    I was originally skeptical but this video is 100% accurate. I have low and medium pile carpets. I also have a V15 Detect. I can tell you that with the V15 I always have on AUTO and the medium pile have gate in middle and works perfectly. On the low pile I fully close gate and get great cleaning. I just bought the Gen5 and will be returning to the store. The suction and/or brush on the floor attachment won't operate properly. Keeps on shutting down. Hardwood floors, not an issue, just if you have carpet is where the problem occurs.

      I’ve been comparing the V15 Detect Extra (Canadian model) vs the gen5 at home because of Black Friday sales, I digress. The trigger on the V15 makes it easier to stop and go if the vacuum gets stuck on the carpet. The gen5 will stay on and keeps the suction going but the motor in the brush stops until you power on and off which is annoying as there’s no trigger to just quickly release and then keep going.

    Wow this was a surprise! Now I totally agree with you how Dyson really needs to design cordless upright. They know how to make really good uprights and they have very good cordless technology. I am actually surprised why only stick format cordless vacuums from Dyson and not a single cordless upright. Cordless Dyson upright would be a smash hit! And my biggest issue with any stick vacuum is all the limitations + handle weight. Very good video 👌

    Seeing this video after buying my wife the gen5 detect for Christmas, I was a little concerned as we have thick, shaggy carpet. However, we haven't had any issues at all. This thing breezes through everything, even with the gates at the default/medium setting. Maybe this guy just got a dud, or they've improved the design since? Ours has been excellent in every way. about them changing the docking station- as i understood it the new gen 5 works on different voltage so they had to change it so people don't screw up their machines with older chargers. you can actually compare how much the voltage is on the batteries. besides that everything you said about it looks legit..it seem that they have made the vacuum even worse for carpets. i have the dyson big ball animal and i honestly love it...but am really in a need of something that is good for a quick work around the hose so have been looking at dysons stick vacuums..

    Very good review. I believe the term you are looking for with the cleaner head is 'agitation', as this is what causes the dirt to dislodge from the carpet and is just as vital as suction power.
    With your heavy shaggy carpet, a perfect vacuum seal is being created (As in the video) not allowing for any air flow or proper agitation of the brush head. By flipping the switch and opening the front gates, you allow the airflow to be free when vacuuming Shag carpet, this allows for greater cleaning power and suction, contrary to what you may think.
    I agree with your flaw regarding the internal shroud film, I sucked up some drywall dust and now my shroud is plugged up, not sure how to clean it our. A very big design oversight by Dyson.

    • @parwaz7861
      @parwaz7861  Před rokem +1

      The V15 is a good vacuum, just don’t squeeze the trigger too hard because they can break. The Gen 5 will work on very thick carpets like a 2 inch thick carpet for example but generally dense carpets it just doesn’t work properly
      As for the different filters, the standard filter works well enough for capturing allergens and the finest dust particles, the more advanced blue filter filters a little better and captures particles down to 0.01 microns compared to 0.3 microns on the standard V15
      All V15s have HEPA filters

  • @nategerwitz7717

    Have you tried the gen 5 outsize? Maybe due to the smaller head on the regular gen 5, the suction is too compressed and it makes the smaller head not keep up. Maybe the larger head would have better ventilation and be able to keep up since the suction power would be more distributed. Just a thought! Has anyone used the outsize and had similar or different results?

    I dont understand why the floor head bogs down, its identical to the v15 detect? Is it because of the higher suction and airflow. The head is just a different colour. I am toying with a v8, v15 or v5 gen detect but the v8 only has 40 mins so think i'll get a v15.

    • @parwaz7861
      @parwaz7861  Před 11 měsíci

      The brushbar slows down because the brushbar motor isn’t powerful enough to cope with the powerful suction motor, there are upright vacuums with higher suction that can seal to carpets yet still agitate the carpet properly, this Gen 5 can’t do that because the brushbar motor lacks the torque required
      The v15 head has the same power and is decent enough, the Gen 5 has way more suction which is why it has this issue

    • @parwaz7861
      @parwaz7861  Před rokem +2

      There isn’t really a “best” vacuum because everyone has different requirements in a vacuum and they all offer different features but there are different models I recommend;
      1) Dyson ball animal with the wide diameter brushbar - fantastic performance on all floors, filters stay cleaner than shark filters, long hose reaches up the stairs, ball technology steers around furniture, and great for pets
      Dyson cordless V10/11/15 for a decent cordless vacuum
      Sebo X7 - a high quality reliable bagged vacuum that works great on carpets, not the best on hard floors but can be used on hard floors.
      Sebo felix - much more powerful than the sebo X7 and fantastic on bare floors, but if you have really thick carpets the X7 would be better
      Shark corded vacuums are good as long as you keep the filters clean. If you want cordless, a Dyson is better than Shark overall
      As for canister/cylinder vacuums, either a Miele c3 or a Henry vacuum cleaner

