      Thanks for the comments...........really enjoy getting them and hearing from other GoldWing owners! And I'm biased, but I agree with you on what a great looking.....and performing....bike they are. I just took a 6-day (round trip) ride to Canada and turned 170,000 miles while doing it...and except for the cruise control not wanting to work...for the first time ever...all else went pretty smooth. Toward the end my gas mileage took a dump down to 25mpg, but I probably just got some bad gas or junk in the carbs. Did a quick tuneup after the ride and it's back up to 40+ mpg again. How long have you had yours?

      @twobikesandadrone  Před 11 měsíci

      I've had this Wing for 23 years and the only major thing I've had to do is to replace the universal joint, between the drive shaft and the engine. While I had it apart to do that job, I noticed that the splines on the driveshaft were slightly worn, so I replaced that as well, but I don't think it was absolutely necessary. But I had it apart already, so it was a good time to do that. I also had to replace the steering head bearing, which had caused the front end to wobble at low speeds. Other than that, it has only required the normal things that wear out like fork seals, brake pads, timing belts, plugs, fuel filters, cruise and sub-air filters.
      I chose to replace the front springs, and rear shock with the Progressive brand springs and shock, and I also replaced the brake lines with steel braided lines.
      I think that's about it.....LOL Thanks for leaving a comment! It's always good to hear from people who have watched any of my videos.

      @twobikesandadrone  Před 10 měsíci

      That was a few years ago but I'll do my best....LOL I think it just started making some strange noises, so I hit the various discussion boards online and it made sense to most that it was the u-joint, even though they rarely fail. There was some sort of special tool that I needed for the swingarm I think, and one of the fellow GoldWingers on the board offered to send me one to use.....and did just that. Is that cool or what? I can't remember just how difficult of a job it was, but I'm a shade tree mechanic at best, and with the help of my factory service manual I was able to get through it. And once I pulled it out, it most definitely was bad, since it rotated in one direction fairly smoothly, and not nearly as well in the other. That was at around 138,000 miles btw. I noticed while I had it all apart that the driveshaft splines were a little worn, so I got another one off eBay since it was all apart anyway. That's about it.

      @@BP-xe7dw thanks! I’ve always believed that Harleys and Hondas can peacefully coexist, and almost bought a ‘77 XLCR to test my theory. I should have bought that bike!! 1500 GoldWings don’t handle as well as the newer 1800s, but they ride smoother and they’re definitely bulletproof!! I didn’t hesitate to take mine on a 3-day ride up to Edmonton Canada last year…and I had the brand new GS that I could have taken. No comparison.

      @@twobikesandadrone I have no divisions when it comes to bikes. I always had European motorcycles and three years ago bought a Harley. It was a good deal. I literally fell head over heels over the bike. My friends were shocked. Not fast, it doesn't corner as well, loud, it shakes, but when I ride it, it just does something to your soul. I recently rode it from Seattle to LA in one day. Very comfortable with the back rest and the ability to move your feet around easily, adequate wind protection off your helmet and chest, you can ride for a long time. My other bikes pale in comparison when it comes to comfort. Honda has the reliability factor down beyond reproach. Ride safely my friend.

      Two. A longtime GoldWing mechanic once told me to change them every 10 years or 100,000 miles….whichever comes first.

    • @twobikesandadrone
      @twobikesandadrone  Před 2 lety +1

      Two so far. First time when the Wing was 10 years old (50,000 miles or so) and then again at 157,000 miles because it had been 100,000 miles since the last change. I was told by a longtime GoldWing mechanic that the GL1500 timing belts should be changed every 10 years or 100K miles, so that's what I've done and so far it has worked out fine.

      Have you subscribed to the channel yet? I'm posting a new GoldWing video this weekend, but I'll try to remember to include a look at the trunk and saddlebags in the next video after that. If you subscribe you should be notified when that comes out (make sure the notification bell is selected for ALL) but if not just check back and hopefully I'll remember to include it!! If not, remind me!!!

Bulletproof is the one word that defines the 1500, and they're pretty inexpensive now too. I'll try and do a quick Shorts video showing the trunk and saddlebags for you soon.
