Is 22LR a VIABLE self defense option?

  • There are a few things you want in a self defense situation. Arguably, most important is reliability. It doesn't matter what you carry if it doesn't go boom every time. What caliber people carry is another story, but for those that want to carry, is the 22 a viable option?
    We'll explore more into this topic in terms of power of the federal punch (I know, I know) as time goes on.

    Yes, .22lr is viable for self defense .
    I asked my local medical examiner, what round do you remove most from gun shot fatalities. Without hesitation, the answer was .22lr.

      Most criminals use the 22LR because its quiet and recoil is light and they can fire multiple rounds at one time and maintain target.
      Try that on a 9mm or 45 .....

    That's the best demonstration of the biggest benefit of 22lr - Tons of lead down range, fast follow ups, high accuracy, low recoil. Boom. It's like a swarm of angry hornets coming at you, anyone would run away from that.

      One of my customers got shot with a 22LR and he said it felt like 2 wasps stinging him at the same time and it hurt like a M'er F'er and stopped him immediately because of the "sting" burn.
      Luckily it didn't hit anything major so he was ok but he said, he would never want to go thru that again.
      I can tell you from personal experience that i got stung by 2 wasps at the same time because i felt the 1st and the 2nd one immediately after and i can say that STOPPED me in my trail FAST because it HURT and BURNED.
      i really dont give 2 shits what people say about 22LR, its cheap, lightweight and i can lay shots and stay on target.
      By the time the "average" person can lay down two 9mm or 45 or 10mm and keep ON target, the 22LR shooter will lay down 3

    Great straight to the point no nonsense review on the
    22lr for self defense! With a good tried and true 22lr, good
    ammo, well maintained and good shot placement...
    A 22lr can be just as effective for self defense as any other
    caliber. And any caliber other than a 22lr can be ineffective
    with bad shot placement, poor quality and poorly maintained.
    Just my opinion.
    Great demo.
    Stay safe and healthy.
    Peace

I told him what was the problem with 22 and he said that shit ain’t going to do anything. I looked at him and ask him if he’d have a problem with me shooting him with a 22? He gave me the look….

    I think with a platform that you can put a lot of shots on target with, it is, Like your dedicated AR or any magazine fed 22lr rifle that will send the rounds at higher velocity. Some meth-head will need a bunch of shots center mass or in the head to go down based on what some say.
    I keep my 22lr conversion kit in my 556 AR ready at home because I would never use 556 in a “bump in the night situation. My 12 gauge with buckshot won’t be much quieter but I think it’s likely to neutralize a threat with fewer shots

    Another thing I feel is becoming a thing these days as im one of them, i carry a proven reliable ruger lcp 22lr edc. Its not my back up, its not because its all i can handle shooting. I dont have debilitating authritis, im not old, crippled, handicapped, gun shy, noise, or recoil sensitive. Im an overgrown galoot 42 year old 6’4 380 pound towboat engineer/diesel mechanic. I carry this pistol in 22 because i can hit with it, its reliable, tho i initially had to make it that way, galloway precision helped, and if it werent for the absolute comfort and discreetness of this pistol i would not carry anything. I get up in the morning and get dressed, i grab my wallet, keys, snuff, pocket knife, and lcp off the top of my safe and put them in their appropriate pockets. That is where it stays all day until i disrobe in the evening. It is on me if im wearing anything more than underwear all day everyday. I’ve received zero unwanted dirty looks or conversations about it when im forced to mingle around in public as nobody knows ore would even expect i have a gun on me. Thats what does it for me. Is a 22lr as effective at shutting someone down as my 500 magnum… absolutely not. Would it put someone down or atleast cause them to reevaluate their life choices if need be? I believe so. In the off chance it didn’t i feel they would be deminished enough i could either get away, or transition to less human options such as my knife or fisticuffs if need be. I’ve received copious amounts of crap from my buddies for carrying a 22lr. Ive had discussions with them about the shortcomings of such an anemic cartridge compared to the far superior ballistics of their 9’s, 40’s, and 45’s in their nightstands at home while im standing there patiently listening with my 22 on my person. None of these guys have ever carried those superior calibers a minute of their lives, closest they get is in the glovebox of their vehicles. Ive shot more rounds through my edc in a day than all of them combined in their lives. Ive shot more 22 lr all told than what was expected total in some wars throughout my life im certain of it. My first rifle consistently ate 2 bricks of thunder bolts a week from the age of 8-16, ive no clue how many more ive added to that from 16-42. Alot, but definitely slowed down as life got in the way. What ever 3 firing pins, 2 lock up mechanisms, 2extractors, and 3 takedown pins are worth on a 1963 winchester model 250. What im saying is i fully understand the capabilities and limitations of a 22lr in both a pistol and rifle, and it does just fine for me. Those federal punch are my carry ammo for my pistols. I cycle them out every couple days at a 6”gong 40 yards off my back porch to keep fresh unsweated on ammo in my gun, i also clean it on roughly the same regiment as the sweet smell of hoppes no 9 is my weakness. Do with this what you will, make your own choice, im just saying it work’s exceptionally well for me, and i think it could be a viable solution to more regular folks than they realize.

      A 22LR thru the eye, thru the heart or thru a major vessel will definitely stop the other person. But if you don't hit anything vital, they'll probably keep going. But another thing to think about is criminals prey on the weak. Once they see an opposing obstacle, they'll usually cut bait and walk away

  • @rjakiel73
    @rjakiel73 Před 2 lety

    Federal Punch and CCI Stingers or Velocitor for 22lr. For 22WMR Federal Punch or Speer Gold Dot will do just fine. Any of these rounds out of a rifle for defense is devastating particularly the 22WMR which has the same muzzle energy as a 9mm for a rifle length barrel.

  • @justus005
    @justus005 Před rokem

    People say ideally you want a 9 or higher. I would say the 22lr hitting a vital, is the same as any pistol caliber hitting a vital. When it comes to a pistol caliber, regardless of which caliber it is, you have to hit vitals to incapacitate. All pistol calibers simply poke holes. A bigger hole may bleed more, but if the hole is not in a vital, it does not matter. Penetration matters. Federal punch 22lr will perform to FBI standards out to 40 yards out of a LCR. So the question then becomes, do we really need more?

  • @anton1949
    @anton1949 Před 2 lety

    Number 2 buckshot weighs 30 grains, same as one pellet of Federal Punch LR. So, a good argument can be made that 25 rounds of 22 will be more than effective.
