Benji not earning $240mio is a disagrace.
Whatever they buy, I won't watch it.
Aren't UAE just about the same as Saudi Arabia? You dont watch Pogi..?
@@henrikmadsen6446having lived in the region for years, on a spectrum of “the same as KSA” - they are not. Life in the UAE is different depending on which Emirate you are in. While there is overlap in certain aspects of governance, the UAE is far and away better v the extreme of KSA.
@@davidsorensen1769 as long as you're not one of the beaten and abused immigrant domestic workers, indentured (effective slave labor) immigrant construction workers, or trafficked sex workers / slaves, right? (Several million people)
@@henrikmadsen6446 I don't like sportswashing at all. It's hard to ignore that teams are sponsored by UAE, by Bahrain or by Israel. It's ugly, but when all of pro cycling is bought by a country, it's too much. I m happy that there is no WT race in the US though. I guess, there is no use in even trying to sportswash the US.
The teams would constitute B-grade riders and aged out grand tour riders signing up. For example, perfectly see someone like Geraint Thomas gravitating toward this.
Surely cycling is worth more than $250m. ASO will never allow it to happen IMO.
Just look at the PGA / LIV deal.
Without the tour this will never happen.
Cycling and the grand tours are unique and irreplaceable! Athletes will always go where the money is but you could never produce a competition big enough with the history and prestige of the grand tours
I don't invision a scenario where teams will boycott the TdF. PIF needs to more than double their fund (probably 4x) if they really want to make a splash.
Greeeedd!
Cycling is love
Surely, the UCI need to look at how other major sports have their series run? Look at motorsport - the governing bodies don't run a series, they put a tender out for companies to run one of their series.
F1 - Liberty, MotoGP - Dorna, WEC - ACO/FiA, WRC - WRC Promoter.....
The World Tour needs to be run by one sole company - and they decide what races are in the WT, when they're run, and sell TV rights. Each race has to pay a hosting fee to the promoter to be included on the WT.......
The ASO need to lose their grip on the sport - they put very little back into the sport.
Try 10 times that amount just to get started
Team can easily allow a Rider 2 contracts one and summer and one in Winter
Competition is good
Prize money can buy riders but can it buy viewers?
Of course if Pogacar and Vingegaard line up at a race viewers of this channel will watch it, but is that what they would want, or would they want an event of Tour of Flanders / Tour de France scale (which they won’t get)?
Riders, will want to still do the tours, this could destroy cycling. It won't work in my view.
I struggle with how rankings will work, how multiple different events will work.
Prize money will dominate new races
Turn your head, shake the hand and take the money. MONEY > morality , why can't meta and Amazon not bring some love to the states.
