  • The SuperDuke GT is back after a year off sale - it's now Euro 5 friendly and rocking the huge digital dashboard from the Super Adventure. Join me for a walkaround and good spanking of the new SuperDuke GT, including lots of comparisons to my own KTM Super Adventure S and the new similarly priced SuperDuke R Evo. It's a cracking bike - but who's it for?

    I own 2020 Gen 3 SDR equipped with full Akra and 2022 SAS. SDR is by far the best bike I’ve ever had for street use (17000miles) , but I should admit I struggle to enjoy my SAS as much (5000 miles so far). My main complaint is engine feel, LC8 on SDR with Akra tune is just phenomenal and has no buzzing, SAS feels way different and I don’t like the buzzing it has past 5000 rpm. When SDR is a dream in 3-4 gears in long sweeping corners and cruising in 5th at high speed, SAS doesn’t feel fantastic in lower gears. I know they are different bikes and for sure cruising in changing weather for days is far better on SAS, but I am sensing I may have bought a wrong bike for myself and hence my interest in this bike here, but I am also afraid that nothing short of SDR will make me happy. I may have to just buy some wind protection and slap it on SDR. Cheers

    @Juuul89 Před 2 lety +5

    It's actually the same exhaust as the first gen 1290 SDR, from 2014! Pretty crazy! However I'm pretty sure this is more of a gap year bike and they'll get a new one out next year or for 24 with the new SDR frame, swingarm, linkage, airbox/ramair etc.

    I have an 890R and this new for '22 GT. Frustratingly the left hand switch gear broke within a couple of days (the centre toggle snapped off) and is on back order. I also swapped out the rear sprocket for 40T (OE is 38) and its just raised the revs by about 250. Much better in town as a result. Very happy .... its a stonking bike and can cover big miles very quickly.

      @@fadetoblackMotorcycle The GT is arguably designed for … ‘GT’. Grand touring! It’s real strength in my humble opinion is covering big miles effortlessly. Test ride one, but if you generally do twistie roads and short trips, the 890R is probably the better bike for that ! 👍👍

    I bought it yesterday 😂❤ I have driven the SDR. I am 1m73cm. For me the SAS is to high and the SDR I really love. BUT if you just have 1 parkingplace for a motorcycle then it is very important to pick the right bike for everything you need! I need a fast bike for the short home round in the evening but also a bike for traveling over the swissmountains. For Enduru I would prefer something lighter, but i don‘t have plans to drive enduro. So SD-GT ‚22 ❤

    Really liked your video and after trying the Super duke R / Evo and the 1290 Super Adventure S I cannot wait to try the GT.

    I owned a 2016 - 1290 SDGT for 3.5 years, not a single issue. I sold it to stay out of jail. It's been very difficult to replace it with anything else. I am still smitten. Have ready rear tire money. The composure from the semi-active suspension granted charged corner entries and flattered my trail braking skills. You'll need some front tire money too, even though it touches the tarmac much less, corner exits not excluded!

    I own a 2020 SD GT, which is a fantastic bike. I would like to upgrade to the 2022 model for the larger screen and lighter wheels, but other than those two things I don't think there are any other reasons to trade in the 2020. I find the gas mileage to be really good BTW - if I keep it around 100km/h on the highway, I've seen figures up to 60mpg.

    Tim, not sure if you covered it properly but, the QS and blipper is standard on the GT, you have to 'activate' it on the R. I have both bikes, I've no idea why by the way. The R makes me laugh constantly, the GT makes me laugh now and then still but amuses me constantly and the panniers, heated seats etc are excellent. Apart from the screen, don't start me on the bloody screen... I'm on my 4th now and none of them are any good. Grrr.

      @@naranjalorange8584 Yes, I have a 2020 GT and bought both a Puig and a WRS windscreen for it. The Puig didn't look great but the wind protection was pretty good to excellent. The WRS is slightly smaller than the Puig, but looks really good (much better than the Puig, IMO) and the wind protection is about as good as the Puig. KTM should actually get rid of their OEM windscreen and supply their bikes with the WRS version. One thing I did was retain from the Puig was the mounting hardware, which was re-used for mounting the WRS screen. The WRS screen will of course mount to the bike using the OEM fasteners, but the Puig standoffs and fasteners are much better than the OEM gear.

    If KTM could sort the looks out on the bike, this would be one the best bikes to own as it does a lot. I loved mine but resale was a nightmare. Not enough people have tried them or can get over the ugly front. Shame as it’s basically a SDR with a bigger fuel tank so you can have more craziness for longer
