2024 Acura TLX Type-S Review / Much more fun as a Type-S

  • When the current generation Acura TLX was introduced, I didn’t like it very much. I found it comfortable for daily commutes but it didn’t live up to the sporty driving characteristics that modern Acura vehicles are advertised to have. Fast forward a few years and the Acura TLX now has a bunch of Type-S badges on it. So does the addition of a Type-S badge help the TLX like how it did the Integra Type-S?
Under the hood, the Acura TLX Type-S does away with the turbocharged 4-cylinder engine of the regular car. It is replaced by a 3.0L turbocharged V6 with a single turbo, not twin-turbo. Power output gets bumped up to 355 hp & 354 lb-ft of torque (265 kW & 480 Nm). With a fairly hefty curb weight of 1,945 kg (4,221 lbs), the 2024 TLX Type-S can sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h in about 5 seconds.
The 2024 Acura TLX Type-S will cost you $63,750 CAD ($57,000 USD). That is the only price this car has because the only options are paint colours and any accessories that you may want to add onto it. It is a fully loaded car.

I don’t think the standard TLX is boring at all. I do believe we spend way too much time comparing a performer version to a “regular” version and because of that, people tend to take away the fun factors of the regular version. Is the Type S better? Without a doubt however, I owned a 21 TLX A-SPEC and I loved it. That 4 cylinder turbo charged engine isn’t slow. I now have the 23 TLX Type S and love it even more. I think both versions are great

Im in a divide when it come to getting one. I feel maintenance will be better for the 2T but weight to power worries me that if i do too many uphill drives (which i may do more than often cause of work) the engine will stress more than it needs too and the brakes holding up a 4k pound car worries me

A quick plug.. I have a '24 aspec and it is absolutely a lot of fun with 0-60 in the 5s plus it has all the handling as the type s but with fog lights not on the S and better gas mileage...all for over $10k less. That said, if you want the 80 more hp, you will pay that premium for the V6. It's all in what your requirements are. Nice review!

True, this Type-S may not be for everyone. But you're not just paying for the extra power, there's also the bigger brakes, adaptive suspension, faster steering, tires & wheels, & different transmission tuning.

Unless it’s tuned your a spec is absolutely not 0-60 in the 5s range. The TLX Type S is actually 0-60 in that time. The a spec has been tested at 0-60 6.5

I really like your review style. As someone with a bad back, I particularly appreciate that you include a segment dedicated to comfort. So many other reviewers barely cover that topic with some completely ignoring it.

I'm really hoping they switch to the touchscreen for 2025. It shouldn't be too much of a change...

Agreed! If the MDX is getting it for 2025, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible in this TLX as well.

For the upmost in unreliability and expensive repairs the BMW M340i and the Audi S4 will be the better option! And you pay for that crap poor reliability upfront because the BMW M340i and the Audi S4 actually cost significantly more when you buy and spec them out accordingly🤣

M340 isn’t unreliable. You will have more issues in TLX. Ask every TLX owner who switched to a 340.
