I really appreciate the effort that the two of you put into teaching, here and in other videos. The overlaid instructions, split screen videos, and separate stills of the grips, for example, are really appreciated. Your dual efforts are much appreciated and valued.
I appreciate the instruction for GRIP!
Thanks Richard!!
I am so excited to see this video. Have been wanting to learn this!
Awesome!
Good info, Jordan. Comparing your swing path at 7:28 and 7:43, they don't look the same. Should we "get low and stay low," or bounce up, as you do at 7:43? Thanks!
Great teaching, I always thought this was a shot a 4.0 has to have. I have practiced this shot against a wall. Let me share that the ball comes back fast. So I found it as a follow-up , hit this shot, get paddle ready, and returned the return. It will speed up a person and help to be paddled ready. for whatever reason, we think a lot alike. your coaching is second to none.
Thanks Dave, Yes, you can do an attack followed by reset combination. That works well. Good discovery!
I think it is great to teach top spin both forehand and backhand. It is a very good weapon.
But, what i have not seen is how the receiver in the back court deals with the top spin.
Would be a very good video to point out how to fight of such aggressive top spin. Do you hit it flat?
Do you slice it? Do you return it with top spin of your own? As a advanced player i think it would benefit
the intermediate player to make a video on how to deal with the top spin when it gets to you. Just a thought.
Keep up the awesome video's.
Great suggestion!!
Love this . 🙏
Great video and instruction and camera angles!!!
Thanks 👍🏻
Thanks for talking and showing grips!
👍🏻
Good technical breakdown, btw I noticed on some shots you were moving away from the ball or getting to the side of the ball...
This is to create the best contact possible. You may have to slightly adjust your positioning to make sure that you have a good contact point that is not too close to your body, and also not too far away that you are reaching for the ball.
Awesome to know this as a beginner! Thank you🙏 Jordan! Hey are you part Filipino? Briones was a common last name in my old high school more than 50/years ago😀
Yes. Awesome lol
This is excellent!
😊
As always a nice break down of the grips and the strokes used to do the topspin Volley at the net/NVZ line.
Keep the knees bent esp. if you’re tall. Thx!
👍🏻
Where do you film these videos? Where I live there are no empty courts.
Various locations. Most recently at the Oakland Hills Tennis Club in Oakland, CA. Very thankful to them. Yes, courts can be hard to come by.
I'm not sure if I'll have time to be changing grips when up at the net. The rallies and volleys go back and forth so fast. I usually just keep a continental grip at all times. But that's also because I have and Omni short handle paddle. I can't hold it normal like I would a tennis racket. Have to lay my pointer finger out on the paddle all the time. I'm getting a normal size handle paddle soon. Will have to experiment changing grips. How often do you guys change grips when up at the net?
Most advanced players change grips very often. Although most advanced players generally hold a continental grip up at the NVZ line, there are many times when they change grips to hit a particular shot. For example, if your opponents are at the baseline or in the transition zone, you will have more time to switch grips, even if they decide to hit the ball hard. It only takes a fraction of a second to change your grip, and when you get good at it, it becomes second nature.
Can you show this technique when the ball is coming over the net at a higher trajectory and you are trying to hit down with topspin ?
If the ball is way over the net and you can contact the ball above the net, you can hit with a more downward motion and hit it more flat.

In this video I practice hitting high forehands and backhands at the NVZ, which you may be referring to.
I play with players who are bangers. The tend to hit the ball very hard and stay at the baseline. I am not a good blocker so returns usually go long so I get back more hard balls. Can I use this shot in this case or what else would you recommend.
Yes, there are two main ways to beat a banger that likes to stay at the baseline. Either continue to hit your volleys deep into the court at their feet until they miss, or try to draw them up with short volleys, to force them into a dink game. Either way, you will have to improve your volleys.

Can you do a breakdown on purchasing a paddle.
Not sure what you mean by this ?
@@primetimepickleball How to purchase the right paddle for your skill level and ability. There seem to be a lot of choices!
Great idea!
So if you use a basic continental grip which is not recommended for this stroke? I use a continental. Are you saying switch to an eastern style just for this shot? Is there enough time to switch grips like that?
If you use a continental and it’s working for you then there’s no need to change. I do at times also hit it out of continental if I’m short on time so time does matter. I switch to Eastern if I have a little more time because I can get a little more pop on it that way since your hand is behind the paddle a bit more.
I see you use the Encore MX 6.0. You like it? Also, they have a standard handle and skinny handle. What are your thoughts on both of those and do you have a preference?
I love it! The grip is preference. I kind of like the thin handle, and if I need to, I can build it up to be a little thicker.
@@primetimepickleball Thanks. And great videos man. These are fantastic.
😎
I hope my question is not too off base, but I noticed that you spin your paddle in your hand, every once in a while. Is that a conscience act? You make it look very natural, and I cannot do it.
Is that paddle spin in your hand something that you have practiced? People want to know.
I “practiced” this from playing years of tennis! 🎾 😊
I started doing this a little bit because I saw Jordan doing it in his videos, and noticed that it really reduced how sweaty my hands get. Now I do it all the time!
