- In a pinch could you use Jack Daniel's as a fuel to get to the nearest gas station? Today we will test 9 different combustable liquids in the engine of our new and beloved Ford Pinto, and we're gonna find out!
Are you or anyone you know going through a divorce? If so, i'm sorry to hear about it, but we'd love to help divide the assets.

you should name the car 'greg.' just lowercase and the period so it sounds underwhelming, and youd have to pause for a sec whenever you say its name because of the period
greg is Danny gonzalez' thing
"so we're going to take greg. On a hot lap of our local test track. Can greg. Be competitive against true racecars?

All those open -empty- containers of Ever clear?
That starter is the real MVP here
Literally said the same thing as we watched it do nothing but PERFORM
I was thinking the same thing about half way through. Like damn lol
One reason the pure methanol didn't work as well as the ethanol (Everclear) is that the stoichiometric air-to-fuel ratio is lower for methanol than ethanol (and ethanol's is even lower than gasoline). Pump gas has a stoichiometric AFR of about 14.7:1, ethanol has 9:1, and methanol has 6.4:1. If you restrict the airflow to the engine by, for example, applying the choke, or if you increase the size of the jets on the carburetor, it may run quite well on methanol or ethanol.
Yes definitely need to re-jet the carb for the different fuel types
Also, you’ll never get over 98% ish alcohol/methanol. Pure alcohol is so hydroscopic it will pull moisture from anything it comes in contact with. Including what you’re trying to distill it from.
@@856Dropout I think the limit is 96%, last time I checked. Could have been improved though.
@@potatosordfighter666 I didn’t know the exact number. Just that it was in the high 90’s
@@856Dropout If you use molecular sieves or salts you can get the last part out. Just need to keep it from being exposed to a high humidity environment before sealing it.
This feels like the early days of Mythbusters and I'm here for it lol
Yeah, I remember the episode where Jamie Hyneman drank wiper fluid.
Man, you took me right back to 2010 when you mentioned Mythbusters. :) Also, rest in peace to Mr. Imahara. Grant made the show run well.
this feels like something people would genuinely be testing in an apocalypse or something
"i swear im not fucking with you! everclear is a perfect replacement fuel in a pinch- of course theres gonna be problems but its better than ditching your ride, come back to find it gone or stripped"
Jack sparrow? Runs on alcohol and bad jokes
@6:47 - AHEM! That bottle was FULL when you bought it! 🤪
My friend fell asleep and drove a pinto just like that thru 2 telephone poles and still had to shut the engine off.

Call it The Bean Machine.
1. Because Pinto beans.
2. Because that thing is an absolute UNIT for running after sitting that long AND your tests... (not sure how long that engine's gonna last now though)
I think just "bean"
i think greg.
props to that starter lasting that long 🤣🤣
loved the video.
Some advice, install some sort of simultaneous fuel system it could be something as simple as a dripper into the carburetor. so you don't burn that starter and fly wheel up messing with the Alternatives you can start it on gasoline and then feed in the alternative fuel while the vehicle is still running instead of using the starter to try to start it on the alternative fuel to begin with
Those brothers are opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to creativity!
Never thought I would ever say this, but congrats on the Pinto, clean unit!
You should name the car "Pinto McPintoface"
I liked this one. Well done. An alarming amount of effort from you boys really.
Josh says: "Your engine oil is MINE!"
Should call the Pinto 'Fireball' 😊
You should name the car Josh. It's red and aged...like a fine Josh wine.
The tube for the rum was never inserted all the way from the beginning. I caught it, but I assumed you guys would take care of the issue off-screen.
Ive been wanting a Pinto ever since i was a kid. Idk what to name it, but I had to watch this video.

great job guys . interesting.
i love this video, such a great idea!
That 69% rum should be used for higher compression engines, it’s got a lower combustion rate
I run on Jack Daniel's, might as well see if my truck can too.
For the memes we need to name it pintomcpintoface
We need more videos like this. Lmao i havent laughed so hard in a hot minute
How about calling it "The Big Red Pinto Jelly Bean"? 🤣
I think after this video you should rename the pinto the the pint'o

Just name it the Pinto Bean. It's obvious. You can call it Bean for short.
Holy moly, I have been thinking about it since I was a child

I think you should just name it "Bean" 😂
I simply would not consume a beverage called Josh, that is the opposite of marketing. Obama impression on point
The how to edge ur car part had me weak✋😭😂
Yes. Generally you want to up the jets like 2 sizes on a a carburetor so it will burn alcohol instead of gas, But Jack is low proof and high sugar. so you might have to go up more, unless you plan to refine it, or add gass or more pure alcohol. It will run for a while, but the real problem is the sugar. Sugar Carnalizes when you cook it. if you think valve deposits are bad with cheap gas, Wait till youre cooking sugar in with youre cylinders .
Oh and for the record, its perfectly leagle to brew shine as a car fuel, but you have to add like 5 percent (i cant remember the exact amount) Gasoline to it, This makes it Undrinkable, and not taxable by the ATF.. It also means you dont have to discard the leads or trailers on the distill.
If youre brewing alcohol in the quantities needed to fuel a car, The ATF will find out, and its best not to have more than a couple of quarts of pure stuff lying around.
You should have used some NITRO METHANE. Nothing like the smell of nitro in the morning, sure the exhaust feels like mustard gas in the eyes and throat but that'll give that Pinto some pep.
If I remember correctly, aren’t the gasses actually toxic? Like respirator bad? I remember something about ken blocks honicorn v2 needing a full face helmet with fresh oxygen blowing in or something
@@lucassvedlund3851 A respirator would be a good idea, you won't last long in a nitro methane exhaust cloud, but as a kid at the NHRA dragstrip we only used hearing protection. All depends how close you are and which way the wind is blowing.
@@paul.phillips okay, then it was probably just so bad because that thing was spewing it out right in front of him and he could easily be in a cloud of it
The stories about older cars running on alcohol in a pinch were because the typical compression, ignition timing, and octane were generally different in those vehicles! You really could run an older vehicle (sometimes) on alcohol. Carburetor, of course, is necessary. Modern cars tend to absolutely not run on alcohol first and foremost due to ignition timing, even though a modern vehicle will adjust ignition timing based on the perceived combust-ability of the fuel it's receiving.
i’d be interested to know how hot the engine was with each fuel type

