- Geoguessr - World City Wednesdays #5 - Stockholm!
World City Wednesdays continues with the classic Scandinavian city, Stockholm. This city of 1.5 million strong Swedes has been highly requested on my channel. Sweden is the birthplace of Geoguessr after all.
As usual I'll be trying to achieve a perfect score, beating who ever lies at the top of the high score table in the process.

Vägen = Road
Gatan = Street
Kiss puss, puss puss kiss.
Jag som Sumpanbo sitter och skrattar åt söndböbörg
Actually vägen = the road and gatan = the street
Jag är svensk
Fast vägen kan också vara ”way” väll? Låt mig visa dig vägen, let me show you the way
Carl Jonas Love Almqvist was one of the most famous swedish writers of the 1800s. Despite this he was poor and lived a miserable life. He got in trouble with the law and fled first to the USA then Germany where he died a year later.

Three years ago we spent two whole weeks in Stockholm (with a few day jaunt up to Åre in the middle) and it was the greatest city I've ever visited. Easy to get around, delicious food, wonderful people... must go back. And Tom, you really have to go.
Not the most interesting parts of Stockholm but still cool to see the city I'm living in

Had hoped for some ghettos where the Google car would get attacked. :)

28:00 poor dude!
lmao
I don't know if other countries do this, but in Sweden we have "orientation" during physical education classes up until 9th grade. Basically go out in nature with a map and find different locations. I found it quite fun, might be the reason I enjoy this channel, who knows.
This map seems to be a lot of western stockholm (when I played it too). Also, he needs to get better at seeing subway stations both on the map and in street view.
Nice vid. Especially when i myself live in Stockholm! Keep up the good vids man!
I went to Stockholm for New Years last year. Gorgeous city, especially around Norrmalm and Gamla Stan. Admittedly it is quite an expensive city but it's worth a visit
Haha first stop was my old home street! And yes, Vägen means street/road.
Carl Jonas Love Ludvig Almqvist (28 November 1793 in Stockholm, Sweden - 26 September 1866 in Bremen, Germany), was a romantic poet, early feminist, realist, composer, social critic, and traveler.
Hope to see more diverse world and the like in the future. Those are the most interesting videos that show off your insane insight
I'm swedish, I have been enable to speak pretty much fluent english since I was 11 I think... Great video btw
Edit: K so I'ma make this real simple, Swedish ≠ German. Not the same, we pronounce things waaay different
Carl Jonas Love Ludvig Almqvist was a romantic poet, early feminist, realist, composer, social critic, and traveler.
this made me so happy to see places i havent been to in ages bc of covid. also wonderful to see it in the summer ;D
Great video, keep up the great work
You can see my old high school at 26:32. I'd definitely be commuting to school on that subway train (and across the Traneberg bridge) every day. Fältöversten is a shopping center (with apartments on top of it), I used to go there a lot when I lived nearby for a short time. You're spot on in that "vägen" means "road" or "way" (though technically it means "the road" or "the way", since most Swedish street names are in definite form). "Gatan" means "the street". A shame you didn't get to see some of the more nicer, older areas of Stockholm (apart from Karlaplan). Oh, and it's not the sea or a river. It's a lake (that flows out into the sea).
@@Freddan123 Indeed! Wanted to attend Kungsholmen due to their English language programs, but my grades just weren't good enough for it (this was back in 2000, not sure how it all works now), so my other option was Thorildsplan, which also had English language programs but not the same grade requirements.
@@HeathenMaiden Kungsholmens Gymnasium is were I went. But that was before "mergering" with Musikskolan. Waaaay back in time!
Trötta thorildsplan ändå. Det saknar man inte.
I went to Thorildsplan from 2011-2014, the low grade requirement definitely shows on the quality of the school... :)
OMG that's my school too! Hadn't started yet when this video was made but really cool to see nonetheless. I graduate in a couple weeks. Don't know what it was like back in the day but my experience attending it has been mostly positive so I have to assume it has approved over the years since y'all attended.
Thank you for playing my country!
That last one was literally right next to my school, Thorildsplan Gymnasium. That's pretty cool.
Vilken inriktning? Går där nu ja

