Bloodbending is a sub-skill of waterbending that allows an extremely advanced waterbender to take hold of and manipulate fluids within an organism's body, allowing the bender to move the person's muscles. This technique is referred to as the darkest, most powerful, and most feared of all bending techniques, and it is the only art known to endanger the user's mental state.

The fact that Katara was able to use blood bending on another human on her first try when it took Hama decades to do really shows how powerful she really is.
Well kitara had hama to help her. Hama learned on her own each passing full moon likely mal nourished and sleep deprived... Hama forced her technique on Kitara and kitara had to break free from it...using her water bending to break the control of blood bending was her reverse engineering the technique using it from another angle defensively... Yeah kitara is powerful but the circumstances made it do she could learn blood bending quicker than hama ever could
@@Gamingslave hama never helped her and even when katara went against hama she tells katara "you should have waited for me to teach you the technique" and that it was impossible to break free from her hold but katara broke free easily and learned how to blood bend in a matter of seconds on her own
@@itsjoshwa She says she should've learned the technique, as to say she should've learned it to stand a chance against her in a fight but kitara still in fighting off the effect learned something about the technique
@@Gamingslave you basically just contradicted yourself and no it's not, her breaking the hold Hama had on her just shows how powerful she is and just because she broke free doesn't mean she learned anything about bloodbending, she learned bloodbending entirely on her own and in a matter of seconds
@@itsjoshwa that make no sense... But I'm not going to argue about this
Imagine if they show how a bloodbender was able to rip the blood out of someone's body the same way they were able to rip water out of trees.
Gruesome AF
I wanna see that so badly
I wish we could have seen a bloodbender who could use their own blood to fight, similar to how the abilities are in the anime Deadman Wonderland. Basically using your own blood to make blades and use as projectiles. That would have been cool to see in avatar but its probably a little gruesome as well.

@TSG KiLLem Twice Too dangerous. The Dai Li are a perfect example of good intentions producing horrible results.
You got pimple problems? You must have pimple problems...
The only problem when it comes to blood blending by trying to transfer someone’s blood to another is blood type. Not everyone’s blood in the series are the same. Just like in real life not everyone has the same blood type.
@Gavin Mansour Nah, all I'm saying is that Avatar Kyoshi established the Elite Dai Li to protect Ba Sing Se, hundreds of years later they brainwashed their citizens, held the king hostage and basically became the Gestapo, not to mention helping the fire nation take Ba Sing Se. Imagine how scary that would be with Elite bloodbenders, no one could stop them if they turned.
@@theanti-christ2842 You still need people with the knowledge of being able to defend against it. If another someone like Yakone appears, they're screwed if the avatar is still a kid. would be harder to make a nation of bloodbender rather than conquering the world, ngl
Just a small army is enough..
I feel Buumi level earthbenders are enough to stop them. Guy swims through earth for gods sake. Imagine someone you don't know when he'll appear then suddenly drags you underground and buries you alive. That's scarier.
Naruto even just like 5 or 10 could be really hard to beat especially if they knew how to do it at any time like Amon in tlok

waterbending is sick even withought blood bending

I just don’t get why Katars didn’t just keep bloodbending a secret
uhmm didn't you hear somehow it got spread you or i know that katara will never do that especially when she is mature in her mother state
Everyone knew about it when she proposed to ban everyone from using it.
Even so, any waterbender with ill intentions will come to the conclusion that bloodbending is possible., they just need to make the same training hama did.
There where also witnesses (Hamma's victims) that heard when she called Katata a bloodbender. I can imagine they figured it out on their own as well, plus having Hamma captive gave them the chance to get info out of her
You realized Hama bloodbent like 50 people and wasn't killed after she was caught right? those people or Hama herself could've spread the information of its existence

And shattering the blood inside the body..
They would actually be able to do that wouldn't they? That is TERRIFYING.