Ohhh the timing, 4 months ago! The supreme court just struck down the law against home distilling!
how about naming the car: "The Pinto Bean"
I will tell you from personal experience the alcohol percentage, or ABV (alcohol by volume), of a drink makes a HUGE difference in the drink's effects. For example, anything lower than 4% is impossible to get smashed on. You can chug a whole 12 pack in 2 hours and barely get a buzz. The excess water just flushes the alcohol out of your body and dilutes your blood enough to decrease any intoxicating effects. And even with beer, just a few fractions of a percent increase in ABV makes a significant difference in how drunk you get. For example, drinking Rolling Rock, which is 4.4% ABV, gives you a nice buzz and you get fairly intoxicated after drinking a few of them in a short amount of time. But Natural Ice is 5.9% ABV and drinking a few of those over a longer time gets you WAY more drunk. Get way more of a hangover too. Again that appears to be from the excess water in the beverages. Seems like It is not just the alcohol percentage that makes a difference, but the excess water in a drink with lower alcohol *decreases* the effects of what alcohol is in the drink in the first place. Now with spirits, going from 40% vodka to 50% vodka gets you SMASHED! Way more than the lower ABV stuff. It also gives you one HELL of a hangover and I was gagging on it a lot more. It also get you WAY more drunk on way less. Again, I'm suspecting the water content has something to do with it. Why am I talking about getting drunk on an alternative fuel for cars video? Well, why the hell not!?
should of tried this experiment on the taco bell McLaren 720s i see in the back ground 😎😂😂
what is stoichiometry and what are carburetors
hmmmmm.... i think theres quite the mixture in the carb bowls, so i think you should repeat this test but instead of jars, suck the carb bowl dry first and in between each liquid. it takes a bit of time for the bowl to empty once its been filled. check your ignition system too, the spark may not be strong enough to ignite less than ideal fluids like alcohol. cool video im looking forward to more!

GMTA. When the windshield washer fluid failed and he said "not enough methanol in it" I thought, ‘well, you could distill it. But they will never do that.’ And then they did. Awesome.
THE PINTO HAD A PINT, EY?
If you're not afraid of French, CZcams's channel @Vilebrequin has done two videos about that too, they're pretty fun and they're using a special mechanism to switch between fuel type.
Here are the two video titles:
"Rouler à la vodka / champagne / gel hydroalcoolique : ÇA FAIT QUOI ?" and
"Rouler à l'huile d'olive / kérosène / huile de vidange : ÇA FAIT QUOI ?"
dan, you're underrated.
That starter hates you guys
You can run a lot of flammable liquid in an carburator engine. You just have to adjust the carbonator and timing depending on the liquid/gas fuel. Your segment should be will it run without adjustment
"Matchbox" "Deathtrap" "Firecracker"
I wonder if tried making E85 with the everclear and some gas, it would work better. Then again IIRC cars that can run on E85 need to inject more fuel to compensate for the fact that it has lower energy density despite having an extremely high octane rating, so you'd probably need to run it a lot richer than normal to run smothely. That and probably a bunch of new fuel lines if you're going to do it for more than a few tests so they don't get eaten by the ethanol.
Was that a purple mclaren in the beginning!!
Me and my little brother were thinking the same thing! We think it’s a McLaren 720s as the back somewhat fits with the car in the video so nailed it with the McLaren!!
You have a good battery right there
Car name=ART
Name the car slat
Keith
Oh man what a beauty 🤤
Should name it pinto bean
Alcohol actually has lower energy density than Petroleum Gasoline. That's worth keeping in mind. Cars setup to run of Methanol are typically set to run a higher fuel to air ratio; in other words, richer.
Thank you for bringing my intrusive thoughts to fruition
French CZcams programm Vilebrequin that has now stopped for an undetermined duration of time broadcasting videos did this I think a year ago. With both gasoline and oil powered cars. Great to do that in english. You could do the same concept but for gasoline powered cars. Like they did. But in english.
Red bean lol
Name the car "Bean". Also drill out the carb jets, or re-jet it with roughly 20% larger ones. It should run better on everclear then.
Antifreeze doesn’t contain methanol. It’s got ethanol. But either way, they are both alcohols. But antifreeze and washer fluid are not flammable without distilling the alcohols out from the rest of the ingredients.
When the car is running then sputters on these, it’s just residual gasoline in the line/carb.
But the ratio of fuel to air is also different with alcohol based fuels. For example, the engine needs around 33% more fuel for the same amount of air with E85.
Would any of this work on a deisel car
You should name it, Penny, the pinto
