    Hey I just completed this same mod. However, I removed the black canister too. I routed the top hose from the air box to the crankcase vent, and of course plugged the bottom hose at the air box with the plug like you did. I could not believe the difference when I was done with this modification. The bike starts instantly, and the throttle response is amazingly better. Good video, thanks.

      Old post I know, but you want to keep that canister. It’s just an evaporative can that keeps oil from vaporizing and keeps oil in the bike. The CA models have another can that looks like a soda can and those ones you want to remove.

    Nice clear video, but I'm afraid you're mistaken that removing that part will improve performance. It is not a smog "pump", but simply a vacuum operated valve (ASV- air suction valve) that allows fresh air from the air box to enter the exhaust ports DOWNSTREAM from the exhaust valves to more completely burn unburned gases in the exhaust system. It in no way affects anything that happens inside the engine. People seem to confuse this device with the old EGR valves on cars which injected exhaust into the intake tract. Again, the ASV has no effect on anything happening inside the combustion chamber, only inside the exhaust system. Also, the ASV was used on all US XRs, not only California models.

    All good . . . however . . . I suggest NOT to put silicone on the cover plates. A very large area of that plate is exposed directly to the inner cylinder. That means a quarter-sized/shaped amount of that silicone will eventually enter into the cylinder. Other than that . . . perfectly done.

      Xrsonly kit specifically says not to use any permatex or gasket maker on the covers.

    Got a link for that ebay kit?

  • @socaladventuresdavidt2557

    I have uni intake and FMF power core 4 exhaust and about to de smog it once it gets here. I just got the sigma6 rejet kit. But my bike doesnt pop (unless warming up) and has great throttle response. Taking it to a mechanic to get it re jetted.
    Over way better with the smog delete?

    How tall are you, debating on getting this bike, I’m. 5’10. I legit used to own one when I was 14 lol but it had no title from the guy I bought it from so I eventually sold it and 10 years later now it all I think about..

    Did you have to rejet or change carb settings?

    • @KFLY67

      Johnnie McCann you don’t, only if you add an aftermarket high flowing exhaust that you do.

    I just did this to my XR650L. Biggest difference is the amount of ridiculous back firing while engine braking. I may put mine back to stock.

      Joe Mason needs to be jetted.

    • @imnew2nm324
      @imnew2nm324 Před 4 lety

      backfiring on deceleration means lean carburation. These Honda's come from the factory very lean as it is and any modifications make that much more pronounced, even installing a Uni Filter etc.

    Plates do not need rtv, not necessary.

  • @socaladventuresdavidt2557

    I just did mine today its 5/1/2020 and only capped off the vaccum line as u did. Other videos they plugged off more lines? But they were the California EPA models.... mine was bought new In NV.... i messed up and cut the vaccum line so it's like half on there since it's now shorter....should I cut the plug to fit or leave the extra?

    • @KFLY67
      @KFLY67  Před 4 lety

      SoCal ADVENTURES David T I would say cap off the vacuum line and make sure there are no vacuum leaks from it. If there is or some bad cut, maybe replace it as vacuum lines are cheep.

      @@KFLY67 k thx. Its half the line. I could go up where the T is and put the vaccum line cap there? I think

      Its for California emissions crap and chokes the engine.

    • @ch3kw4
      @ch3kw4 Před 6 lety

      Does the power increase when you remove it?

    • @missmymountain
      @missmymountain Před 6 lety +6

      It has no effect on power. It does not choke the engine. It's a placebo. It will reduce popping due to the excess fuel no longer being burned in the exhaust.
      There is no flow from the exhaust back into the intake. It only serves to introduce fresh air into the exhaust stream heading out of the bike to help burn any fuel leftover in the exhaust after combustion. The control valve is actuated by the change in pressure in the intake messenger hose attached to the intake side of the engine.
      It does remove a few pounds of weight and a whole lotta ugly though.

    all you had to do was cut n pinch the lines off the original plates and make some cheap plugs.....doesnt have anything to do with the way it runs, it's just ugly hangin there LOL
