The TLX is so underpowered. At 4200 lbs it needs at least 450 horsepower
@@layne4376 it would if it was a true 400 like the Germans do, but it would still be around 300-400 lbs heavier. You need a better reason than a couple of thousand difference to make it worth buying in my opinion.

I agree, needs a tune and a bigger turbo to get ahead of the competition. Acura/Honda like to play it safe and go for reliability. Still a great, fun car and I'd prefer it even if it is just a little bit slower for now. Once my lease is up I know I'll be able to get plenty of power and have even more fun with it and it'll last

Great fun that day. The C43 was so so fast. I'm sure it was stock but it didn't feel stock just based on my visit to Gapistan. Either way. Love ripping my Q60 when given the opportunity and given the choice I'd still pick it over a Merc c43. Thanks again Sam for the opportunity to come out and race.

The TLX's biggest issue is the weight. I am not saying it would have taken the AMG with 200 lbs shaved off but it could be a little more closer. I hate it that Acura products have gotten so heavy in recent generations. Of course reliability wise, Acura all day.

It really is....an Acura wearing the Type S badge should be able to compete with these other cars. Unfortunately, Honda/Acura is really not doing much to keep up with the competition (from the stock perspective).

The standard Acura models are good cars. The Type-S MDX and TLX are cool, but the value is way diminished. They’re really also ‘sportier’ versions rather than all-out sports cars.

I love Acura and have owned several but when is Acura going to get serious about performance like they advertise?? Acura’s are beautiful and reliable but I now drive BMW or Porsche because I want the joy of driving!! Are my repair costs higher? Yes. But the driving experience is worth it. And, an M340i is the legit competitor to the AMG. Honorable mention to the infinity! Nice video!!

The Type S should have just been the A-Spec This car is definitely not worthy of a Type S badge. .
I feel like Type S is such a letdown. It came after Kia Stinger, Audi S4, Infinity Q50S but didn’t do its homework right. Acura also asks top dollar for it which doesn’t make sense. Honda could have offered a cheaper Accord version for less and at least dominated the market, but they chose not to. I don’t know how their marketing department works.
The TLX Type S is a beautiful car. Shame it really isn't as quick as the competition. Even with the same power numbers.

Everyone keeps speculating the C43 must be tuned, but I think this came down more to driver error on that Infiniti. A Red Sport should have put down a much bigger gap on the TLX, especially in those rolling races.
Should’ve gotten Burnt Type S for this one. Good runs however
So depressing. Acura got everything right except power-to-weight 😭
In the end, put some mods to that TLX more boost, and you got same acceleration and the best reliability of three.

I was torn between these two. I went with the C300 2015 over the Q50 3.0T lux. Im glad i did because with a jb4 it can beat my friends q50 stock. Same speed with a better interior. Infiniti needs to upgrade the interior would be a bang for the buck if they did

The Type S is really just designed for folks who want a TLX/MDX but with a bit more performance than the base trims provide. The problem with the TLX version is that the 2.0T can be brought up to Type S performance with off the shelf performance parts/tunes.
Should be interested to see what a developed aftermarket will do for the Type S….hopefully without compromising its rock solid quality (something missing with the competition).
The TLX-S already has various power mods available. Consequently, the 2.0L will never be as fast once the stops are pulled with mods. The 3.0L block was built a lot stronger and can handle a lot more power than the 4-banger motor.
@@Snookynibbles time will tell on the J30AC as it’s an entirely new motor, whereas a) the K series turbos have been out for a while and b) the inline 4 is Honda’s bread and butter.
As for K20 potential, you just need to review the actual performance already demonstrated by the Accord 2.0T guys.
Realistically, it’s not so much the motor as it’s the tranny. The beefed up tranny of the Type S should (in theory) be the Type S strong suit versus the 2.0T/Accord, not so much the motor.
Infiniti interior is way behind the other two and the transmission in the Infiniti is it’s downfall. I really hope they use a better one in the next generation of their cars but considering the New Z in auto uses the same transmission I doubt it.
Q60 has been cancelled and the new Z has a 9-speed auto compared to the 7-speed in the Q50/60.
@@bigd7386 I know the Q60 has been discontinued. To clarify I meant they were using the same style of transmission which is a traditional torque converter style and not a dual clutch style. I know The ZF BMW uses is also a torque converter but it seems to perform much better . I was just hoping they wouldn’t use the Older version of the Mercedes derived Jatco .
Acura lovers always complain about Sam and “Driver mods”. Has nothing to do with this. Even Mario Andretti isn’t saving the Type S.

