I watched it last night. This was my life when my son was that age. My sobbed all night. Powerful movie.
Absolutely love what Hugh Jackman shared about being vulnerable and transparent with his kids, and I feel like that didn’t get picked up or acknowledged by Gail.

This movie hit very close as a father. It was almost identical to what happened with my middle child except my child didn't attempt it a second time... however myself and her mother didn't leave her alone for the first month.
This movie however showed what might have happened to my own child and I know it would've broken my family if it did.
Oh wow, what a difficult thing to go through, so sorry. SO glad it didn't end up the same way. The movie's end is just heartbreaking, so sad to think some people do go through this piercing pain and loss.

Very tough movie to watch because it hits home for me in the sense of living with depression and struggling with suicidal thoughts.
I found the movie necessary in addressing the epidemic of mental illness, depression, suicide and the breakup of family.
I sympathize with the kid in the movie and thought the acting was first rate and Hugh Jackman’s character and his acting portrayal was spot on!
I cried and it hit me hard but I’m glad I saw it.
I feel the writing and directing was tremendous and the movie is necessary given the dynamics in our society and the epidemic of mental illness, depression, breakdown in family and suicide.

I’m a single dad and I concur. I have a policy of never lying to my son and it’s actually quite simple and liberating.
I explain things best I can, in a way that he can understand. I tell him when I know, when I don’t know, or if I’m making an educated guess. I admit my mistakes and apologize when I lose my temper. I tell him that grown-ups aren’t perfect either.
Of course, there are age-appropriate ways to communicate and being honest doesn’t mean you say everything. But I’ve never felt the need to lie or pretend. Grown-ups often build up tricky conversations to be so much worse than they really are, but if you get ahead of things, kids just accept it, move on, and ask if they can watch Paw Patrol.
-“Is so-and-so in heaven?” Some people believe that. I don’t. Their bodies stopped working and they’re not coming back. They’re still here with us in our memories, photos, conversations, and being grateful for them. But yes, they’re gone.

Yes, everybody dies, it’s part of life. We can enjoy the time we have together and miss people when they’re gone, but it is
important to understand that death is part of life. We will lose things we like, grow apart from friends, make new ones, move house. Pets, plants, and even people all die.
-“Is Santa real?” Santa is make-believe, but we can still have lots of fun with make-believe, kinda like Star Wars right? Also, don’t spoil it for your friends. 😅

We used to live together, but we fought and disagreed on everything and we decided it was better to live in separate houses so we can each be better parents for you and not fight so much. Understand?

Sometimes we need to hear what the guests are trying to say but she interrupts and over talks and throws too many questions out there.

It’s about time a movie was made on how the other half lives. We all have someone in our lives who has mental health issues. Maybe there will be some compassion and understanding about mental illness. I applaud and thank these actors for trying! Great cast!

Suicide rates for teens is the highest it’s ever been. 😥😥😥 Believe your kid if they tell you they can’t handle life. Don’t force them to do anything or you could end up without a child. Be supportive. ❤️💕❤️ Get them help. School counselors are not the way to go. I know, mine was an adult, but did commit suicide. He couldn’t handle the cruelty of being ignored by people (friends & family), who he loved, after the death of his best friend. This is what he told me before he died. 🦋💙🦋
So sorry for your loss and for sharing your experience. As a mother of young boys it is one of my greatest fears. This world is cruel and it is hard to know what is best for your kids sometimes 😥
Talking through it an hope it gets to true right place. I came from the place where your son was and had my husband ignore it when I screamed for help. However I used suicide prevention line a few times and ended up getting help with to wreath after. When I was a teenager, I tried to do it twice and thankfully it scared me due to the pain of things. But I hope you know with just you sharing your experience, you are changing lives and hopefully someone else can read what you wrote, notice it and hopefully it helps them at home. Sending much love. Im a big believer that the loved ones who pass away are still around us. I hope you stay strong.

Love the growth that Hugh has experienced. Would have been nice, however, to have actually heard him finish a thought or sentence without being interrupted. Gayle, you’re insecurities are so obvious when you can’t shut up long enough to allow the guest to speak. It’s why I have chosen for years not to follow or listen to your programs.
It’s not mental health issues. It’s growing up without a loving Father.