Well done! You should do a lot more Sweden maps considering GeoGuessr is a Swedish sajt :)
20:58 Yeah... Stockholm have nearly 50 different bridges for you to choose between so I wouldn't recommend guessing this early.
7:40 Nissan GT-R
Finally my hometown! :)
Edit: I also happen to live around Karlaplan so it was a delight to see. Fältöversten is a rather small shopping mall on karlaplan :)
I would like you to do Helsinki, London or Tokyo!
Good content anyway!!
Anyone noticed the motor cycle crash at 28:00?
Yay finally my home town!
Do Edinburgh or Glasgow next please :)
Do Helsinki! Mariehamn or the whole Aland island could be fun too.
There's plenty of bars in Stockholm with cheap prices for your standard lager!
Yeah, all he needs to do is ask for the closest sunkbar.
Naa not really tho if you compare it to england. Even in bigger cities like london you'll find craft beer on tap for as cheap as 4-5 pounds per pint.
Fältöversten means like field colonel (an army rank) and is a shopping mall and the name of that house quarter of which it resides
Do Helsinki!
A map of only Sweden would be fun to watch also! Sweden is a beautiful country. My home contry but still.. 😉
I'm Welsh and live in Sweden! Would love you to do one on Cardiff!
You can travel with the trains in town. You can buy 3 or 7 days ticket by SL and you can travel by busses with it too.
I love geoguessur but for me at least it was having multiple people competing with a back and forth dialog which made it fun.
Can you change the category from Gaming to something else? My school blocked everything under that category. Thanks!
@@user-ez8dg7hu9f I can play but not watch these videos.
Cool to see my own city on here, with your pointer hoovering over my area once or twice too. The subway/metro is something you definitely pay for. We are complete assholes when it comes to public transport, it's not super cheap and you don't really slip the payment. Beer prices are at the lowest 2,4£ and ranges up to about 6,4£. There are however a lot of nice bars and the city is lovely and touristly-friendly so you should definitely cash up some and then come for a weekend or so.
You were absolute right about us swedes :)
It would be great if you did Edinburgh!!
Do helsinki finland!!
we love you geoguessrwirzard, we understand your london quite well // swede
He is from Birmingham.
hejsan my fellow svenskar!
Hahaha, i go shopping in Fältöversten all the time, Its pretty wierd seeing your own building in someones youtube video!
Nice, love it!
Do Pittsburgh, USA next !
Please do this!
Can you please do Berlin next. I love your vids man!
Would love to see a Far east city next... Maybe Singapore or Tokyo
My sister lives at Valhallavägen, like 20 meters from where you stood!
(When you were on Valhallavägen)
That building in front of the last location is actually my elementary school!
Houses on Vetegatan are called "funkis" (for funktionalism, a 1930's architechtural "ism"). Fairly common in the Stockholm area.
Yeah, Lidnersplan area also funkis. Must say the variety wasn't all that fab, but well done finding the places!
Please do Tokyo next!!!
Funnely enough i actually do catch that train. Too wierd!
You could se a little small bit of the iland i live on. The iland is called Värmdö
Please do Gothenburg next!!
btw, love almqvist was a swedish author from the late 18th century i think.
edit:1793 according to wikipedia
Great video and great map, altough it'd be great with more of central Stockholm and Södermalm (which are beauties, more like Karlaplan which you were on - altough you went the wrong direction in terms of nice buildings), at least less of "Kungsholmen", where you got three, which imo is pretty boring. I actually live on Valhallavägen!
Also, the train is the metro which is used by almost everyone, it's pretty pricey though. You can "planka" (pass without paying) but that requires jumping over a rather tall gate and not being caught by the personell checking the tickets - used to be way easier.
Stockholm! Jätteroligt!
15:13 X-plan is always at the end of X-vägen as far as I know
Do Helsinki, Finland
Please do Hamburg, Germany! 🇩🇪 :)
15:01 How did he miss Karlaplan? He pretty much put his cursor on it's name on the map yet somehow he missed it?
Its pretty easy to get on that train actually thats the subway so all you need to watch out for is security
Whens helsinki coming?
Last one starts right at my old school!!!
I always love it when english speakers try to pronounce swedish words. It's probably as funny as when swedes try to pronounce names like Alnwick in Warwickshire. ;)
You're doing way better than most, though.
If you want to squeeze some more random facts into your head, the swedish Ä/ä is much closer to an E than an A :D
Fältöversten is a shopping centre, means "The Field Colonel."
Ahlmquist is a name, yes. Translates into something like "Wych elm branch"
Try Busan in South Korea. That's the ultimate challenge in my opinion.
Edinburgh please!
First (of course) btw do for finnish cities or smn like that
First lol....
It's probably the wors answer at yt now-a-day...
ps: 472nd i am :D
Ilmari Lamminpää oh Yeah Yeah
do Houston, Texas
Do Helsinki next
If you go to Stockholm, you can buy a beer on Södermalm for around 30 kr= 3 pounds
more like 2,50
Hello from Sweden

Do Aalborg! Or if not, Copenhagen
I work right around the corner of the first one 😅
Im swedish and genuinly interested in maps. but it has no correllation though haha
Do Helsinki next m8
A beer is about 9$, but if u go to "söder" theres beer for 5/6$
As A Swedish Person Im Already Loving City!
Oslo! i may be a swede but Oslo sure is a beautiful city
I go to three of those places daily :F
Almqvist is a surname but it means elm branch.
Love Almqvist is a full name, and love isn’t pronounced as it is in english and doesnt mean love.
Jag är också här och tittar. 🥰
Love Almqvist was indeed a person, Almqvist literary translates to "elm twig"
Yes its quite pricy in Sweden indeed. Our only saving grace in that matter is that at least it isn't as expensive as in Norway. With the exception of using public transportation which I believe is pricier in Sweden but good luck trying to ride for free.
In parts of Sweden it's easy to ride for free, Stockholm could be the hardest in the country
@@leob4403 Oh okay. I guess I'm too used to the 2 m tall sliding glass doors of Stockholm's commuter train stations.
@@ryttyr14 Trains are harder than buses in general, because there's staff on trains besides the driver. Some Stockholm commuter trains don't have staff onboard though if I recall correctly
Paris next week ?
No, I wouldn't say you were in any suburb. It's all downtown, albeit not the very centre. But places where I certainly couldn't afford an appartment.
I was offered a three room rental in Kristineberg for just over 3000:-. This was 15 years ago, but I reckon the rentals in that area are still cheapish for Stockholm city.
Hup City, Gettinburg
7:41 Nissan gtr
Gotta friend who lives on Lidnersplan
Edinburgh? :)
Yes!!
Djuuuuuuuuuu!💛❤💙
Do Helsinki, Vaasa, Turku, or Tampere!
I think Vaasa, Turku and Tampere are too small for this
Maybe do a tour of Rovaniemi as a ’Christmas Special’?

Yes i catch that train on my commute everyday! Yes i pay 25 sek (~3$) for a trip one way. However long.