I agree. The Q60 I like but is not a car for adult males unless it's a second vehicle. The merc will only last a couple years before you're paying through the nose for maintenance. The type s is easily the most attractive car, it's just not an overwhelming performance machine. Who buys this car to drag race? It's a family sedan with a little extra ooomph for dad. All these guys spamming hate are either really underdeveloped 40 yo men, or twenty year old guys who don't have a family and want a race car. Buy something else, then.

Acura completely bombed on the new tlx. Looks nice but that’s all it is. Too heavy and under power. I like the Infiniti but it’s outdated. Needs a nice update. Nice cars but rather have a bmw m340.
I have said this before and saying it again. Anywhere you see a Type S race video, there is a 90 to 98 percent chance of it losing.

Only in a drag race. Arguably when considering all the other features including handling, it’s the better car. Plus there are already power mods available. A commercial engine builder claims the new Honda 3.0 L 6-bolt main caps engine block is strong enough to possibly handle triple the stock h.p. The car will continue to sell well as-is and remain on the road long after the other two visit the crusher…it’s a Honda.

CT5-V feels quicker from launch but C43 is quicker at quarter mile, at end of the day, they are very different in size and weight. I hate c43's handling, even worse than the base v6 RS Camaro I owned before.

I already knew what the outcome was gonna be before watching lol as I am a GLC 43 😉 the shifts in the mercedes are brutal in sport+ for a V6 and the transmission shifts almost as fast as a dct. The c43 is right in the middle of the Acura and infinity as far as power and weight, it's heavier than the infinity but lighter than the Acura and has less power than the infinity but more than the Acura but has more torque than both of them and the best transmission.
From this result, Acura is in a different 'weight' class, not even competitive...

It will always be far lower than the outright purchase price. Infinitis & Mercedes have a legacy of service, design & quality issues baking them more expensive to maintain. People forget the “total cost of ownership” represents your real cost, not simply purchase price. The Type S is a good value.
When Mercedes puts AMG on their car doesn’t matter if its a 4 cylinder or not, it means business. Amazing performance from the world leading true luxury brand.

If the used car market ever settles down, a nice, low miles Q60 AWD with a JB4 would be such a good deal. They are great cars. They should be a good value, but we know how things have been the last few years. Oh man, The TLX-S is such a HUGE disappointment. I like everything about it except the performance. I don't think these have even been successfully tuned yet? The Q60 can be made to be VERY fast, lots of support....

@@jpizel1070 this platform truly isn't "sporty". There's 2 types of PS on these cars, traditional EPS and dynamic EPS. Avoid the latter. However, I think as a turbo GT car they are pretty good. And reliability is good too. I'd rather drive a BMW, I'd rather own a Q60. Since I own cars long term after warranty, I'm choosing the Q60 which is less dynamic than the German options
Never buy a sports car used!they are 95% brutally driven already by previous owners because is a SPORTS car...! Buy sports car only new if you can afford and used a non-sports car!
With those numbers on HP and weight the Q60 should have been much closer, I suspect a tune on the AMG. Regardless just for style and looks alone I'll take the Q60 all day.

There is no way that C43 is stock! I have driven one, and it's not any faster than the Q60RS, especially from a roll. The Q60RS is easily the fastest car out of these three.

LOL, I own the AMG C43 but I had mine professionally tuned adding 165 ft-lbs of TQ and 125 HP to the wheels for $1500… Running 12.1@116mph now at 1/4 drags. Funny seeing how even stock it roasts the competition

I really need a tlx interior in the q60. Q60 is so good outside but why 2000 feeling inside. Tlx has nsx vibe inside but just not fast enough.

