It’s not a hard ask. I don’t even need permission. It’s just me being polite.

I think you’re looking into it too much. Facebook is just easier to manage and there’s more people on Facebook. Nobody over the age of 40 wants to go onto discord chat.
