    As a licensed cosmetologist THANK YOU for showing the proper technique! The blowdry is the most important step in the process. If the hair isn’t straight blowdried then it will be frizzy later even with all the serums and sprays. Also thank you for correctly using the heat protectants. Sprays go on wet hair, blowdry, and then serum on dry hair but serum can be used on wet hair before the blowdry as well. I see so many stylists spraying wet heat protectant on dry hair and then taking an iron tool to damp hair & I’m like noooo🫨😂😂😂

      @@Darlingnik I don't know what she uses but I can tell you what I do that gives me a great silk press on my type 4 hair.
      1. Wash with a shampoo that removes product build-up and deep condition. Rinse out the deep condition and do not use a leave-in.
      2. I use any liquid heat protectant before blow drying my hair and a very small amount of the Chi Silk Infusion before blow drying my hair. Do not use a lot of product or your hair will be weighed down. I rub the silk all over my hands and then spread it throughout my hair.
      3. I have a salon quality Chi rocket blow dryer with comb attachment and Croc 1 inch flat iron at 410-430F. I use the chase method with flat ironing (separate my hair into tiny sections and do one pass with a fine tooth comb).

    As a stylist blow dry it well but once it’s dry STOP blow drying it. Continuously drying hair once it’s dry is damaging. Once it’s dry, stop drying and then flat iron applying a THERMAL heat protectant to each section. A leave in applied before blow drying that claims it’s a heat protector is ok for blow drying but not enough protection for the flat iron. You need to use a thermal heat protectant at that point.

    • @hereforit2347
      @hereforit2347 Před 2 měsíci +4

      I use a thermal heat protectant *before* blow drying and I flat iron without adding any products in between.
      I never use a leave-in conditioner, serum, oil sheen spray, edge control or any other product at any point during the process.
      I’ll wait four or five days after flat ironing to add a light serum to my ends and re-apply it every four or five days thereafter until I wash out my silk press.
      Is that okay or do you think I need to add something else?
      I’ve taught myself to create very straight, long-lasting silk presses without using excessive heat or suffering heat damage.
      I am not a “straight natural” and my hair is not “heat trained”. I can go years between presses and still get bone straight results because of my technique. 🥰

      I'll be honest its not that silly. I go to a professional ans my hair is thick think as is my daughter's. Our beautician only uses spray heat protection she doest blow dry on the highest ans strongest heat but with a comb attachment, after she uses a hot comb around thr parameter of the head and all over my daughter's head then she goes in with one pass on thr flat iron. My daughter be feeling her self cause the slight breath gone have her her flowing...every head turn you think she was born with 1A afterwards 😅 Point is ppl need to find a heat protection in spray form only

    • @misstweed1915
      @misstweed1915 Před 8 měsíci +5

      @@DivaDen no I’m not saying it’s silly but more steps when doing it yourself for thicker hair. That’s my experience anyway. mine and my daughters hair is very thick as well meaning high density and also low porosity. My other daughter’s hair has a tighter curl pattern but not as much density and higher porosity. So it’s easier to wash and quicker to straighten. For myself and daughter it takes longer to wash because it takes longer for water to saturate, and has to be washed and rinsed throuroughly in sections to ensure we get all of our hair and it is properly cleaned which is important in a silk press. Also I only do one pass but the sections are waaay smaller for us. And when doing it myself I can’t do it in the bathroom and often flatiron in front of a fan to avoid humidity and my scalp perspiring which will revert my hair back before I am finished. My stylist taught me this when I was wondering why my silk presses seemed straight while doing it but ended up a bit puffy sometimes. Especially the humidity part and making sure I’m in a cool well ventilated area while doing my own hair.

We have done the sew ins, the clip ins and the fancy extensions with the leave out. None of this is new. Heat thins out and eventually breaks hair off. Heat protectants will not protect the hair forever. I'm not saying not to do this. You can do it but you cant do it regularly.

      A lot of armchair cosmetologist in this comment section... your hair broke off because you and the lot didn't take care of your hair... didn't wrap it every night, wash it enough, deep condition it, SEE A PROFESSIONAL etc. It was always about the style... never let water touch your hair, and used copious amounts of gel, grease, and Jerry curl juice/Pink lotion/S Curl/Relaxer/Box Dyes. Not even getting into styling tools... in your day, it was constant hair manipulation, and no moisture or heat protectant, then you wonder why yalls hair was thinning and breaking off with all that manipulation and tugging on the roots, overly long protective styles that led to more damage, and no breaks between, but ya let's blame the heat, not poor hair maintenance. People who had and still have nice hair, from those days, didn't do what the majority was doing they usually sought a professional, or knew/was one, and have a much better understanding of how to care for natural hair than the trendy girls who don't do their research. A skill is valuable for a reason. I recommend getting a hairstylist to help you understand your own hair otherwise it's going to always be damaged no matter what you do to it. Find a good one, that's you're part of the job.
      Pro tip: if you always have the same results as far as damage, breakage, and lack of growth, by process of elimination you are the issue, if it matters change, otherwise why complain? Accept what you chose for yourself.

    I would say get rid of that Denman brush at the first blow dry. And replace with a brush that has a ceramic base. It will smooth out the hair much faster because the ceramic base will heat up and act like a flat iron as you are blow drying. And keep the dryer pointing down. Less frizz. Your hair will be straighter and then when you blow dry with the attachment on the second blow dry, it will be so much smoother.

    The one thing for me that makes all the difference in the world is to use a comb as you pass the flat iron over your hair but the with the comb actually under the flat iron not on top. This technique makes every section perfectly smooth. Imagine ironing a shirt and you don't spread it out out over the ironing board instead all wrinkled up. Once you're done, there will be pressed wrinkles all over it. Invest a few extra bucks on a heat resistant comb so your regular comb doesn't melt.

