    Never break them off. Cut them just under the soil so that shoot will regrow. Not sure why people break them off like that. I've been harvesting asparagus since I was a kid.

    my family home was built on an old asparagas farm in the San Fernando valley... 40 years later asparagas would still pop up I would break it off and eat it raw, delicious

    Thank you for sharing, This spring I planted green and purple crowns. Good to now I can safely harvest one spear from each crown next year. I was going to wait until after 3rd, year.

    seeds are cheap. if you have time it's the way to go you can buy 300 plants worth of seeds for less than twenty bucks
