      @@SlushysSecretHonestly, I miss Dash and Dot, the OG mascots of PBS Kids, as they brought lots of memories with their system cues and program breaks promoting the shows. Nowadays, we have a blue circle saying "PBS Kids" in every system cue and program break lol.

    I would like to mention that before the PBS Kids 24/7 channel was relaunched on January 16th, 2017, many PBS stations like WFWA 39 Fort Wayne and KLCS 58 in Los Angeles had began offering sub channels around the national TV digital transition of 2009 that required all TV stations to convert from analog to digital free over-the-air broadcast television. One of the benefits of digital tv is the ability to offer sub-channel networks, which are extra channels that are broadcast on your local channels. For example, KYW CBS Philadelphia broadcasts CBS on their main channel 3.1 in HD, but they do also broadcast StartTV, and Dabl in SD. Since TV stations could offer sub channels with digital TV, TV stations could now broadcast multiple programs at once. Many PBS stations got to work creating new channels for viewers. WFWA 39 offered an Encore Channel for those who miss a show, that would allow the viewer to watch it the next day. A few PBS stations also had rights to many other kids programs, so they decided to launch a 24-hour channel dedicated to PBS Kids programming as a sub-channel on their free over-the-air digital broadcast signal in 2009. 7 years later and PBS decided to make it official, and they relaunched the channel in 2017.

    Thanks for covering this topic. I grew up with PBS Kids A LOT. And those old Dash and Dot bumpers take me back to the good old days of my childhood. I grew up with the mid to late 2000s and 2010s timeline for PBS Kids since I was born in 2005. Shows I would watch include Curious George, The Cat In The Hat, Super Why, Sid the Science Kid, Dinosaur Train, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Sesame Street, Thomas and Friends, Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, Arthur, and Odd Squad. But, there is one thing in particular that really sticks out as a huge part of my childhood! PBS Kids Play! Remember that? That cool thing where you could decorate your own playhouse?! That was so cool! Too bad it got shut down due to the rebrand. I'd love for them to revive it. So many other cool things too, like Dash's Dance Party, and Dot reading fan art? Do you remember all this stuff?

    • @mooseman3027
      @mooseman3027 Před 12 dny +1

      Also, thanks for roasting the new PBS Kids logo. Now, we don't have any memories of Dash at all.

      @VideoEssayPresents  Před 11 dny

      I think I remember PBS Kids Play! But I specifically remember the sponsor for Dash's Dance Party and the card game sponsor during the preschool interstitials. Man, PBS Kids during those days brings back so many memories. I remember the preschool interstitials, games, the program breaks, the Ready To Learn promo segments where the characters from the PBS Kids shows made parodies of popular shows and movies as sponsors for the Ready To Learn grant, and the PBS Kids GO! Show us what you've got! live-action promo segments where the kids show their talents and hobbies to enforce the purpose of talent and career aspirations.
      That era is now gone as now we have a new logo and a new generation of viewers who will never remember how this channel used to be back in the day. 😢

    Subscribed! PBS Kids was a HUGE part of my childhood, even rivaling Nick Jr and Noggin [which is saying a lot as I adored the shows and mascots of those networks, especially Nick Jr's Face], and I'm glad they're still going strong, at least for now. My favorite PBS Kids shows are Between The Lions [lions are my favorite big cat, so I may be biased], Bob The Builder [the original series still holds up, and I remember when I was little, every time we'd go to Chuck E Cheese I HAD to go on the Bob The Builder ride], Dragon Tales [one of the reasons I love dragons], Sesame Street [everything pre-2010s], Reading Rainbow, Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, and anything by the Kratt Brothers. And I can't forget about Thomas The Tank Engine, the reason I love trains! Funny how PBS Kids had a lot of British cartoons. Speaking of, will you cover the history of Cosgrove Hall one day? They were responsible for Noddy's Toyland Adventures, Engie Benjy, Danger Mouse, and tons of classic British cartoons, until ITV closed them down for being "not profitable". A history of Will Vinton Studios would also be good too, as they also created a lot of iconic characters, only to be bought out by Phil and Travis Knight, who fired Will from HIS OWN STUDIO and turned the company into Laika. The documentary Claydream goes into more detail on Will Vinton's story.

    As much as I have fond nostalgic memories of Dash and Dot [and I wish they were kept, the modern Dot and PBS mascots aren't as interesting], I really wish they kept the P-Pals. They make the most sense as PBS Kids mascots given they actually look like the PBS logo. And they all had different personalities and designs. Pernell, the main P-Pal, was voiced by LeVar Burton, host of Reading Rainbow.

    Actually, The Big Comfy Couch was still airing on PBS Kids in my area around 2005. I remember someone in my family telling me it only aired on Sundays. An interesting thing about PBS is that different states air different shows.

    I Really Liked Your Video! Though There Are Some Fairly Major Issues. First, You Forgot The 2008-2013 And 2013-2022 Era. The 2008-2013 Rerelease Wasn't Major, Many People Forget About This Era, But The 2013 Rerelease Was Very Major, Mainly For Worse. And You Forgot PBS Kids Go, Just Stating PBS Kids Go As The Older Shows, And You Didn't Mention Any 2012- Shows, Speaking More About The Cable Service, I Still Love This Video, Though I Would Reccomend You Will Do More Research On Other Topics.

      @@ConNinGame Hi! Thank you for mentioning these things. However, this video was just a brief and straightforward description of PBS Kids exclusively. With your mention of PBS Kids Go, I could do a separate video explaining that. With the eras you mentioned, I couldn't explain those into depth as I wanted to keep the video straightforward and simple and not go off topic, even though the eras PBS Kids went through are a component of what made the brand as we know of today. Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts and suggestions!

    I’m sorry but Sid was just a big case of missed potential. The potential for a great science program WAS There, it had a great concept, all the peices were coming together for something special, but it fumbled on its face with its weird style of animation and poor casting choices which make the characters come off as annoying. Never liked it from the gecko
