I remember when we moved, I had very hard time to unpack and organize because, like you said, I wanted to put everything in their « final optimal » place and not putting everything at a temporary location. Maybe it’s because I am lazy and I hate to organize. Maybe it’s because we moved to a place we finally own. I just wanted to take time to think about a perfect place for EACH thing we own to avoid clutter, cupboard filled with mess and objects always changing places because they didn’t had their proper storage location. But in reality, we lacked from storage (moving to a rental furnished appartement to an empty bigger appartement) and I can say, 5 months after that we are almost completely done ! We still miss a few things like bedside tables and a built in storage in the entryway but almost everything in the house has a designated spot and we removed the last moving boxes last month and it felt SO GOOD!

Like yes you can throw them where ever and go back to redo, but why?? A little extra planning at the beginning means one time to do what I consider very annoying tidying up lol

I have a surefire way to make moving day easier. I write the room name on a package label and pack everything wrapped up in huge plastic tubs with lids, then use a colored magic marker and draw a big colored dot on each label...according to the color assigned for each room. Before movers haul boxes in...I have taped correct color dot ...cut from construction paper...on each room's door or entrance wall. Say, blue for bathroom, orange for living room, etc. The movers look at label color dot...take it to the room that has same color dot on its door. Easy, right? No hefty boxes for homeowners to move from one room to another later...because it got jumbled up. Also, at afternoon of closing...I get our new key and go clean the empty house, then put toaster oven, coffee pot and mugs on counter. In bathroom, put towels, soap, shampoo, robes...hair dryer and toilet paper...all set. We set up the bed and mattress, make it up with sheets, blanket, pillows, a lamp etc.... then stay the night in our new home. Set the alarm clock, have a quiet night's sleep in your new home....waking up to a great smooth start for movers coming. Pack a bag, bring a couple lamps, extra lightbulbs and flaslight....all set for big moving day in morning. It lets you have some quiet, wind down the night before...and feel prepared, with a lets get to it attitude in the next day when movers are coming. You could also make and freeze a few meals ahead of time, then pop all that in an ice chest and put it in new frig and freezer at new house night before movers arrive. A couple bags of ice put in bottom of one of those big plastic tubs allows you to load all frig food items over in one haul. can haul vanity and bedroom drawers inside them too, with items still in drawers. Jyust cushion with towels or rolled sheets...no dings or scratches. When you unpack, just put drawers back in...all ready to go...and towels go in linen closet in adjoining bathroom. Little things like that save a lot of time. I use my "extra pillows and blankets" as cushioning in bottom of big tubs. blanket folded at bottom of tub, pillows on side. Paper plates between stacks of plates, then painters tape wound round the stack, use small washclothes or kitchen towels as buffers between stacks...dishes srrive fine, no chips or breaks. Dont pack in too tightly, just a little buffer between. I go to dollar store, buy clear plastic shoe box with lids...add my spices in one, undersink items for bath , kitchen, laundry, etc. add label for which room...put all little bins into a big tub with pots and pans, etc. filling it up test of way. Upon unpacking, you can quickly haul little clear boxes to bath, kitchen...put in right cupboard...all ready to store. Same way for siverware, linens, etc. More drawers you pack with stuff in the drawers....faster it gets put away. You can do "sorting" at leisure on rainy night...idea is get those drawers back into place for desks, bedroom chests etc.

The "issue" you have with wanting items in their rightful place makes sense to me. Why move things twice when you can think it through the first time and not make extra work? There's a term in home organization called OHIO - only handle it once.

The way you two forge ahead and “tackle” everything is incredible! I have been in my home for a bijillion years and the very thought of packing up and moving boggles the, mind. Actually it drives me to drink, to be honest! Things come into the house but nothing ever comes out although I do label and put things in clear plastic containers. But then .... they just pile up. You are sooo disciplined. As a result, your vlogs are inspiring! Looking forward to your next video!

I started decluttering with a 30day challenge where you get rid of one item on day 1, 2 on day 2....... until you get rid of 30 items on day 30. This process makes it really manageable. It might help you to declutter stuff you don’t need. I did it last month because I’m probably moving in autumn so I wanted to give myself a headsart and I’ve already planned on starting the whole process again In a few months. Plus you can always declutter some last minute pieces when packing

That thin string around room could be used for a climbing flowering vine, like morning glory or clematis or ivy. It would look beautiful with tiny "fairy lights" within the vines too. You can even use battery operated ones, tucking the baytery case behind the sitting potted plant base. Another thing done in kitchens of old...a strong thin rope or cable up high in tall ceilings was used as an indoor clothes dryer...the kitchen was warm from baking and cooking, windows were opened for a breeze...the clothes were high above your heads. A wooden wheel pully system on both ends of the line allowed for slowly letting slack in line, lowering dry clothes to be snatched off the line, and then other freshly laundered damp clothes hoisted back up. Wash day was usually Mondays and again Weds. if families were large. Baking was daily in our family home. Tuesday was cooking several meals and tidying up the house a bit. Monday and Weds. was washday with leftovers for supper. Thursday was canning, sewing, working garden. Market day was Saturday, cleaning whole house then catching up with sewing,, and perhaps a quick visit. Sunday was church and day of rest, with a nice fancier meal for dinner...and all the Aunts, Uncles, grandparents, kids and cousins coming together at a family home each Sunday afternoon.

I'm so excited to see the tour! It was weird because when you released your moving video, I had just got my offer on a cute little cottage accepted! So I have been binging all your old reno videos for inspiration but now I can't wait to see what you do with this house!! Its beautiful.

My grandma used to hang christmas cards along the ceiling like that (with a ribbon though instead of a string)

I'm so happy for you two! I know I mention this whenever I comment on a video or on your Instagram, but having been following you since your 'vlog a day' in the very beginning, when you were living in a suite at your parents' place and working a full time desk job -- to seeing you two now supporting yourselves through your passion projects and now living in the SWEETEST CORNISH home is so beautiful. Look at what you've done Maddy, its incerdible!
