Usoppn Booows that‘s true. Nothing tops football (i‘m talking about real football not murican football) in popularity. Dota & lol may dwarf the viewership numbers of the super bowl but the world cup and even the champions league dwarf every video game tournament that‘s out there, and i‘m not even a real football fan, i watch esports more than i do watch football, but it‘s just a fact.
What esport event pulled over 55k live audience to one specific match? Does anybody know? Its really hard to find info on the internet about this because they only state the online audience/count everyone who attended a 2-5 day long event in the articles I found. My guess is some tournament in east asia (china/korea) or maybe the us might have had numbers like that but Im pretty sure they never have a crowd bigger than 30k here in europe.
And it's not just pro gamers, you can get this crossover with real world, sim racing is the prime example of it -like Lando Norris streaming iracing on twitch.
You do realize that's like saying "3 million for being good at hitting a baseball?". These people are so exceptionally good a games, no normal person could ever dream to compete.
@@goose7378 Dota 2 can be argued as the most difficult MOBAs to date, its highly mechanical and skill-based where the small intricacies of things such as turn rate or timings is cruicial it can be a deterrent from new comers because mistakes in the game are quite punishing, but there is literally always room for improvement even after 10,000 hrs. Once you hit that mark and watch pro dota, you are more aware of what these professionals do that sets them apart from you and the rest of the community. Its a mentally challenging game and it's naive that individuals just play it off like its some silly game and cannot acknowledge let alone appreciate that not 'everyone' can do it. Like when someone ways oh, football is just kicking a ball, easy. Of course it isn't particularly when the first hurdle is being physically fit enough to run up and down a pitch for 90mins.
Practice alone is not enough the top players are truly gifted. If you want to put yourself into something and hope to be a professional you have more chances by picking baseball or soccer than those video games.
Numbers are bigger because it’s all online and easier to access lol. For the Super Bowl it’s like either be there, search for 30 mins to find some 360p stream that cuts out or buy cable/spend $400 on game pass
With the advancements in video game tech and the minimization of injuries compared to sports as well as the social aspects to it - I think gaming is gonna be a huge part of future economics in the world
Paulafan5 I think there is a lot of potential for danger for our society. I also think there are a ton of potential benefits such as a reduction in head injuries, increases in cognitive abilities once games become more complex, and I think the social aspects could rapidly increase as the acceptibility of gaming increases. On top of that, there’s not much of a social network around gaming yet relative to other activities. Once this increases I think we will find an increase in interaction with others while playing. Tbh half the reason I use a console is because I can play with dozens of friends from school and work whenever I want
I think the biggest reason gamers come off as awkward is because they are putting themselves into an environment that has been looked down on their whole lives. They fall in love with this beautiful puzzle and their whole world, parents, teachers, media, jocks, people who are allowed to get away with negativity, tell them that they are losers for dedicating themselves to this puzzle. In 2021, I see a lot more social, chill, charming, funny gamers than I used to and I think it's just they arent being so beaten down like they used to be. Trying new endeavors has always been hard for pioneers when it came to dealing with the rest of the tribe. I'm sure the first guy to love sailing was berated and told he was wasting his time, the first guy to want to try new things with fire was called trouble, Abraham Lincoln's dad told him off for spending too much time reading instead of getting into the farm work. It sucks when the older generations get it so wrong and beat down good young energy. But the average person is a fucking loser. Especially boomers.
I'm a semi-pro player myself and I'm just so happy that gaming is being brought into the limelight now. People are starting to accept it because these players are earning 10x more than PHD students, while years ago they'd laugh and tell us we'd be losers in life.
but keep this in mind, money in gaming like this wasn't always a thing and there's no telling how long it will be. This isn't something to bank on forever so i would milk it and make all that you can while it's where it is now, no telling what can happen.
Have you competed in any tournament? Or are you just saying you're a semi-pro based on skill? Semi-Pro gamers are the people who compete in tournaments but don't win any money.
For the record.... You can still be a loser making more than PhD's....i.e. gamers.. I think it's pitiful that you revel in the fact that someone playing a video game makes more than someone who actually did something that has the posibility of being useful to society..
TEU STFBLACKFOX dude tbh I don't see gaming going downhill at all, video games will always be crazy popular, little kids will always be addicted to it and that's where a bunch of money is, I really don't see it going down ever, we just keep getting more technology and not less

Dota & lol may dwarf the viewership numbers of the super bowl but the world cup and even the champions league dwarf every video game tournament that‘s out there, and i‘m not even a real football fan, i watch esports more than i do watch football, but it‘s just a fact.
[][][] I watch football and esports too, always love to see people with similar interests

What’s DotA, lol😂 Warcraft ring a bell, Joe Rogan. He’s thinking if only I can get paid playing PAC-man or Donkey Kong in the 80’s.
What's Dota? Joe should ask Basshunter. :V

Three million for being good at a video game? Hmmm, I wonder how much I can score with my Frogger skills. 🤔
3 million for being good at basketball ?

Joe is reminiscing about his gaming days.
FYI he was surprised in a good way
DOTA 2 TI and LoL worlds are huge.
Numbers are bigger because it’s all online and easier to access lol. For the Super Bowl it’s like either be there, search for 30 mins to find some 360p stream that cuts out or buy cable/spend $400 on game pass

With the advancements in video game tech and the minimization of injuries compared to sports as well as the social aspects to it - I think gaming is gonna be a huge part of future economics in the world
It's already leading to massive declines in productivity and social interractions from gamers. It could be devastating to societies.
This only happens with people who game in most of their free time instead of going outside and being social, i speak from experience.
Criiiiiinge
It’s not like there’s a huge industry built on people watching other playing a game cough cough any sporting event

I'm gonna be 100 with you
You aren't a semi-pro player
For the record.... You can still be a loser making more than PhD's....i.e. gamers..
I think it's pitiful that you revel in the fact that someone playing a video game makes more than someone who actually did something that has the posibility of being useful to society..
TEU STFBLACKFOX dude tbh I don't see gaming going downhill at all, video games will always be crazy popular, little kids will always be addicted to it and that's where a bunch of money is, I really don't see it going down ever, we just keep getting more technology and not less
