  • Status Quo are an English rock band who play a brand of boogie rock. The group originated in The Spectres, founded by schoolboys Francis Rossi and Alan Lancaster in 1962. After a number of lineup changes, which included the introduction of Rick Parfitt in 1967, the band became The Status Quo in 1967 and Status Quo in 1969.
They have had over 60 chart hits in the UK, more than any other rock band, including "Pictures of Matchstick Men" in 1968, "Whatever You Want" in 1979 and "In the Army Now" in 1986 and 2010. Twenty-two of these reached the Top 10 in the UK Singles Chart.
In 1991, Status Quo received a Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music.
'Down Down is the 16th single of Status Quo. It is taken form the 1975 album 'On the level'. De single reached #1 in the UK, the Netherlands and Belgium, #2 in Switzerland and Ireland and # 7 in Germany.
This clip is in remembrance of Rick Parfitt who unfortunately died on Christmas eve, 24 december 2016. May he rest in peace.
This Toppop version was the first Toppop recording they did, on 7 February 1975. They also recorded ''What You're Proposing' in 1980 and 'The Wanderer' in 1984 in the TopPop studios.
Down Down is no. 890 in the Top 2000 of 2021!

This song is FOREVER! Super cool intro - flowing away into this main riff together with this super heavy boogie rock rythm. John's drumming it driving the song on and on. Bang Bang Bang. It is so hard to describe how i feel and always felt hearing this. I am totally freaking out immediately and have to play "Air-Guitar" or "Air-Drums". This definitely is their most legendary song in my opinion. Get on your feet - legs spread - banging and shaking all along the way. A super classic. Greater than great. The super long version of the original "On the Level" album is even greater. Greetings from germany.

During their 'transition' period from their psychedelic pop of the 60's, they had two hit songs in 1970.
Those songs were "In My Chair" and " Down the Dustpipe"
During 1970 & 1971 QUO produced 2 of their best albums.
They were "Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon" & "Dog of Two Head"
Those two albums managed to sell in some European countries & Scandinavia which kept the Band afloat financially until they exploded with "Piledriver" in December 1972.
For the next 10 years QUO were the best Rock Band in the Universe.
Sadly Francis Rossi's Cocaine addiction saw his behaviour cause an acrimonious division within the Band of Brothers.
After 20 years in the Band, John 'Spud' Coghlan left QUO, he was replaced by Pete Kircher whose Drum Kit sounded very inadequate with hollow sounding Toms.
Alan 'Nuff' Lancaster desperately hung on to the Band he formed and created in 1962.
Lancaster was very embarrassed by the direction Rossi was taking his Band.
Their "1982" album & "Back to Back" album in 1983 only had a couple of decent Rock songs on each.
When Alan left the Band that should've been the end of the road.
When the court case handed the name "Status Quo" in favour of Francis Rossi & Rick Parfitt, Alan Lancaster said it was "like having one of your children abducted and abused"
Alan told Francis not to come within arms length of him.
The demise of THE GREATEST & BEST ROCK BAND of all time is probably the saddest story in music history.
I read an article by a music critic who called Francis Rossi "THE ANTI-QUO"
After Alan & John left QUO, the music deteriorated atrociously.
1991's "Rock 'til you Drop" brought some respectability to their name.
It wouldn't be until 2002's "Heavy Traffic" that another good album would wear the name of Status Quo.
From then onwards they produced some very good Rock albums.
    I mean extremely good albums.
    RIP - Alan "Nuff" Lancaster
    RIP - Rick "Reg" Parfitt

Rossi couldn't have written the songs without their unofficial member Bob Young.
Rossi wrote the lyrics and the very handsome Bob Young wrote the music.
The Rossi/Parfitt songs are some of their best.
Status Quo had several co-writers that contributed to their success.
Bernie Frost co-wrote some great Quo songs and some awful songs as well.
Andy Bown also co-wrote some great Quo songs.
Even Pip Williams co-wrote some good Quo songs and some shockers.
90% of their 'QUO' album in 1974 was written by Parfitt/Lancaster.
"Is There a Better Way" & "Rolling Home" are written by Rossi/Lancaster
Just because Rossi was a major song writer for QUO doesn't redeem him for destroying them.
Remember that Rossi is primarily a lyricist that relies on others to write the music.
Yes, he did write "Matchstickmen" in its totallity, great song from 1968.
The fact that Rossi can and did write great Rock songs for QUO and then steered them in a totally different direction makes him a traitor to the fans and to himself.
The first person that Alan Lancaster recruited for his Band in 1962 was his classmate Francis Rossi.
The QUO story is rife with ironies and hypocrisy.
Some people think that "This is Spinal Tap' is based on QUO's story.
If Shakespeare wrote a story about the tragic demise of a Rock Band it would be about STATUS QUO.