    She has like 4A hair. Getting 4C hair as straight as hers is going to be a lot more difficult and it won’t look the same. Everyone can’t do the same things w their hair. Regardless of how she prepped her hair, the silk press would likely come out straight and bouncy because of her natural hair texture.

For reference I've been told by many that my hair is two different ethnicity when it's wet and when it's dry. I do have Indian and black DNA but I look all white. Maybe that explains why I was told all of my life that hair is the same. I have to agree with this lady. Blow dry your hair with a heat serum as well it prevents stiffness and dryness and static electricity. I use a wide tooth comb. Then use a high quality shine serum and heat serum combination to press your hair. Don't use too much or one that's too heavy. Your hair won't move if you use the wrong serum or too much. For me the secret has been ALL in the serum! Pravana Silk Degrees is by far the best I've ever used. It detangles, protects from heat, and gives a shine that won't quit. It's not too heavy. It works for everything. After shampoo it works to detangle and protect during blow drying. Then apply again for the silk press. The name explains it. Silk+degrees+shine+serum. My stylist also mixed it in with my hair color to protect my hair from the chemicals. This stuff is amazing! It smells great too. It's also a Brillo reconstructor. Half my hair came out once during a relaxer left on too long and this stuff repaired my hair so well that I was getting compliments and others wanted their hair like mine after the damage if that says how good this stuff is. Since both hair is similar and my hair is different than most "white" hair I wanted to share it with everyone.

      As someone with curly hair it is not easier to maintain it and wear it natural. You have to use way more product and often you have to let your hair partially air dry so it doesn't look obnoxious. And that's not so easy to do in cooler climates. Then it just ends up in a ponytail. A silk press is a lot more convenient and as long as you don't use chemicals and have a good Heat protectant, all is good

    Looks lovely but I do wish ppl wouldn’t do the flicker thing with the comb…you can already see how good the press was, the movement in the hair and how it’s sitting.

    Remember y’all this is what works FOR HER!!
    While some of the steps are absolutely necessary for a successful “silk press”, products as well as technique matter…
    I “silk press” my hair once a year & get it bone straight & silky… but I also do a couple of things differently than her.. I blow dry with the concentration nozzle & a use brush, but not a comb attachment.. I also use a serum after drying my hair but I blow dry it once more with cool air to flatten the cuticle & cool the hair before I flat iron…
    DO WHAT WORKS FOR YOU!!!

    Finally someone with my exact hair and hair texture. I also have the same exact hair color. This helps me so much.I have such a hard time finding other black biracial people with my hair type. I feel like the flat irons I have at home never get hot enough? Maybe I need a new flat iron. I use a blow dryer brush most of the time and just let it be fluffy idc. My hair is never stiff I don’t even know how other people get their hair stiff. My hair is always loose and poofy.
    Honestly I think your hair texture matters for the stiffness because I notice when I see other women get their hair straightened with a a flat iron it just gets stiff. Then I can get my hair straightened with a flat iron the same way and it’s loose and moves. I don’t know if telling other women it’s just the way they are doing it is going to help because our hair type is not that common. Like I said I had trouble finding anyone who had my exact hair type and texture until this video. I’ve searched everywhere.

    It’s best to blow it straight while it’s wet. The water will act as a protectant, help the stretch and add shine . Then u go in with your iron guard before flat ironing. I personally like to spray each flat ironed section once on my clients hair mKing sure to come it through before passing the iron on my strands

    I would also like to mention that the straightener and blow dryer you have are great quality, I just invested in a babyliss combo straightener and curler and I get much better results than with any other straightener. I also do the same steps you do as this is how my stylist got my hair the straightest I have ever seen it.

    Nice job! Also, using a nozzle attachment can help to get the hair smoother and gives you overall more control before flat ironing. They used to call it a “naked” blow dryer without the nozzle.

    Hair twins! My routine is round brush instead of comb attachment. That’s key for straight roots as the round brush gives you good tension so when I go in with the flat iron it’s just to touch up any areas that may not be as straight as I’d like them to be

  • @septemberterry6469
    @septemberterry6469 Před 6 měsíci

    She is so right, I this with my hair also, but I always deep condition too the longer, the better. And then I section it off into 2 pony tails either braided or twisted, let air dry over night and I also apply a dime size amount of serum over the hair and braids. What this does is stretches the hair and allows it to dry as straight and flat as possible tied down. Those edges will be straight with a little edge control front and back but not on the longer hair just around the hairline. Next day I blow it out and bc it dryed stretched over night it’s a lot straight er and easier to blow out and then you can stop here bc I noticed if I blow it out one day and put it up and then silk press the next day, Omg the body and bounce is crazy. But you can do the blow out and flat iron the same day. After blow drying just give your hair and scalp time to cool down before going in with the flat iron. And of course apply heat protectant before you start blow drying. Also I use a leave in conditioner with Keratin to strengthen and moisturize over night. U should wake up with extremely soft hair and you know your silk press is going to be good and last. My hair is 24 inches and thick so I definitely have to follow step by step to get it bone straight and I use a flat iron on steamer that helps to lock in moisture and give straighter hair. When that steam button is not on I notice the difference immediately at how straight it’s not getting in. Also focus on the roots. The more body your hair will have if those roots are straight.

  • @Momoleft911

    What works for me is round brush on wet hair with heat protectant and a dime of leave conditioner, because its wet wet it’s more malleable and is able to dry pin straight with the blow dryer also the tension of the round brush. Once I’m down with blow drying I go in with the flat iron once to seal it in