The transmission in the C43 and proper launch control from the factory plays a HUGE role in the dig races. Look at the C43 from a roll as well. That transmission is insane compared to the Q60 7AT slushbox. If these 3.0T infiniti had a DCT, it would be a lot closer. Good races otherwise!!
Yea, tend to agree. The only Infiniti owners that are not ok with these results; are those that think they're the fastest cars out there. I love my Q's after having the 50 and now the 60 in this video, but hell, I know their limitations and yes, its super frustrating. Popping in a better transmission could have been done but choices were made by Nissan and here we are. I don't put a lot of stock into those proclaiming how they walk C43s with no link to evidence. Nevertheless, there is an underlying sense though that this particular C43 was not stock. Last year in my Q50 we did an off camera run against another C43 of this era and it was a lot closer then this display.

It’s a great transmission, no wonder Nissan is using it on the 400z and the upcoming Q50/Q60 if they update it.
The C43 doesn’t have Launch Control though, it doesn’t allow you to build any boost on “launch” it’s actually the worst in that regard out of all these cars.

@@KevinQ50RS I thought that too, I Test drove one about 2 years ago and was wondering why I couldn’t activate it. Even the c300 let me build boost on launch and allowed me to get the revs up to 3k. The c43 had some Limited at 2k and didn’t build any boost. It would be much quicker if it allowed you to build boost
A beautiful car the TLX is ,they nailed the design but such a huge disappointment performance wise. It needs at least 400-450hp or less weight.

It’s because the newer cars are much larger than 90s cars , way more technology and comfort in the interior but the main weight gain is safety from air bags to crash support.

c43 4 doors is around 3750-3800 pounds not 4000 pound its the 2 door version that 4000 pounds
Mercedes had one significant advantage over the other cars----aggressive transmission tuning. If you tuned the other cars as aggressively, can their transmission handle it?

I own the exact same c43 and let me tell y’all, that lb ft of torque is no joke. It’s puts down the power so damn fast! Off launch I smoke 95% of cars on the road. I’ve raced a lot of cars with more hp, but that 9g tronic transmission shifts nice and quick in that little amg. So underrated.

The 7 speed auto in the Q is really its biggest downfall
The Type S is as quick as the turbo 4 variants of the European cars it competes with, at least it also costs the same as those cars......if it costs as much as a C43 AMG I would be more disappointed. They really needed this to be either lighter or more powerful to compete directly with the best in this class. Even the super dated IS500 needs almost 500hp to run with the C43.....

The infinity and Mercedes should be closer. I’d suspect the Mercedes is not stock. The Acura had no chance as it was well below the others and we know Acura didn’t underrate their numbers .

The last time a 3rd vehicle outperformed the other two so drastically , we all knew it was tuned.
Go to the drag strip and see what two similar cars with about a 50 hp difference . We are talking a few mph and tenths of a second relating to half a car or full car.
When a car leaves by a car length and finishes by 4 + car lengths you have to suspect something.
Then on the roll race, it was closer. Which would be opposite of the HP was higher. If a car is AWD like the Acura , it’s where it shines . That’s why the Acura most of the time wins the take off and loses the race.

Mercedes is known to underrate their cars, odds are it makes closer to 400 whp than the Q
And if that’s the case then im spot on. The Q is prob about 360-370 to the wheels while that c43 is what 385? German is next level for performance but those Q’s can be a 4 four gtr with a little work😅

The c43 is 6 tenths quicker in the quarter mile than a q60 redsport. So these are stock, and the gap makes sense.
I owned a q50 red sport and I beat a c43 AMG by a 1 car length from a dig and roll
@@VERY_RAREQ50RS that’s cool, I’m just going by the actual test figures done by car and driver. Stock c43 runs a 12.7 vs a stock q60rs runs a 13.3. Big difference mate.
I have seen these stock cars race before and I can categorically say that c43 is either tuned or there’s an issue with q60. Difference in performance is very suspect. I think it’s the former than later!
