2 Pickleball Shots 5.0s Use The Most! (& How You Can Too)
One of the main skills that separates high level players from low levels players is the ability to receive an incoming shot that has speed on it and send it back slower than it came in, and keeping it short in the court and low crossing the net. It requires great feel and ball control to hit with such precision.
Where does this skill show up in pickleball?
It shows up on primarily two shots. These are must have shots if you want to be competitive at the 4.0 and above level.
They are the drop and the reset.
Advanced players end up hitting these two shots the most as compared to any other level of play simply BECAUSE they are two of the most difficult shots yet the also happen to be two of the most helpful shots. Advanced players generally have the highest level of skill and control on their shots so they are the most capable of hitting these 2 shots whereas other players end up missing these early and often or opting for an easier option like hitting back hard because they’re afraid of missing even though it’s often a less effective option.
Let’s dive deeper into why these shots are so effective and how you can ramp up the amount of times you’re using these shots and making them which basically by default will make you a more advanced player.

Lethal Speed Ups In Pickleball That Produce Winners (Like A Pro!)

So what do players that are very effective at speeding up the ball do? Of course proper target selection, accuracy, speed and spin play an important role so you’ll definitely want to practice speeding up the ball correctly on both the forehand side and the backhand side. Great concepts here- combination of mental and physical part of the game. As I progress in learning pickleball, countering is next after getting over the fear of bangers! With the onset of longer paddle handles- do you change your grip or grip location when doing a defensive block or offensive counter ?

    Riley's positioning of low and wide with forward leaning upper body and paddle far enough in front plus high enough seems to buy him more time to adjust, watch ball into paddle, swing compactly with contact in front and quickly back to ready. I struggle with that ready position so lose time, get off balance and lose eyes on ball. Great to see it done correctly to be more ready and balanced so more able to watch the ball.

    Very basic and simple rules which are great. However you said you need a 2 bounce rule between server and return. You advise the non serving player to get to the non return zone which I understand. But what happens if the opposite teams returns the ball toy partner who is in the position to return a volley because of your advice. Should they let the ball bounce and attempt a return or should they play they volley because they have got themselves in a position to to return it? If they should avoid returning then your video should advise both players staying in the.touchline until it has been returned. I want to commend you for an excellent demonstration of the sport but 😁 lesser advise the benefit of a forward player in a 2 bounce situation from serve

    I guess the big question is whether we should be changing grip throughout a game, during a point? I tend to use a slice return on my backhand, as it is an easier shot to play - especially if using a continental grip. But is there enough time to see the serve (or any shot for that matter) is coming to my backhand to change grip and deliver a top-spin shot?

    • @primetimepickleball
      @primetimepickleball Před 15 dny

      Often there is enough time and sometimes there's not. Pros are constantly making grip adjustments. Use a grip shift to your advantage when there's time.

    you missed the main reason for the increase in power. It comes from your off hand, if you notice in the more powerful shots, his off hand followed the ball much further twisting his hips and shoulder and then the follow through you can see his left hand finish much further away twisting his core. All your power comes from the kinetic chain starting in your off hand/arm

    Great video. Muchas Gracious. My 1st issue is I was not turning my torso for backhand shots and pulling/injuring my shoulder. My 2nd issue I was not hitting the ball in front of my body, but rather on the side of my body and this was causing me to lose tracking of the ball and to lose speed/reaction time to hit the ball.
