  • Cleaning ground connections and I decided it was a good idea to film the locations of these grounds. Used 2 1997 GMC Safaris for this video, similar on Chevy Astro and later model years could have the grounds in different locations. Ground locations on Astro and Safari van.

    1999 Chevy Astro ground that causes battery light on dash to light is on the passenger side front next to the water bottles. When ground is open, the battery dash light comes on and looks like a belt , alternator , battery problem. Clean and secure that ground.

    • @OldSchoolNoe

      For the 1997, Blower Motor is grounded at G100

      The RH stop lamp and RH turn signal lamp are also grounded at G401.

    Question; is there a fuse for the automatic locks? When I press the fob to lock the doors the front door lock wont loc or unlock. rear and side door does. At first it was just the passenger side now it's the drivers side.

    • @OldSchoolNoe
      @OldSchoolNoe  Před rokem

      Fuse 13 in the driver's footwell area feeds the driver and passenger door locks switches. There's a circuit breaker in the same area that feeds the door lock relay and the door lock control module. G200 is the ground for these components.
      For the 1997, it looks like the door lock control module directly controls the liftgate lock, and the door lock relay controls the side door lock. Take a look at your fuse #13. If the fuse is good, then maybe the individual door lock motors need replacement. You would need to confirm that the lock motor is getting power and ground before calling it defective and replacing it. What year is you van? I know that wiring can change with the "newer" models.

    Great video! My 2000 Astrovan won’t start after a rainfall. It’ll crank but not turn over until a few dry days later. I’m wondering if it’s a ground cable. The windshield also leaks now. Do you have any suggestions for which ground cables may be causing the issue?

    • @OldSchoolNoe
      @OldSchoolNoe  Před 7 měsíci

      1. Battery Health. Voltage above 12.6V and clean negative/positive terminal
      (Also check battery health during rainfall)
      Use a battery tester to rule out a bad battery.
      2. Check G103 . Visual inspection might not be good enough, could look good but have corrosion in between block and terminal. Might need to unbolt and clean.
      3. Same deal with the connections at the starter solenoid.
      4. G104
      5. G102 & G103

      Looked up a Wiring diagram for the radio, the radio gets its ground at G200, not seeing info on power window grounds, they're not labeled, maybe they are grounded to the frame, I do see Power Door Locks also get ground from G200.

    • @OldSchoolNoe
      @OldSchoolNoe  Před rokem

      The parking brake light comes on when the parking brake is applied, or by the combination valve switch.
      The actual parking brake switch is on the parking brake lever assembly. You need to start diagnosing. Maybe one of those 2 switches has shorted, maybe the parking brake assembly is bad and not "contacting" the parking brake switch.

    What ground is for the ECU or the Fuel injector harness?

    • @OldSchoolNoe
      @OldSchoolNoe  Před rokem +1

      For the '97, the Injector harness receives power from the "ECM 1" fuse located under the hood. The VCM provides ground for the injector harness. Pins 3, 15, 16, 32, 31(C2), and 5(C1).
      Funny thing is I do not see the "ECU" grounded on any of the diagrams.
