A basketball player dedicates himself to being better at basketball, a pro gamer dedicates himself to being better at a particular video game. They both work all fucking day to achieve those goals. Pro gamers have coaches and teams and sponsors and fucking obligations, they have contracts that say "I will practice and exercise X amount every day" and they fucking do. Even if they wake up feeling like the last thing they want to do is play video games, they fucking play video games. And they don´t just mindlessly play either, they´re fucking focused. A counter strike pros day looks like this: Wake up, eat, do a bit of exercise to wake up the reactions, play maybe 3-4 hours of aim and reflex training that you HAVE TO FOCUS ON even if you´re bored as fuck, take a little break and eat something again, get in a team chat with your teammates who you live together in the same house with, do bomb site retake drills on repeat for hours, practice your molotov, grenade, and smoke throws, memorize all the necessary timings for rushes and stuff like that, whatever your coaches feel you need to do to up your teamwork and individual skills. Then you go to sleep, wake up, do it all again. Even if you´re bored and tired and you don´t feel like it, it´s your job. Now does that really seem different from a pro basketball players day? No, it really fucking doesn´t, and sometimes I´d say it can be even harder mentally

Once you hit that mark and watch pro dota, you are more aware of what these professionals do that sets them apart from you and the rest of the community. Its a mentally challenging game and it's naive that individuals just play it off like its some silly game and cannot acknowledge let alone appreciate that not 'everyone' can do it. On top of that, there’s not much of a social network around gaming yet relative to other activities. Once this increases I think we will find an increase in interaction with others while playing. • @41kils

I think the biggest reason gamers come off as awkward is because they are putting themselves into an environment that has been looked down on their whole lives. They fall in love with this beautiful puzzle and their whole world, parents, teachers, media, jocks, people who are allowed to get away with negativity, tell them that they are losers for dedicating themselves to this puzzle. In 2021, I see a lot more social, chill, charming, funny gamers than I used to and I think it's just they arent being so beaten down like they used to be. Trying new endeavors has always been hard for pioneers when it came to dealing with the rest of the tribe. I'm sure the first guy to love sailing was berated and told he was wasting his time, the first guy to want to try new things with fire was called trouble, Abraham Lincoln's dad told him off for spending too much time reading instead of getting into the farm work. It sucks when the older generations get it so wrong and beat down good young energy. But the average person is a fucking loser. Especially boomers.
