It is what naturally happens when you "review" a ship after 5-10 games. As a rule I don't take a CC's reviews seriously if they have less than 50 games in a ship.
I am not a DD main in the slightest so forgive my ignorance but if you have 12 13.5 km torps that do over 16k damage at a minimum and go 72 km/h and that reload in 2 minutes, all before you even build for it, how is this boat necessarily a close range fighter? It outperforms Shima in torp dpm AND range! Yeah it's got decent guns, it is after all a hybrid, but the focus is more on the torps than the guns I think. And it's not about stealth either, 6km detection is fine considering the range of the torps and the ballistics of the guns. What am I missing here?
Agree. You should play it more like a torp boat.

@@FooChuanJing He said this ship is designed for close ranges...but than you see it has 13.5km torps. Yeah your demage will be lower than on short range with torps but still you can use them.
@@FooChuanJing No. If the meta is not built for this, how is it built for most of the other torp boats? Unless he's saying the meta does not accommodate any torp boats anymore, but I don't think that.
Definitely a hybrid, the thing is you're not supposed to get the most alpha damage out of the torpedos at all times, and building into 6km stealth is detrimental to the firepower. It takes a high skill ceiling to get the most out of a hybrid since they aren't particularly special at any one thing, and around average at most other.
If you want to play a dedicated torpedoboat then play a torpedoboat. If you want to play a dedicated gunboat then same thing, play a gunboat.

PQ, you do the best job editing these ship reviews of any CC I've seen and it's not even close. Your clips efficiently highlight a ship's strengths and weaknesses within the context of each battle, which makes it both informative and entertaining. Well done!
RE: the new French line - I kinda think you're doing it a disservice by trying to decide if it's a gun or torp build. Isn't it just a hybrid? Great torp dpm and I just watched you cheeky clap a Tashkent in the Orage video for 3.7k. Looks like it's got a solid spotting advantage on any DD that can smash it. Gearing/Daring/Halland/Hayate/Zs seem to be a problem because it will struggle to disengage so... you've got to pick your engagements carefully just like every other hybrid DD. The wide range of viable strategic options on hybrids make them tough to evaluate, but I have a feeling this thing would be OP with better speed. Here's to hoping WG decides a couple knots won't hurt!

I see this line as torpboats with good guns. Not gunboats with long range torps.
just think of it as a French hybrid/dual purpose DD. A Jack of all trades. It has usable guns and usable torps that are both applicable in most situations. This isn't from gameplay but, I think you trying to shoehorn it into a particular role is giving you grief and overshadowing an honest review of the ship/line.
Usable guns isn’t about this DD. Look how inaccurate they are. Torps? Dunno. Very short. For assumed tactics of skirmishing from behind the islands not that fast and has no crawling smokes. I have Le Hardi but can’t get how to play it.
Hi, I'd like to see you try the Sims T7 American dd. It was available through the Wows closed Beta but I think its available through other means as well? That was the first ship I've ever played so I'd love to see you give it a go :)

There seems to be a simple way to reduce the campiness in random: reducing the size of both teams. Also makes matchmaking quicker too
Small random battles feel like ranked and that is not good imo
@@Caleb-zu1pk ranked is twice as fun as randoms and it's not even close
They have done that for "off peak" times. 9v9 is pretty common now, even 6v6 is happening. Actually had a 3v3 recently.
I don't have the tier 10 yet, but I've played a little of the 5 to 8. I think they're trying for a "balanced" DD. Which would make sense since the game is lacking them.

I don't like the fact that at range the torps don't the same damage as closer up. After all, a warhead, is a warhead.

Potato Quality's opinion of a new ship entirely depends on how well he happens to do with it that day, which in this meta is reliant on luck of the draw. That is to say, his opinion given the binary nature of ship reviews is a coin flip. I've noticed that you gotta wait a couple of years for PQ to revisit a ship half a dozen times before you finally get some of that nuanced 'in that situaion it shines, in that type of game it doesn't, if your playstyle is X then it might not be for you' ..etc coverage, if at all.

I think the torp damage being highest at "close" range is because of these ships "weakness". Because it is at risk of being caught in close range, unlike jaegers that much better chance of staying hidden, Jaeger torps are weak and may not kill target at close range yet has better chance of going silent, cassard torps are super strong to give a higher chance of going silent because damage potential of torps are enough the just 2 torps would kill most Cruisers, just 1 would kill all DD's.

