Extending the Ender-3 Pro to be Extra Long

  • In order to better create my designs on the Ender-3 Pro, I decided to focus on building a bed that could print within an extended space of 6" x 22." This is a longer walkthrough of how to build my extra long conversion. The 4040 v-slot determines the max length with 8 inches the max width. In theory you could modify the design for a print space of 8" x 32."

This is awesome. Here I am printing printing track pieces on a diagonal on the bed trying to make as long a piece as I can, and you just said screw that. If I had more free time I'd love to try a modification like this, but for now I'm just biding my time until the belt printers become more available.

It looks like you could benefit from the Creality 3DPrintMill.

So I think about this a lot. Is a 3D Print Mill, which is still in its early life, the best way to go about making long parts instead of building a bigger printer like this? My reasoning is that to build long prints you still need external support to catch & hold the print so it doesn't tear off of the bed. You'd essentially be using the same area as a long printer like this.
Do you buy a well developed printer concept or a new printer technology that still has yet to prove itself?
Or do we buy the shiny and buggy new tech because its exciting to be an early adopter?
Frankly I'd likely go for the 3DPrintMill because of its cool concept and I desire to own all styles of 3D printers. (Delta, CoreXY, etc.)
      Thoughts?

@@Joemussa I think for long prints your points are very valid and definitely something to think if thinking of getting one. However there also are ways to use the 3D Print Mill that benefit from it without needing the extra room, namely printing multiples.

@@Joemussa a 3D print mill without thinking. Just look at the mass that is being moved around. Even with CoreXY you still can't match the benefits of the mill design

No way this is way better IMO. No belt to mess with prints like a normal printer. This is awesome!

Thank you for the video, I have an extended Ender but mine is in the Z axis. I printed C3PO and needed the longer z for the shins, thighs, torso, etc to print as one piece or at least fewer pieces. I'm in the process of installing the Ender Extender kit for 400 x 400 xy to go along with the 500 z.

You can buy the black angle corner connectors on Aliexpress at a much lower price. The only problem is that it may take 1-2 months to receive it in the mail.

Found some v-slot extrusion, JSR bed heater, and trying to find someone that will cut a custom carriage plate and bed. Would have rather bought your kit.
