  • We look back at how one of the UK's most pivotal elections unfolded.
    The LSE Election Night Party is one of the most exciting and informative places to experience any UK election night. This was certainly true on 12 December 2019, as the world's media joined a packed audience at the LSE to watch one of the UK's most pivotal elections unfold with analysis from leading political experts and thinkers. The LSE Government team was there, along with our colleagues from The LSE British Politics and Policy blog, The Democratic Audit, LSE Public Policy and the school's social media teams to cover reaction and debate throughout the night.
    This film captures what happened that evening, from the moment the exit poll came in at 10pm and on into the small hours of the morning, with analysis from political experts including Dr Joe Greenwood-Hau, Professor Patrick Dunleavy, Professor Sara Hobolt, Professor Paul Kelly and Professor Tony Travers on a general election that resulted in a substantial Conservative majority, settled the Brexit stalemate and saw a realignment in British party politics that may change and define UK politics for the considerable future.

    The reaction of the people on the stage is hlarious, espescially the woman who almost falls off her chair laughing. Then the student's union! Like someone who thinks they won the lottery being told "nah, you haven't!"

    The Student's Union bar reaction is hilarious - "3-2-1! Ye..........ARGH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (SCREAMS OF PAIN)" I thought that the Channel Four exit poll, now sadly taken down, where the audience all swoon into their seats groaning and Chakrabarti looking like she's got a mouthful of wasps was the best...but that beats it lolol. All those poor students crying into their diverse carbon-neutral beers LMAO

    The reason so many students are behind Labour is that they like the idea of scrapping tuition fees. The idea is that you pick a degree that is useful, say engineering or medicine or whatever, and by the end of it you have a decent job with decent pay where you can pay back the cost of your tuition. It's fair. But a lot of these fools are studying the history of lesbian dance theory and ethno/gender diversity studies, where there isn't a job at the end of it and is no way for them to pay it back, and the only thing they are left paying for is their poor decisions which they would rather leave to the rest of the tax paying public. I guarantee the people celebrating in this video spend less time on twitter and more time studying for their degrees that will actually benefit society.

    • @richardgregory3684

      Students like the idea of tax funded freebies as they don;t pay tax. The whole "student loan debt" is nonsense. Below certain earning you pay nothing, and after so many years it's written off anyway.

    • @leikfroakies
      @leikfroakies Před 9 měsíci

      Yeah, that's cute but I actually studied engineering and wrote my dissertation on using controls engineering theory to develop economic theory and tuition fees are actually bad for the economy.
      Most of the money gets written off and they end up functioning more like a graduate tax that stifles the middle class whilst allowing the rich kids to just get daddy to pay for it.
      I'd also note that the last 4 (or 14 for that matter) years kinda prove that Tory economics are built on voodoo. There's a reason the Tories struggle amongst all age groups who went to university. Educated people don't fall for tory bollocks