Better have the mid tier miserable than the higher one. Still, gotta ask: which is best as a dd for cap contesting and dd hunting between the Kleber and the Z-52?
Cap contesting goes straight to z52 ..kleber can hunt dds pretty well
You play this ship as a DEDICATE TORPBOAT!! You avoid contact, even with good guns!! You don charge in, you don't seek for the close-range combat situation, just let them come to you naturally! Your guns is good, but it was a self-defense mechanism, they good because you don't have smoke to cover then sneak away when you get spotted, so it's good to make up for that!!! You bring a Torp boat out and seek for gun fight, THAT'S WHY YOU FEEL IT BAD!!
I will build this ship full gun boat with torpedo support, not worried about CV in the future because the rework is here, this dd now is a little hard to play but after the CV rework this thing is going to be broken, with the 2 turrets in the back is more than a hit and run play style, kitting away, and those torps ..... in my modest opinion.
I'm waiting for replays with 300-400k damage on this boat in the first days.

You're right. Test ships don't earn achievements or count towards your stats.
Feels like your disconnect is insisting if this is a torp line or gun line when the intent is that it is a hybrid line.
This will surely become one of the most hated ships in coop, alongside the Marceau, Kleber and Yolo Emilio

This ship line seem like "high risk, low reward". I predict a catastrophic overall winrate after a couple of updates because the average player will just die and the good player will struggle a lot to get good results out of them
hmm, i guess we should prefer new ships that arent just like the ones already in the game, they offer players a different experience/challenge. So maybe WG did something good for a change, lol.

This should not be anyone's first tier 10. Destroyers ,period, should not be anyone's tier 10. Usually people doing that will consistently be shit at this game at high tiers.

Why though? It's litteraly one of the most "real" line we've had for a long time with an actualy Historical T10.
It has a much better place in this game than bullshit like German CVs or Soviet BBs which are mostly pure fiction.

I am not excited at all about these ships. As you said there are better ships for today's meta. At the 10-minute mark I have gone through 4 adverts and its getting annoying, other channels don't have this many adverts.

Man what is wrong with you in this vid? It´s not supposed to be a friggin GUNboat... So stop trying to put it into that pocket, build it for torps and be done with it. If you are struggling it´s probably more on you as a torp boat DD then the DD itself. You don´t have to get too close either to torp with it... Idk why you are so confused with this DD. Like you said, there is Kleb and Marceau. Now you have a proper torp DD line but with OK guns so take it what it´s for and be happy!
There are two types of DDs that work. Asashio/Shimikaze for sneaky torp hits. Or, the annoying pew pew pew kind such as sherman or mogador. all others are just a waste of time
Nah, that's like saying the Daring or Lightning or the British hybrid dd line are just a waste of time when they just plain aren't. It takes a high skill ceiling to get the best out of a hybrid that is average at about everything and not specialized at any one thing. The Lightning is already broken with 5.5km stealth and a full hybrid build into torpboat/gunboat/utilitydd/dd hunter/rpf it's like a swiss army knife, it does everything and does well in tier10 mm and as it gets into tier6 mm it makes it one of the most broken warships in the game. This French hybrid dd line isn't quite the smoke/farm/get out of trouble line that the British hybrid dd line is, it's more like the other French dd line of run and gun and speed is your life. I think the high alpha torps are situational, and building into full stealth is detrimental to the firepower.
I honestly think playing style makes the difference. Maybe you’re the guy who likes fast barrel speed fast ship with usable toros. Or maybe u like the floaty shells so u can shoot over islands. Maybe u don’t like to contest caps and don’t need conceal as much. Aka. Go towards cap get spotted and kite. For example. My fav bb is the Maine. But there is very little overmatch and the reload is a bit slower. Not great secondaries either.
@@jackconrad2667 thing is this French dd line has I think better standard range on the guns and for sure flatter arcs, there are still ways to contest and approach caps without a full conceal build and the torps have range it's just they have more alpha at closer ranges, I think they're more situational without a full conceal build. Rangier hybrid dd line as opposed to the British hybrid dd line which has more utility to play closer with smoke and personal hydro and then there's the shorter range torps.
