  • So many people don’t understand the differences between knee cartilage and a knee meniscus.
    This video describes both and tells you the differences in simple plain language.
    Often knee injuries develop slowly over time as the cartilage or meniscus gets damaged over time. Sometimes both get damaged at the same time.
    The good news is that both knee meniscus injuries and knee cartilage injuries are caused by the same root problems - muscle imbalances and poor movement.
    Also both meniscus and cartilage problems can heal and improve in 9 out of 10 cases. It’s not always necessary to have surgery for the cartilage or meniscus.
    Here are glute exercises you can work on to begin to fix the underlyling root problem:

    Nice video, really. I like your vibe and attitude. I have heard frequently that the cartilage is unlikely to heal if someone got fifties or sixties. In your opinion, is that true ?

    I think I have a meniscus problem but not sure. When I sit for a long time I have pain and need to slowly stand up.. if I walk a long time I have pain as well. Today I jumped out of a van and landed on my “bad” leg and had really terrible pain but after 10-20 seconds I could walk it off (limping a little).. right now several hours later it’s throbbing. I don’t have any sounds coming from my knee

    Aside from the normal (for some) crackling or roughness of the cartilage, is it possible to suddenly injure/tear the cartilage (not meniscus)? If so, would an MRI easily show a tear in the cartilage versus the meniscus?

    Doc....since few days I got knee pain , I noticed that its associated with something like pinching nerve at my back ...also I feel a tingling sensation at my right shin....I had a knee surgery last year but this pain is strang , is it steming from my back ?

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  Před 3 lety

      Hey Emad! So sorry to hear about your back problem and knee surgery last year :-)
      It sounds like you very well might have a problem in your back based on your tingling sensation in your right shin and pinched nerve feeling in your back. It could be that the knee surgery from last year started left you weak and walking abnormally. This could set up your back problem.
      Have you tried to do any exercises for your back?
      These 2 exercises might be right for you:

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  Před 2 lety +1

      Does it hurt Rapolas? If it doesn't hurt, then it's likely arthritis or a meniscus injury that is under control. You have the best chance at reducing the sound by strengthening the right muscles. Usually the glutes are a good place to start. Check out our playlists to get more help:

      @@epmanualphysicaltherapy It doesn't hurt at all whenever it cracks. I started having this problem after I got hit on the medial side of the knee. It's probably a Meniscus tear. How long till I can play basketball again? Thank you for responding.

    My knee cartilage is damaged and I was on medication for a month and complete rest as suggested by my doctor. I still feel pain after a month whenever I workout. Even normal plank hurts. Iam just 25..iam scared. 😰 what can I do. Please suggest.

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  Před 3 lety +3

      Hey P. Naaz! Sorry to hear about your knee cartilage damage :-(
      It sounds like taking that rest for a month calmed your knee down enough for you to want to try out exercise. That's good!
      Keep in mind that knee cartilage takes 6-12 months to heal enough to get back to doing everything you want to do without worrying about it getting worse.
      You likely need to fix some muscle imbalances and gradually load your cartilage so that you can make it stronger over time while allowing it to fully heal.
      There's some great exercises to start with here:
      Top 5 Glute Muscle Exercises For Knee Pain
      czcams.com/video/NXdCjT2QtJA/video.html
      If you are looking for more comprehensive help for your knee, the you'll want to learn about our 28 Day Knee Health & Wellness Boost Program. It's a 100% online and on-demand program with exercises, coaching and advice from Dr. David. Learn more about it here:

      Annette, it sounds like you've got some sort of cartilage problems. Might be the meniscus, or it might not...either way you've got to start doing the right exercises to get long term relief.

    what about clicking on the outside of my knee as it bends

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  Před 5 měsíci

      Hi Ak, it could be various things. We would need to perform a proper evaluation to determine what the root of the problem is. Both cartilage damage and meniscus tears can cause this. It's also known as crepitus.
