@@aproudbaguette3605 pretty good. Today she has black hole armour that makes her impossible to citadel close/mid range, she is fast and has speed boost, and 12 very punchy 15' guns.
Before the nerfs the main battery guns were substantially more accurate AND secondaries had much better range, DPM and accuracy, getting to about FDG levels with a full secondary build (the 4 points manual secondary captain skill and IFHE hadn't been nerfed yet), plus Alsace used to have very strong AA which was great against pre-rework CVs.
If you want to try that "old Alsace" feeling you should play secondary build Bourgogne, which is in fact a T10 pre-nerfed Alsace with reload booster, unsurprisingly one of the best BBs in the game

I'd like to see how people feel about it after the "Henry Hussle" ability was removed. I still think they slapped it too hard with the nerf bat. But being almost battlecruiser size, and being able to shimmy back and forth at high speed was rather stupid.
They really just needed to make it deaccelerate slower, not gut it completely.

Retired IT guy, PCs since 1983. If you do not have an identifiable problem that a BIOS patch will address, just don't. I am OCD about my boxes in every other way, but I have learned to read patch notes, and unless there is something that specifically addresses my configuration and presents a real fix or a substantial performance boost, I have learned (at too high a cost, too many times) to just let it pass. On customer hardware, I would only spec motherboards that supported dual bios or other "break glass in emergency" measures. In short, if you have no problems, why spin the roulette wheel?
Because new agesa that comes with the BIOS will usually let you run better memory timings, will improve power management often and most importantly, patch BIOS level security vulnerabilities. We had a spate last year that allowed remote loading of rootkits. Mostly because Asus and gigabyte wanted their bloatware auto-installable via BIOS - still took a BIOS patch to close the backdoor that virtually all motherboard by them had.
@@lucidnonsense942 And why would you run better memory timings? It's mostly noticeable only in benchmarks. RL performance is relatively the same.
Agree with OP here. If there ain't a security problem, don't touch it. I think I have never updated the BIOS of my motherboard. I prefer a stable and efficient system over a maxed out energy guzzler diva.

@@TheKobiDror PQ mentioned he was running AMD. Timings and speed on RAM is way more important on the AMD platform due to Infinity Fabric than it is on Intel. Running 5000+ vs stock 3400ish can make a big difference on AMD where its more negligible real world for Intel.
Agreed. I manage servers and consider any BIOS update as high risk as an operating system update, but with lower reward because there aren't many BIOS security fixes.
As you say, update BIOS to solve a problem, because otherwise you're just taking risks without an expected reward.

I love this ship. Great farmer and gunboats against DDs. It's AA is also fierce.
Only downside is that cruisers aren't afraid to push you due to lack of torps, which forces you to be a 2nd line DD.
Bit, playing to its strengths, its a very fun ship.
You really only need to play 2nd line DD if they have radar cruiser or if they have something with higher DPM and lower conceal. Like uptiered against a F Sherman etc.
Playing tight spaces can also be really bad, but I have def gone in and contested caps pretty well on my own.
No submarines and no CVs, and its a FUN GAME!? No way.... Who could have guessed that one!?

Ohh, we definitely need a Benham game or 3. IMO the best torp boat dd in the game, and I don't use many torp boat DD's.

Also I've noticed as a harugumo/kitakaze player that DD shells fall short SO MUCH more than BB shells it seems. It's always pulling them down even when it feels like you are aiming significantly above the ship.

Kansas is mid to awful, but Minnesota and Vermont are gnarly
Kansas is pretty bad imo and doesn’t possess the main strengths of the line like the other two
With turret speed instead of consumables reload same captain build can be shared with Błyskawica and Gdańsk. Also works as very agressive farming build on Smaland and Ragnar. So one 21pt captain can serve one tech-tree and four premiums in European line.
Ragnar requires superintendent cause you only get 2 of each consumable, if you don't they get used to quick. I still share Swiriski between Gdansk, Blys and Ragnar though, however If I was running a specific Gdansk build it would look different from Ragnar build. Don't have Smaland unfortunetly and probably will never have the pleasure to own it. Agree with turret speed though, almost must on Gdansk.
@@nathanwinters9272 I know. That is why I wrote „very aggressive”. Because in this build you trade survivability for dpm.
A new BIOS update will often reset the TPM. You will often need to clear the encryption keys or windows won't boot. It's caught me out - turns out on my mobo I needed to press F for the boot to continue and new keys to be ingested. I literally pulling parts trying to figure out what went wrong, till some hero on Reddit reminded me.
PS. The TPM keys, not the disc encryption keys, if your are using them, whatever you do, don't wipe those lol.

I have separate builds for my Groningen and Friesland. Swirski lends to a nasty AA/consumable escort playstyle for Friesland, while de Ruyter lends to a gunboat playstyle that can more easily set fires. Ultimately because of Swirski I think Friesland does it’s job better since Groningen can only take advantage of one of de Ruyter’s enhanced skills and there isn’t a unique commander for the Netherlands tree yet.
Raw fun - loved it.
How would you use the Kagero? I make use of the high concealment (5.4km) so I can get really near targets but in some games I strugle in making high damage with torps due to the ship´s low HP once I (unluckily) get detected.
how to do free lock while you'r shoting ? the turret seems locked at the target , how ?

Would the t7 Błyskawica (cheap coal DD) play basically the same as the Gronny/Friesland?

Friesland on console is the exact same. Except that it gets a speed boost and a tier lower, at tier 7 (which is tier 8 on pc)

the Tromp has torps and you can make use of Airstrikes. This will give you more options I think. Unfortunately, it doesn't get the smoke or Hydro..