What affects me the most about all of this, without knowing why, is the fact that Katara, the only one of the five people able to bloodbend, that despised herself for ever learning the technique, is the last person known in the entire Avatar world able to bloodbend.
she learned it against her will. she stated she hated bloodbending and should never be used. she only ever uses it twice. and the reason she is probably the only and last alive is because she has not taught anyone and the others who have known about bloodbending have either been imprisoned killed or no information is given on them
Blood Bending is Illegal, so its possible for Water Benders to try and develop it themselves like Hama or Tarlok or Amon could of have a kid out there somewhere and that could would be able to learn if without Full Moon
@@nanossquad1706 uh... Was your argument literally that "it's illegal so it's impossible for it to be developed"...
Cause like... That's never stopped anything from being developed before XD
Plus, with the amount of crooked people on any earth, real or not, there's bound to be people alive, water benders alive, who'd damn well love to try. Plus not like the concept is that hard to conceive.
Everyone knows that people have water in them, and that water benders are stronger under the full moon.
One semi smart guy, slightly drunk, and pissed off could probably get to a basic foot hold...
@@DTux5249 No I'm just saying it outlawed. It been successful, because people are afraid of bloodbending. Most likely a waterbender who started trying to practice during full moon is possible but if th tells the wrong person or the wrong person sees them, they would probably be taken into custody right away. Right now in there world, people basically see blood bending as witchcraft and see it as a fear. In a way Katara made sure people saw that way. It probably gonna be another generation in the Avatar world before a waterbender decides why not try
@@nanossquad1706 true, most are fearful of it, and it's a very rickety slope

It's honestly very surprising so few a crooked water bender have tried to use it. In a criminal underworld, it would be an amazing intimidation/combat tactic.

Yeah any wound could be healed just forcing the blood to clot
You could do blood transfusions, take out huge fat emboli and prevent cardiac and pulmonary embolisms, and do hemodialysis

Kinda disappointing how Katara's the only blood bender left. Maybe Korra could learn it to defeat a new enemy, but I doubt that Katara would be willing to teach it to her.
Blood bending slowly dying out is probably for the best. While it has a lot of practical uses for things like medicine, it's extremely lethal compared to other secondary bending elements (metal, lava, and lightning) because of how invasive of a technique it really is. If they ever wanted to teach it how would they be able to make sure no one abuses such a powerful technique?
Even if Katara did end up teaching Korra, it would’ve been impractical to know it since unlike Amon and his family, all other waterbenders can only bloodbend under a full moon
I think if korra learned it she would refused to use blood bending just like katara, plus she was the one that banned bloodbending all toghether and is illigal to use the method😌

@@yeet8963 didn't yakone said to tarlok and noatak (during their break on waterbending) that it was the coward katara who banned bloodbending🤨?
Hama was the first recorded bloodbender but probably not first to develop the technique. Yakone mentioned that his family has the strongest line of bloodbenders. Which would imply that there may have been waterbenders who secretly developed and practiced bloodbending long before Hama figured how to do it herself.
That’s the interesting thing about the bending system. It makes sense that people all discovered it congruently. Theoretically any bender could learn any ability in their element. It’s about training and ability.

ive always thought bloodbending was a weird one
blood circulates throughout your body at high speeds and is mostly likely why most waterbenders cant bend it
and when a loodbender does bend it it pretty much stops circulation as seen everytime someone does it the victim stops and it unable to move
in this case it only takes a few seconds of control over someone to knock them unconscious as no oxygen is being supplied to the body
so theory: maybe bloodbending doesnt bend *blood*, but the fluids inside your cells aka cytoplasm. thats how theyre able to control movements
but if need they can bend the actual blood of an organism, knocking them unconscious
@Heaven Brown yeah idk where this person got their info
@Heaven Brown yeah idk where this person got their info
I think no one's understand that an human body is 70 percent water, so they prob not bloodbend, they just call it like that
Heaven Brown nono i said knock them unconscious, not kill them
Jasmine 5657 yes most of the water is in cytoplasm, basically trying to bend someones body is like trying to bend trillions of small pockets of water, which is why it is so hard to do
I actually thought of more "dark arts" bending.
Fire could bend the lifeforce or body heat in a person.
Earth could bend the carbon/iron/etc in a person's body.
Air... as said and seen, could suck out all the air from a person.
Yeah, but you haven't dug deep enough yet. There's oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases in your bloodstream and lungs right now. An airbender could rip that out of you. Then there's the iron, magnesium, and potassium in the body. Imagine what a good metal bender could do.
And fire could probably do a lot more. Light manipulation, etc
Air bending can explode someone lungs from the inside i think
The one with Earth is exactly how Earth Spirit in DOTA 2 uses his ult
Rousing the mineral in a oneself body to rebel againts its own body
BRUTAL
I like the air one...
Xtreme J metalbender cant bend metal. They bend the earth that’s infused into the metal. When toph first metalbends, she notices that there are traces of rock in the metal cage, and bends that, not the metal itself.
If we really being honest Hama could of ended the war before The Avatar if she wanted to
She would be exploded by the bomb man from a mile away
All she need is make all the fire ending become her puppet vs the other fire benders
10,000 subscriber with with only 10 video She can only bloodbend two people at a time.
No, not really. Assuming Hama spread the skill of bloodbending to both tribes, they would use it to the point where they would be the tyrants. The war would continue but the Fire Nation would no longer have the leading edge. Not to mention, this was a new skill and she required tapping into the full moon to even use it.
Possibilities are less
Because she was the first one to bend and she didn't know much about it and also she needs full moon

