One of the best Super Welterweights of all time! Winky Wright was an excellent technician who possessed a terrific jab and superb defensive skills. Fundamentally he was one of the most sound fighters during his prime in the late 90's / 2000's and his 2 reigns at 154 lbs were very good. His most impressive performances came against Shane Mosley and Felix Trinidad as Wright's superior jab and overall boxing IQ made him the decisive winner. A fantastic fighter who often doesn't get the credit he deserves! www.patreon.com/haNZAgod
Underrated imo quality was wright
Mosley twice
Think he would of trouble mc Callum
Bro please make a highlight Joshua Clottey
Mc Callum vs winky who u like ?
Man build his whole career on three basics: jab, high guard, being southpow. And he became absolute champion and never have been KOed. Just understand how good he was.
Haney should study him
@@AliiG-ft6rj absolutely not. Winky still had solid punching power and a good chin 2 things that Haney lacks.
@@rayist1520 he's fight in philly shell and he's been caught a lot
Winky is who beginner southpaws should study
Don’t forget, excellent BALANCE as well. Winky was always in position to throw his punches and stay responsible defensively.
One of the most underrated boxers of last 40 years
Nobody asks this question....could he have beaten Floyd Mayweather? WOuld have been an interesting fight. Not the most exciting fight but whose defense would have cracked first. Question just popped in my head so I have no answer......just thinking out loud
@@androlibre9661Floyd asked that question to himself. Why he ran from him.
@@JustinG1978different weight class
You that right.
Agreed
You my friend are a true boxing fan. Real pugilists appreciate fighters like Winky. Not the flashiest but man if you've ever boxed, you'll really appreciate the simple but effective boxing style this man had. He was a damn machine too, crazy cardio to be able to pump that jab and block for 12 rounds.
Winky wasn't flashy but he was masterful, getting those results against hall of famers
Finally, someone mentioned his jab,he not only hard a great guard but a great jab, great build for a boxer that wants a good longetivity i guess.
Smooth jab clinical
Supremely underrated
Super great fighter that will not be forgotten
The coolest fighter I ever met in person . Very down to earth dude I met him at The Toney vs Jirov fight back in the day
Definition of a dominant right handed southpaw. His fight with Vargas was awesome.
He had power in that left hand too, guys would get caught with it and mentally breakdown
@@joshuaarmand5236 for sure. I’m not knocking his left hand, just pointing out it’s not seen as often. Chad Dawson comes to mind as someone like that I grew up with. Usually it’s a lefty dominant being orthodox, like Cotto or DLH for example.
@@Locusto199yup its become way more common in recent times, Shakur, Lomachenko, Poirier, Crawford, Naseem, some of these aint that recent such as Naseem, it has been around for a bit with guys like Hagler and Michael Moorer but i do believe you are right, it has been seen more on the flip side as back then being southpaw was frowned upon in and outside of boxing, guys like Liston who were naturally left handed were taught to box in the right handed stance, Tua mighta been left handed, Frazier, Cleveland Williams, Bob Foster, Henry Cooper, a lot of the big left hookers seemed to be more left dominant even in other punches
MASTERCLASS in the Basics of boxing JAB keep your guard up
And masterful block!
A right handed southpaw with great skill who was the most avoided fighter of his time. Never forget that Mayweather Jr called out Wright then ducked him.
I can forgive that, Wright is way too big
Great fighter and great video as always. He showed how far you can go if you just master the basics.
Is there any possibility of a "routes to the body" video with Jack Dempsey? It might be short but it was what he used to set up his most famous moments. That famous Willard knockdown, the Sharkey knockout, the Carpentier knockout, all set up with shots to the body... Some maybe a little lower...
Hmm never thought about that one before. Definitely a possibility for the future.
Master technician he was, incredible boxer.
Needed a new video on this guy, thanks hanza
Winky Wright fought every top dog in the middleweight division back in the days. All his losses came off close decisions. He from my hometown St. Petersburg, Fl. Keith Thurman is from here as well too.
This guy's resume would be wildly different if he just didn't take a couple round 12s off. One of the best of the 00s.
Winky showing the strong-side forward approach is very effective as long as the other hand is developed also.
Outstanding boxer a joy too watch again great highlights
Amazing!
I see why they called him winky right haha! Best softball job was quick and could hit you from any angle! I remember him from Fight Night Champion and jeez do I miss that game!!!
Loved Fight Night!
🥊Perfect example of how the jab sets you up for other things.👏👍👍
Шикарное видео, давно ждали джеб Винки, спасибо)
Winky is so underrated it's not even a joke
I love this guy. I am always fascinated on how boxers can't penetrate his guard
his arms are so long when he does his high guard his elbows cover his whole body
He constantly made slight adjustments to avoid openings in his guard. He also moved his body and feet in tandem with the guard to avoid becoming a static target.
Great video, hanzagod, and also, can you make a video of the cotto jab when you got the chance? Love your content and keep doing your thing.
Masterful Edit
Finally ❤❤❤
Good job and Winky had a great southpaw jab was one the reasons that helped him won fights.
good shit
Winky. 🥊☝🏿
hella underrated, great defense too
High guard was very effective also
The Double Jab and Effective Jab
Such a tough high guard to break through
winky paralyzed tito with that jab, all night
hall of famer
meu estilo de guarda preferido
One of the best southpaw jabs in boxing. Right alongside Marvin Hagler and Pernell Whitaker.
Ike bazooka Qarty ?
Fantasy fight would be Oscar vs Winky
In his prime Winky Wright was effective against every style of boxing.
Это мы смотрим!
Errol spence shouldve adopted this style
I hated watching this man fight I hate to say, lol. But he was extremely hard to beat. Dudes defense was top level and that jab…coming from southpaw
too!!! Nobody wanted to fight this guy.
It's interesting how Winky not having smth. special beat top-fighters. He wasn't flexible like Whitaker. He didn't have high work rate like Mosley. He didn't have a strong puch like Mayorga. He didn't use various and long combinations like Pacquiao. Also he didn't move fast. He walked in the ring with jab and one-two and became a winer. How was it?
The eyes don’t lie, he was a average fighter when compared to those you named except Mayorga who I think was a bum
@@Andrewthe22 you are mentally ill. It's sad.
@@mrbrongbum fighter and he actually got hit a lot if you actually watch his fights
Who would win prime winky vs money Mayweather
Winky I think.
Winky he's much larger
He beat Hopkins
Had all the talent in the world but seemed to really lack the killer instinct that you need to be an all time great.
You don’t need a killer instinct to be an all time great
His skills weren’t that great
@@raulramirez9657 Hard disagree. Winky let people off the hook and even lost some close fights because of it.
Nobody asks this question....could he have beaten Floyd Mayweather? WOuld have been an interesting fight. Not the most exciting fight but whose defense would have cracked first. Question just popped in my head so I have no answer......just thinking out loud
Floyd ducked him, so, answers your question
Yes he could have he's way bigger
Average fighter nothing special
Undisputed, Hall of Fame, defeated p4p#1 Tito and Mosley 2x
