    I have the same color, but in the Color Shift version, not the Imagine line, but the plain Color shift, and that version is oil based, just an FYI to anyone who is thinking of doing this. There's a few different versions of Rustoleum color shift paint. Getting ready to start my bass here this weekend, can't wait to see how it turns out.

    Just a note: If you aren't a radio or voice over artist, you should be. Very clear distinctive voice. Great looking guitar. I was looking for "Rose-Gold" and found this, this is far better.

      Thank you a ton! I have thought about starting a stories channel, this may be the kick in the butt to do it.

    Excellent! You really put a lot of effort in this and it shows. I'm going to try this paint 🍾 Champagne Pink on some household items. PS I find upside down soda cans are an excellent 👌 way to keep a project elevated off the cardboard. Plus it's fun to drink from funky cans.

    I know it's an old video but just some things I noticed.. The crackling was from either conflicting paint types, or sprayed on too heavy too fast. The name of the game with spraypaints (not so much automotive paints in a gun because they use a different type of off-gassing to cure and have hardeners) is light even coats, and when I say light coats I mean LIGHT coats. You want to have to do at least 3 coats of base color minimum on a properly prepared surface. You might of painted the primer on too thick and it wasn't fully cured when you started painting with the color, causing the primer to re-soften and start pulling in on itself, laquor tends paint tends to do that if you don't paint layers 15-30 minutes apart LIGHTLY or wait 7-10 days for cure time. The color shift paints can be deceiving to paint with because they are THIN coming out of the can, their pretty much a pearlescent sparkle being sprayed on with a clear/semi clear filler, that's why you need to paint them over a black base coat to give it depth. So with paints like that I would bump the 3 light coat theory to around 6-8. Also I know you did it primarily because of the crackling but never, NEVER sand over any type of metallic/sparkle paint, it will cause imperfections and issues with follow up layering unless you just hose it down with the base color repeatedly to hide the sanding, but then you will have inconsistencies in the depth of the paint in that area you will need to make up for by using even more clear coat at the end stage so you can buff it down and level it.
    Also I say this from experience rattlecanning a motorcycle from front to back, so just sharing experiences, it turned out AMAZING in the end but that was primarily due to the 2K crystal clear paint I used, you can make ANY rattlecan job look good if you use a clear coat with a PROPER hardener in it. Your axe still turned out beautifully and I LOVE how the Pink Champagne looks, I'm appreciative of the video because my next bike I'm thinking of painting with this color but struggled to find a good video actually showcasing how it looked in all stages, especially with a clear overtop. Most people just use it for crafts to it's the paint and nothing else, giving it a much more faded and matte look. Thanks again!

    A great finish on that guitar. I’m thinking of doing the same to my old Ibby with a broken neck. Also noticed some botched wiring on some pick ups that’ll have to re-solder.

      When you take them apart, it always feels great to make a bunch of changes and get a guitar to play and look juuuust the way you like. This is my current favorite to sit and stare at lol plus it sounds great. Thanks, keep me posted on your project. A refin takes time but is so worth it.

    Nice! I’m trying to create a nissan gtr r34 midnight purple III color. I’m planning on using a mixture of the purple sunrise color and this. Do you think it would make sense? If it does, how many coats should I put of each (This might be weird but I’m doing it on LEGO also)?

    • @DoubleDguitar
      @DoubleDguitar  Před 5 měsíci

      Whoa, quite the project! That is interesting that you want to mix them, would they be next to each other or blended? I needed to get a large number of coats to completely cover the black and get the full shift effect. Plan on at least 4-6. Maybe less if you are more thorough than me. 🤣thanks for checking out the vid

  • @mikedillon6888

    Do you think if you had done a pink metallic undercoat.. this would allow the color shift to get to pink faster? This stuff is up to 20 a can and would prefer to not buy 5-6 cans

    • @DoubleDguitar
      @DoubleDguitar  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Whoa, that’s expensive. I found it for much less at a craft store. They recommend a dark paint for the most shift. Almost any black will do, as long as it is a similar base.

  • @gabedestellano
    @gabedestellano Před 5 měsíci +1

    It would help to hang your guitar or anything you're painting so you can get around it. I did a jag-stang with the same paint, took 2 cans and one can of clear. Throw your coats 15 mins apart no closer than 18 inches and don't go slow... This paint is the WORST if you over spray or spray slow.

    • @DoubleDguitar
      @DoubleDguitar  Před 5 měsíci

      Hanging is the best, I tried a few different ways and agree. Also yeah, I learned a lot working with this stuff!!

  • @bradleyclosson5042
    @bradleyclosson5042 Před 2 lety +2

    Dude you can't use charcoal lighter fluid! That stuff is like oily kerosene. That's why you got that cracking. When you hear about lighter fluid to prep for paint or clean guitar fretboards we're talking about something completely different. Charcoal lighter fluid should not even be in the same room as a guitar. The correct fluid that we use is Ronsonol. The stuff for Zippo lighters, not barbeques lol. It dries quickly, removes oil and leaves no residue.

    • @DoubleDguitar
      @DoubleDguitar  Před 2 lety

      I only had the cracking happen the first night, before any fluid was applied. I only used it during sanding.
      But thanks for letting me know, I had no issues after the first night with it. I had heard it was very similar. I actually had Ronsonol, should have paid more attention. Thanks man, notes for next time.