Isn't water bending someone better than blood bending someone, since humans are more than 80% water, a bender could easily dehydrate another person.
Jorge Cadme not really since about 3L of that 65-75% is blood plasma. Basically 2/3 of the water in your body is intercellular, and 1/3 is extracellular, i imagine it would be very hard to concentrate on those intercellular water pockets since they’re so small. Blood on the other hand is a huge quantity and could probably easily be sensed by a water bender.
... Thus why it’s called “blood bending”.
Lmao, water bending is blood bending. They can blood bend because there’s water in blood. That was already explained.

Blood bending can't heal people because you cant close wouds, you just make wounds
@@gerabitavci7958 I don’t see why it can’t do both. A surgeon “makes wounds” for the benefit of the patient.
@@JM-us3fr (this is what i THINK) Bloodbenders are able to control people right, they can snap their bones by breaking the muscle the bone is on with. They can make people's heart stop and blood stop flowing. They can paralyze their brain and break they vains. They are able to remove your powers by breaking your chi and making it unhealable unless the avatar uses spirit things you know. They can make organs boil or freeze them same with the blood or heart or anything that has a bit blood in your body.
@@gerabitavci7958 I see no reason why they couldn't guide a medication to damaged tissue, warm or cool a person's body, clot a wound, or perform direct CPR using the exact same abilities. My criticism is that the show only explored negative uses, which flies in the face of one of the messages of the show which is that bending is merely a tool, and it is the person who uses it for either good or evil.
@@JM-us3fr yea il starting to agree with you👍🏼 they can use some things to try to put a muscle back, make the blood in veins flow again and try to keep the blood inside if a person is bleeding to dead yeaaa

me watching last air bender : "maybe in the future the lightning bending can be used for industrial era and blood bending for the advancement of the world of health and medicine".
me watching Korra : "sigh......... why peaple can't see the benefit of blood bending"
I'm intrigued on the benefits
I don't think that's how bloodbending works. And while bloodbending could be used for health advancement(though I don't really understand how and no one elaborated on that exactly) the thing is that bloodbenders are dangerous. If someone is able to bloodbend freely, the person would be basically unstopabble except for the Avatar or other bloodbenders. Power corrupts people and there could be many benefits of teaching bloodbending, think of a city or even a nation full of bloodbenders. That could go horribly wrong. Bloodbending is a whole sub bending based on making people doing things they don't wanna do. A bloodbender could be as well a murderer, a robber, a torturer or a rapist. And they could do a lot of damage before ever being arrested besides not being safe to contain even in prisons unless their bending is taken away from them. In TLoK, it looks like there had been some problems with bloodbending already given Katara's efforts to outlaw bloodbending(why would you outlaw bloodbending if there are no bloodbenders?). So I think it was not as much of "not seeing the benefits", more of a "there are more cons than pros" situation.
the lightning.. i saw a glimpse of it used in korra fpr industrial purpose

Because power and greed. There are only a select few who can blood bend, even more so a few who can't be corrupted by power and greed. Those people should need a great deal of constraint when and where is the right time to use such techniques.

katara: the last blood bender
Actually Hama said in atla that she took years not months perfecting this technique
I realized that metal bending could possibly be used to subtract essential metals and other metal substances from another person’s body and might actually be one of the most gruesome looking ways of killing if it was used like this.
I remembered the scene in x men where magneto extracts iron from the guard. That was gruesome
@@SCCKeyboardist but the metal was injected artificially
it is explained that you can't actually bend the metal, but the traces of earth in the metal. and it was specifically mentioned that they can't bend pure metals
Iron in the blood isn't a metal, it's embodied in the blood so it can't be pulled out without it. I think so at least. There's no earth in the iron inside our body, sadly?

