Games that are played vary vary well, Anyone can "play" them. If any of these people joined a tourny they would be rekted so badly giving them no real training or telling them the rules. They would be rekted in basket ball if you gave them no real training or understanding of the rules. The only difference is Video games are new, and anything new is bad and should be dismissed. That counts new, life saving medicine.

Well staring at a computer screen for 6+ hours a day is unhealthy. But even if it's not healthy, who cares, it's still a competition. A good analogy for this is Strongmen eat a lot for competition to be the strongest, they risk their lives by reducing their lifespan just for the sport. Mountain climbers who clumb Mount Everest risked their lives GREATLY, some even died, but they did it for the sport. You get it.

@Enzo 09 In Esports like CSGO for example, you see extremely experienced and well trained individuals testing their Team coordination, aim and reaction time against each other at breakneck level of skill.
Instead of testing physical limits, you test your skill at the game. These guys aren't sitting on their asses relaxing they are pushing themselves to their best performance, it is competitive and thus it is by definition a sport

They feel like making money from esports is the equivalent of paying your receptionist millions of dollars because literally anyone can be a receptionist. While it couldn't be farther from the truth it takes a lot of practice and dedication plus talent to be good at esports. I feel like receptionist is a good comparison to esports in this sense because you can find plenty of ok/good receptionists and esports players but there are few that are exceptional.

Esports is a sport by definition it’s a game of physical skill (hands, eyes, the brain working to make strategies) and mental skill ( the strategies are applied to past encounters and the hand moves without thinking, and the eyes tracking the enemy player)