Recently, the UN, and several related organizations, marked two significant dates: the World Food Day and the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. International organizations for the poor and hungry have existed at least since the end of World War II, but neither poverty nor hunger have been eradicated. If anything, they have increased. What, then, are we doing wrong, and can we change the dismal reality?
The problem is not lack of food; there is plenty of it. In fact, much of the food that is produced gets thrown away and pollutes the water and the ground rather than feeding hungry mouths. So people are hungry not for lack of food, but because there is no interest in helping people get it.
The prevailing attitude is one of narcissism. We care only for ourselves and suspect everyone else’s intentions toward us. If we have any surplus funds, we use them to build walls and fences, not to help others. This is how we behave around the world as individuals and as nations.
To quiet our conscience, we create organizations to tend to the poor and hungry. We fund them generously and appoint functionaries and bureaucrats to deal with the problem.
But if our hearts were with the poor, we would not leave them in the hands of bureaucrats, just as we would not leave our children in the hands of social workers to see to their upbringing. We would see that the people we care about get what they need.
Because we do not care, we appoint uncaring people who present plans for dealing with the spreading poverty and hunger, and announce special days to bring the problem to public awareness. They do not do a thing about the actual problems, but simply justify their bloated salaries through professionally designed presentations and verbose speeches that glorify their (nonexistent) achievements.
If they truly wanted to solve the problem, which funds their lavish lifestyle, there would be many ways to do so. However, the surest way to lift people from poverty is education.
First, there are technologies that can increase the yield of fields by multiple times through sophisticated irrigation systems, controlled environments, and other means. Farmers need to be taught how to use these technologies, and should be given the means to acquire them. This step alone would lift countless people out of hunger and poverty.
Next, I think that organizations for eradication of poverty and hunger should use their budgets to buy lands where they will both grow crops for food that will be dedicated for the poor, and use some of the land to teach local farmers more efficient agriculture.
Additionally, these centers for agriculture and education should be used in order to provide general education. It is well known that educated people have more opportunities in life, are generally better off, and can provide for themselves and their families better than uneducated people. Therefore, as a means to eradicate poverty and hunger, these centers should also provide general knowledge and education.
Also, education should not be only about avoiding poverty. Poverty is not a personal matter, but a social one. Therefore, people who study at these education centers should also learn about solidarity, mutual responsibility, interdependence in today’s world, and other topics that will help them establish themselves as positive elements in a connected world.
In this way, we can create an agrarian transformation that will become a social and cultural transformation that can free people not only from the grip of poverty and hunger, but integrate them in the global society of the 21st century as confident and positive individuals. In turn, these people will help others rise from poverty, and the process will gain momentum.
But naa let’s just keep doing what we’re doing. It’s working

The most depressing movie you’ll ever watch

How conceited. A movie made him realize its hard to talk to their kids. It doesn't take a village to raise a child, it takes a dedicated parent. Yes I was a single parent that raised a great child. I hate the Hollywood "elite." They live in such a small world.
These people are immersing themselves in a character and explaining what they see on the other side. And even with a dedicated parent, many times it takes a village. Sometimes if your mind immediately goes to negative its best to look at what inside you draws out the response and consider saying less. Your response speaks more to who you are than the person you are criticizing.
WOW! What has happened in your life that makes you call someone that you do not know conceited! I am sure you must have some mental health issues in your own life to feel it is ok to attack someone bringing up an issue that needs to be talked about! My childhood was not easy by any stretch but I did learn manners! Let us know when you build that bridge to get over yourself!
I had the same reaction. Some of these people have forgotten (or never learned) what it is to be a parent. It does not take a "village". That idea comes from a weak mind. It takes a dedicated parent who knows their child better than anyone else does and loves them more than anyone else can and listens. There will be mistakes made along the way ... but the parent that continues to walk through everything with their child is the one who will have the best relationship with that child.
It takes both. I was a single mother and I was lucky to live in a caring community that helped us.
Ideally, having a village support you with parenting would be great, however, it usually doesn't happen. I raised 4 children with no support. I have lived outside the continental US for 35 years & have had one family member visit me. My kids turned out well. I made lots of sacrifices but it was worth it.