The two were just two broken souls that felt like they couldn’t escape they’re fathers grasp
Tarlok, even though he did some bad things to Korra isn’t really evil
He just felt like he had to get her out of the way and bloodbending was the Only way.
When he apologized to Korra I knew that he really was just broken and felt helpless and guilty of his actions
And Noatak just thought that bending was bad because he saw what it can do and only grew up seeing the horrific scary side of it
He really thought that he was doing the right thing
Both brothers’ lives were so sad
And when they died I’ve got to admit I shed a little tear
Tarlok killed them both to try and put them out of their misery I guess
And Amon accepted his fate knowing that it would be best to rid the world of such broken sad people.
It really is sad
Saddest death in the series.
Wait witch two brothers
See the thing about Hamma that I never understood was when she freed herself why did she not free her fellow water benders? It’s show’s them in the cages next to and across from her and yet she doesn’t take a little time to unlock the other cages or at least give someone else the keys in order to save more water benders. *Firebenders* can just make fire inside a human body and kill them
*Waterbenders* can just pull out blood from human body to kill them
*Airbender* can just pull out air from the person's lungs till they die
Earthbenders: Break apart the ground beneath and crush them.
How would they start the fire in the body tho
With fat
Dont forget about how you have water bending, blood bending. Fire bending then lightning bending. I wonder if there are more
Air benders wont be able to subdue the enemy tho. Yes they can take away the air in the lungs, and that would cause excruciating pain, but unlike bloodbending, it wont render the enemy immobile. The enemy could retaliate and kill the airbender as the airbender would need to constantly concentrate on taking away the air from his/her enemy's lung, while the victim could just fight back and ignore the pain, since he would just be able to breath in lots of air after the airbender is killed
It’s still a mystery to me how Katara could’ve bloodbend Fire Lord Ozai and just won the war

I feel queasy about it. Like the blood stopping or being manipulated moved.
I have nothing against Hama, she did what needs to be done. For all the things that she endured... i can only imagine.
She became an extremist like jet and started hurting innocent people. Using bloodbending to get out of the cell , sure. But going out of her way to blood bend innocent civilians into a mountain dungeon is extreme. She could keep living peacefully as an inn lady or return to the southern water tribe. But she stayed there to hurt people who had nothing to do with her trauma.
Here's the craziest thing, Hama is Katara's MENTOR in her journey and she's also the Shadow of her journey as well. It's NUTS.
I love how the 4 elements can be modified or transformed into a new form of bending
I just thought of a little theory..what if Hama's intention in the beginning (before she knew Katara was a water bender) was about to bloodbend the avatar group into the mountain?
I mean think about it, they had the fire nation's clothes, and they both were alone in a forest which would've made it an easy kidnapping since they were close. (just think from Hama's perspective, she probably thought that they were from the fire nation and alone)
and why would an old fragile innocent women just be in a forest in the middle of the night?
pretty useless theory but..you cant escape the thought that this is a possibility.
pretty sure it wasn't a full moon
Interesting theory, however it wasn't a full moon, and as far as we know, Hama couldn't bloodbend without it.
Maybe she was stalking them, waiting until the full moon? Or maybe she has some weakened version of blood bending and was waiting until one of them wandered off for a moment.
Kiyan Pardakhti at that time the user can only use bloodbending on full moon. There was no evidence that Hama can use bloodbending without full moon appearance
Napsta well...hama already said in that episode that she listened to their conversations and heard that some of them were from the watertribe
She probably intended to kidnap them and bloodbend them into the mountain but after hearing Katara's story realised they weren't fire nation.
Such traumatic events, can change even the sweetest of hearts.
I thank you for creating this video. Blood-bending, air-bending, metal-bending lava-bending are my favorite forms of bending, including when Zaheer from The Legend of Korra used air-bending on Hou-Ting.
I remember this episode with the old lady scaring me so bad when I was a little kid 😣 but now it’s one of the most fascinating ones 😅
Huh Hamma was next to other waterbenders 😅 why not teach other waterbenders as well and free them
Not any water bender can do that. Only the talented one, and she's not sociable maybe 😅
They wernt other waterbenders, and you guys logic is dumb, the southern watertribe was already small so i am pretty sure almost everybody knows eachother there
@lo l it isnt
@lo l Does that even matter? At least listen to its explanation.
@lo l Well, at least your 'level of understanding' can understand 'his' 'comprehension'. You're not dumb. We're not in school, just having a casual discussion in here.
They said that while the moon is full, all water based liquid are pure and rich.
Poor Katara not only forced to control someone like a puppet but she also ended up handing over the only other surviving southern water bender she had ever met to the fire nation. That stuff would really mess you up.

Fun fact: unlike the other bending arts which mimic real martial arts, blood bending mimics puppetry more than any martial art, which is fitting as we know what the style does.
A detail about Blood Bending that makes it a bit more unique from other forms of Bending is that instead of the Movements being based on Martial Arts it's based on the hand movements used to make a Marinate (not puppet those are two different things) move
