Norton Nemesis V8 rebuild - Episode 9

- In this video I'm fitting the new alternator gear and assembling the lower and intermediate crankcases and checking the function of the oil pump
Note: All parts will be thoroughly cleaned before final assembly, so any debris , swarf dust of dirt seen under macro cinimatography in this video will be cleaned off later.
The Norton Nemeses is a pre production prototype that was made in the late 90's with claims of a 200+mph top speed from its 1500cc fuel injected V8 engine.
As far as I'm aware, this is the only bike that has survived but if any of you know of other bikes please leave a comment. This bike is owned by the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham UK has been on display as a non running exhibit for many years.
I have already worked on the bike last year getting the engine to run after a few rudimentary checks, new oil and batteries for series 12 of Henry Cole's "The Motorbike Show" where Henry rode it for a few miles up to around 50 mph, but it wasn't running very well and was leaking a lot of oil and coolant.

Over the coming months I will be stripping the bike to sort out a few issues with the V8 engine and hopefully make it run and ride how it was intended 25 years ago. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
No blowing smoke up any ones arse , however, I think that it’s wonderful that out of all the engineering companies and experts in the UK , Allen Millyard is the only choice when you want a prototype, one off , unreliable engine, rebuilt with reliability built in. Fantastic work, another masterclass , again.
Definitely the man's a Mechanical genius.
He's not a genius, he just pay attention to detail. Every part must be as good as he can do it so the result is at least as good as he wants to. Some call it perfectionism, others just call it normal work.
He’s incredible. My stepfather is the same with carburettors. Cool & calculated.

I have these Zen like moments watching Alan work it’s mechanical ballet plus what’s going on in the kitchen , Charlie having a large one and the hedge pigs is just the cherry on the top , I’m totally chilled by the end .

I’m a V8 car guy, haven’t ride a motorbike since I was 19,I’m 52 I love engineering and have some of these talents and skills I’ve learned over many years, but Allen channel is the only one I’ve watched everything, I really have. Allen’s skills are off the charts, he can rebuild /design a bespoke V8 as easy as I find replacing a spark plug. An irreplaceable man.

The only problem with Alan's great videos is that they come to an end......I wish they were 2 hr vids because I could watch him work all day. That clock ticking in the background is just so relaxing, and of course Charlie Weaver is a star in his own right.
When I was much younger, I was introduced to the concept of ‘ mechanical sympathy’.
Here is a gentleman who was actually born with this in mind - plus the innate ability to analyse and solve complex engineering problems single handed. Hats off to you Alan, this video is superb on many levels.
I'm still amazed how some people designed this bike to be so overcomplicated, yet took so little care in building it.
Under pressure to deliver, tight finances and this was a test bed quality effort . . . The first CB750 probably wasn't much better

Many things makes it look like some sort of apprentice project!
No doubt an amateur welding job, and embarrassing compared to so much of the original design and fabrication. Another sloppy area was the crudeness of the head ports shown in an earlier segment.

It's so relaxing to watch, especially with the clock ticking in the background.
Allen must be the only person I know who doesn't own or use power tools. It is amazingly peaceful watching the leisurely but fastidious process.
I am sitting in awe of the quiet skill. This is so relaxing and informative. Alan makes this job look so straightforward, when it would be an insoluble nightmare to us mortals.

The originals were Trump. Allen will make _something,_ and whatever that _something_ ends up looking like, it would deserve submission to The Design Centre (if that still exists).
I love the way Allen says the nemesis engine is so complicated then goes on so calmly to improve and rebuild it with what seems relatively simple for him, love how calm and composed he always is explaining every step as it’s happening, always gives me a confidence boost watching his videos and feel like I can try any repair’s that crop up on my own bikes, thank you so much for this and all the tips I’ve picked up along the way 👍

It's always a sheer delight to see a master at work. I was more delighted than I should've been to see that bolt took down and the chamfer added! The bike itself is shaping up beautifully. I could watch these all day.

Alan’s skill and appeal is he makes very professional products with rudimentary tools in his garage.
Your vast experience has given you a truly remarkable depth of knowledge. Things like fitting modified gixxer bearings, Honda oil pickups etc remind me of 'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance'; quality is making parts fit for the purpose. Norton could never have made as good an engine as what you're rebuilding.

Allen, you do incredible things, with a zen attitude and really didactic explanations. In this case, you restore not only the body of a special motorcycle, but also its dignity... It has suffered a series of lazy workarounds, which you meticulously undo. It's a real pleasure to follow this.
Allen, what is going to happen with the Nemesis when you have finished it? Please don't say that after all your meticulous work it will just languish in a museum somewhere? lf it is, at least let something outstanding be done with it first, something that will go down in history! I’ve never enjoyed a rebuild of a motorcycle engine so much, and this is no ordinary engine. As Alan has had to modify and re-machine so much of this engine makes you wonder what “clowns” built and assembled this bike in the first place. And there’s Alan just putting everything correct “as casual as you like” what a fantastic engineer Alan is👍👏👏
Clowns? Do you know what I involved in taking an engine from paper to reality? With all due respect, Allen absolutely couldn't do it, yet apparently those who did are idiots...

So pleased to see another instalment of the V8 so soon after the eighth, years ago I’ve rebuilt simple uncomplicated engines but when I watch Allen’s attention to detail I wonder how the ones I nailed together ever stayed reliable.
Everybody immediately sold off everything I did that was successful, *_long_* before there was time to work out how or why it was so successful. *That is LIFE.*

It's a long time ago and I only worked on smaller engines, but I remember it's always a nice fulfilling moment when all fits together and just works. Thanks for your videos and your inspiration.
So a complete engine strip down, improvement, and rebuild without any instruction manual. Fantastic to watch such effortless genius. I wonder how many HP the final engine will make 🤔
