  • I finally did it... I bought the guitar I've had my eye on for quite some time, and the first in over 7 years.
    I gotta say this one seemed like a risk due to the inconsistent nature of Gibson's quality control lately, plus the fact that there are TONS of very high quality guitars available now for much cheaper.
    But luckily, this new LP Classic has stolen my heart and I don't regret a dollar.
    The phenomenal punch, clarity, growl, and versatility of the split coil Zebra pickups, the beautiful Translucent Cherry finish, and the special slim-60's neck profile make this an absolute masterpiece of an instrument.
    Is it twice as good as my LTD EC-1000, or six times better than my EC-256?
    Undoubtedly, NO.
    But if you are still on the fence after this video, and are fortunate enough to be able to afford it, buy one. I can tell you with confidence you will feel and hear very clearly where your money went.
    I must say this is truly unlike anything I've played in a while and even sets itself apart from the same model-year LP Traditional and Standards I demo'd before pulling the trigger on this one. There truly is no substitute.
    The "Classic" title seems to be a bit of a misnomer to me as it has many new/updated features, and definitely sounds distinct compared to the rest of the LP model lineup. If you want a truly vintage Les Paul sound and feel, this is NOT the guitar for you. But on the other hand, I welcome these differences with open arms as they make for a really unique and memorable playing experience. I just HAD to have one.
    HUGE thank you to our friends at www.zzounds.com for the tremendous service, this arrived in under 24 hours of placing my order.

      Thank you! Yeah this is a pretty amazing guitar. In the past when playing the newer Les Pauls at GC I've never felt like they were worth the ridiculous pricetag, especially with the competition of LTD (I have a couple of these and they're amazing for the price). This was definitely one I had to have - a real standout.

    Nice playing. The tone sounds a bit muddy. Can't tell if it's because of you daisy-chaining the channels on the amp, or if it's the pedal/Burstbucker combo. A bit too fuzzed-out for my liking. I've been looking at these lately, but I crave a little bit more clarity and definition.

    • @KennyRavelo
      @KennyRavelo  Před 3 lety +1

      It could also be due to my amp! The way I have my deluxe reverb setup is pretty mid-focused, I dont like the harsh high end when playing with distortion. The voicing of LPs in general have a lot of low-end emphasis - That's actually why I liked this one, because it has more of that high-end preserved compared to the LP Standard and Traditional I tried. If max clarity and definition is your priority then I might just skip the LPs altogether, although this one is quite stellar.

    • @KennyRavelo
      @KennyRavelo  Před 3 lety

      thank you! and actually it's a really cool effect when you channel jump, as you can "blend" the dry and reverb channels just by adjusting the volume on each one. it's an interesting way to add a little more control over the amount of reverb you get.
      And absolutely no regrets, it's been a pleasure and a beast of a workhorse. I would recommend playing some LTD ECs/ESP Eclipses for comparison as you might get a better bang for your buck, unless of course you're absolutely set on getting a Gibson in specific.

There's no harm in expediting the process with a little fretboard conditioner during my next string change. Bought one of the same kind, had to return it, the fret board was insanely dry, there was problems on the back with binding (not even, part sticking out), volume knobs looked very cheap, fretboard had a ding in it, the nut was looking kind of weird and had some distance between the headstock and the neck. Was very disappointed :(

    • @KennyRavelo
      @KennyRavelo  Před 3 lety

      Ah I'm very sorry to hear that! I have heard about Gibson's spotty quality control the last few years. I think I mentioned in this review as well the fretboard looked/felt very dry on mine, but I planned to do a setup on it anyways to correct that issue among others. I would be extremely disappointed if I had your experience, knowing what these things cost. That's outright unacceptable.

      This is definitely far from the best bang-for-buck guitar out there, but you should absolutely not just discredit it because I'm playing it with pedals. Sometimes that's the only way to get the sound you want: my amp only has a single clean channel, so if I want overdrive, fuzz, or distortion at reaosnable volumes, there's not really an alternative. Not to mention there are still benefits in the feel and playability.