Your sentiment is the sentiment most people have when playing randoms. Really, there is no reason to ever play a random on this game. Choose a game mode that doesn't allow CVs/subs. Things they would have to fix to make randoms even playable: 1.) No up-down tiering, 2.) Balanced number of div players on each side (no more 4v9). 3.) Skills based matchmaking, based on lifetime w/l. 4.) A Checkbox when queueing to allow no CVs or subs in your queue. That's it, change those things and randoms would be a mode worth playing. Most of the playerbase basically will never play randoms.

A "Play next" button that switches control of your ship to a bot could work if you didn't get any rewards from the battle.
I got the groningen for free xp back when that was a thing. Was actually aiming for the Agir but then I got the Agir in a santa container so I spent the free xp on the Groningen instead. Actually quite happy I spent the xp on it rather than Agir. I still like Agir but Groningen is just fantastic whenever the matchmaking is not being evil. Gunboat DDs are just fun.
I did buy it but I can't fulfill DD roles...I very much like to play as support for the team even if the XP is earn is not much...spotting,annoying enemy ships,distracting them etc
@@MartialEmperor6344 Well gunboat DDs aren't for everyone. Some prefer torpedo DDs or DDs that are more of a mix. Or DDs with more utility in other ways.

@@MartialEmperor6344 Ah okay. Yeah trops are nice to have. Not usually a problem for me with the Groningen but on gunboats with slightly slower reload it's nice to have torps. At least for me.
T9 gunboat without torps is rough most of the time.
I try to play agresssively whenever possible, with amazing AA and hydro the Groningen can do a lot of work, it just murders DDs - if there isn't too radar around. And that's a big if.
lol D6 code on boot or D3. that's one thing that I'm thankful for having stayed with my b550 aorus master just recently switched to am5 recently cuz like you i said hey why not it's been a year i'm sure bugs have been .... yeah ok. took me all day to post and successfully boot up. i chased my tail cuz my gpu being a 3090 kingpin is still gen 4 but nowhere does the gen 5 x16 slot state anywhere that when you plug in a gen4 in the slot it runs x8 which is x16 in gen 4. so i chased that tail until i read somewhere pcie5 8x4 = pcie4 16x4. anyways lol I love this ship except for its lack of AA i love it lol.(groningen has no AA) i used to stick on my clan members and just distance enough to arc over their bow and lob shells . ooh those days haha.. anyways hope you got the bios figured out

Would be interesting to see Tone - one of the first two hybrid ships, it really hasn't been talked about much since its release.
Its crazy how you can have 5-7 people in a match virtually do nothing to help you team. Usually terrible positioning and they get farmed and killed within a few minutes.
Not gonna lie -- I'll be undocking my Gronigen after I watch this video in full.

Take note. Unless you have a specific problem that updating your bios can solve, dont update it. If you do, dont do it during any storm and ideally have it powered off of a battery backup because if that bios update fails, the motherboard is likely done unless you have one of those fancy gigabyte dualbios boards, those saved me numerous times when i didnt know what i was doing.

Do you have Alabama? Also commander should be with only 8 skill points. It's really hard to do this battleship, slow shooting is just sad.
Like to see the Florida, I have some doubloons and a coupon and was thinking about getting it.
Don't, it's a depressing ship to play. T5 guns (worse actually, at least in terms of alpha) on a NC (huge, high citadel) with 26mm plating (that everyone overmatches). That's just as fun as it sounds. Just get the Duke of York for 101k coal, it's the better ship except for AA of course.

Here's an idea. Play like a normal player would when getting a new ship or a ship they haven't had for a few weeks, and don't want to use all there commander points to make a 21pt. captain. Use a capt with the average of 10pts like I'm assuming a lot of players have or maybe even less. Like a 6pt capt. to see the difference of gameplay between the top commander and average commander. Too many vids of YT contributors using the top capt's that the average player does not have.
i wouldn't have known the constellation has hydro... poor asashio, who checks BBs for consumables :/

It took PQ till almost the twelve minute mark to play that potato boat the right way. You have to farm damage from concealment (smoke or islands) and go nowhere near a cap the entire game. Towards the end of the game you have to bitch in chat that your team sucks because they are down 300 points. That's how you potato boat on the NA server at least. :S
the Omono lived so long as a tier 7 cruises made of paper
because he shoot maybe 4 times the entire game, I see this often with this playerbase, they refuse to left click, playing just boat simulator

Wow I get really good damage out of the Gron. 30k would be a bad game for me. I would say 50-60k. 90-100k+ games are doable with smart play and depending what is in game for ships.

the lack of Torps make these DD very vulnerable to a push from BB/Cruiser. Sure, if you have your safespot to farm from its ok. But imho the french ones are wayyy better if you wanna play a Gunboat. Btw how tf did you spot Jäger soo many times xD
It's very different though, the French DDs are fast but have no smoke and terrible concealment, this has smoke and "just" bad concealment.
It's more of a true DD, for better or worse. With tons of 12km radar often for worse. Although it has amazing AA, shooting down scores of even T11 planes is no issue, one of the few DDs that doesn't struggle against carriers.
@@BL-yj2wp you forgot saturation on the French, hence the no smoke isnt that bad. I mean, when Friesland came out it was very strong and annoying. Until people realised they cant do anything running them down,

Friesland has amazing AA. Of all the things to complain about this ship, airplanes are pretty far down the list.
@@j_taylor Its not the planes themselves, the CV mechanics in general that ruin the fun, mainly the spotting aspect of the planes and their hide in the back and be safe among other things.