    I think this video on the whole is good, however i think one thing to mention is suction vs airflow, any hoover that its head so powerfully pushed into the carpet that it creates almost no airflow will perform poorly, the gate + for maximum suction is only for floors where the head cannot but sucked tight against a surface, Suction alone doesnt pull the dirt, its the airflow of the dirt carrying the dirt up towards the negative air pressure, also Cyclone technology needs a certain amount of airflow in order to be able to seperate the dirt from the air. So yes you might think its working poorly, on deep pile but thats because it should have the gates open for maxmum airflow, the brush bar agitates the dirt and then the flow through the head carries the dirt up into the bin.
    i have to say though you highlighting the build quality issues is quite impressive no other video has mentioned it.

    • @parwaz7861
      @parwaz7861  Před 10 měsíci

      Thanks! As for the cleanerhead and airflow, I feel like the vacuum can breathe through most carpets anyway, unless it’s something like a non porous backed carpet then it would be ideal to open the vents to allow some airflow through
      Great point about the cyclones, they definitely need maximum airflow to be able to capture all the microscopic particles.
      I do feel like the vacuum can breathe through a carpet pile but if I open up the vents on the front, surely more of the airflow would find it easier to exit out the front of the vacuum than to go inside the carpet? If there was more airflow flowing through the carpet pile I feel like they would be more cleaner

    As our beloved V8 has refused to work (won't charge the battery) after years of use, we are looking for a new Dyson. I thought the gen5detect would be the top of the range, but it seems we should rather buy the V15 instead? Mostly we have hard floors, but I also want to clean the few carpets we have, mainly at the entrances from the garden and front yard etc. Also the bathroom rugs, which are piled very high, should be able to be vacuumed. You could change the battery on your V8 (only 3 screws) very easy and takes a minute

    I have also had the Gen5detect for 2 weeks. I come from the V8, which I bought in 2016. I only have hard floors (it performs even better than the V8, and that on Eco!), so I can't provide any experience with how it behaves on carpets. I paid 800 euros for the Gen5.
    I have to agree with them about the build quality. My copy also has the protruding red seal on the cyclones and the paint abrasion. On my V8, this seal is flush and is therefore protected from damage. There were no flaws in the paintwork during its cyclones.
    The motorized attachments of the Gen5, but especially the brush roller, actually appear more delicate in terms of material appearance than the ones that came with my V8. If I happen to own a small carpet or want to properly vacuum upholstered furniture such as a scratching post, I get a little uneasy about whether the attachments will survive long enough, but only time can tell.
    In summary, it can be said that 800 euros is too much for what is delivered, especially since we are talking about a device from Dyson. It's a shame that I only found your good video now, then I would have gotten the V15.

    Well I’ve never looked at this model apart from your last video I just assumed it was a v15 with minor improvements. But it actually appears they have taken the pretty bad problems that the other machines had and made it so much worse. Then charge a even more ridiculous price for it when you could buy a vax air for £80 that does a better job with less flaws ! Personally the world of cordless machines has never appealed so far but if I was to ever buy one it certainly wouldn’t be a dyson. I would rather opt with the Henry quick it may not clean as good but I couldn’t justify paying so much for a dyson with massive design flaws !

      It’s better to leave it in Eco mode with the gates on + mode than having it on auto with the gates opened because the suction has no choice but to go inside the carpet
      With the gates open more air leaks out the front that goes into the carpet
      Suction (water lift) is needed to maintain airflow through the carpet pile

    To think a Dyson Big Ball to run on a battery you need to compare specs ..a v15 battery is 25.5v with 3.6Ah so that gives 91Wh..the big ball 3 has around 800w motor so at 220v it gives 3.6 A so it maintains the same amount of amps but you feed 220v not 25v you need a way way larger battery and one that can give 10x more voltage so battery technology is still inferior

Atrocious quality control, the dust counter does not work at all, and therefore this while whizzy automatic control doesn’t work either. If Dyson wants to sell vastly overpriced equipment that’s fine but at least make sure it actually works out of the box. That is not hard (sorry, it is indeed not hard - hire someone competent and they will get this right in 3-6 months). Terrible.
