Thank you very much, being a single guy even closing to my 30 , i have never really had to do anything like this so learning by watching what to do has been really nice.
Looks way easier than i thought it out to be when the bed collapsed on me this morning - will definetly be able to do it on my own.
Thanks again!
Thanks for taking the time to comment - I am glad the video helped!
Thanks so much. Very helpful. Tackling this overdue task today.
Watching this on my broken bed frame
😁
Exactly what I needed. Thank you sir.
Excellent, glad the video helped!
Thanks for the vid keep up the hard work
Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to comment and for your support!
Thank you so much for this video it save me a lot of money n I didn’t want to buy a new bed. It was so easy I did it by myself
I am so glad the video helped and you were able to fix it!
Thanks man 👍🏼
Thank you! Saved me a few hundred bucks :)
Glad the video helped!
This was actually helpful
Thank you, appreciate you taking the time to comment!
Thanks. I amd making a similar repair to a king size bed without removing the box spring and mattress by using glue and 2.'5" bolts from outside the side rail.
Not what I needed but still a great explanation.
Thank you!
Great job thank you
Thank you so much!
For weeks I was googling “Epic pillow fight battle bed break” I finally found this video. Thank you Sir!
😁
Thank you great video
Thank you!
Thank you !!!
Thanks
Thanks so much for your video. It has helped me a lot as the movers lost the side rails to my bed and I have to replace them. What are the dimensions of the wood you put on the side?
Glad it helped! I used 1 inch x 2 inch x 8 ft furring strips from Lowes. The 2 inch x 2 inch x 8 ft could also work just be sure to predrill the holes before you screw them in to the side rail. The actual side rails that I mounted the strips to are 2 inch x 6 inch.
Thank you!
Glad the video helped! Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Great video! Is that a metal boxing spring?
Thank you! It's actually a wood box spring.
What type of/size screws did you use? And also what glue do you recommend? Great video!
Thanks for taking the time to watch the video and comment! I used 1 1/4 inch #8 Philips head screws and pre-drilled the wood to avoid splitting. My rails may be wider than yours so be sure to select a screw length that does not go all the way through your railing. Any wood glue would work, I just happened to have some gorilla brand wood glue and used what I had.
@@ThatDadMike What size should the pilot hole be compared to the screw you're using?
Ty, and yes it was a pillow fight actually lmao
I just jumped on my bed imma be kileld
Happened on my antique cherry 4 poster bed (in the middle of the night--it came crashing down while my 200 pound teenage son was sleeping in it)--family heirloom from 19th C. I notice the frame was held together only by glue (no screws). I'm a single mom but I'll try this myself...
Good luck, let me know if I can help in any way!
Thanks. I suggest a harder wood be used at least poplar
I’m here because I broke my daughters bed by simply sitting on it with the extra 40lbs I’ve gained since quarantine
Ouch 🤕:D
So I can go to Home Depot and get that 1 x 3 for a king sized bed ? Can I get them to just cut that for me or do I have to buy that somewhere in particular?
Absolutely! Home Depot is where I bought the one in the video. Here is what it is called on their website: 1 in. x 3 in. x 8 ft. Furring Strip Board
I suggest two additions: first, when working with glue over carpeting, put down a dropcloth. Second, your slats are way too flimsy. You need center support or, over time, the boys or you
will cause the mattress to sagnegating any warranty on queen or kingsize beds.
Yep centre support and slats 3 or 4 inches apart.
What kind of wood works best for this project?
Thanks
I used a 1x2 furring strip from Lowes in the video and it has held up well.
Awesome video
Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to comment!
Only Mommy and Daddy should be jumping on the bed.
How can I life my double top extremely heavy mattress without help?
Do I need a impact driver ? Will just my Ryobi drill work?
The drill would work great! You are just drilling small pilot holes for the screws to go in and not split the wood.
This is way too complicated for me. I guess I'll be sleeping on the floor.
Lol mine was from weeks of rough sex but this video was very informative lol
Would you recommend doing this on a particle board bed frame as well? Or should I just cut my losses and get a new frame?
With the glue and the right depth of screws, I think it's certainly worth a try!
Most beds are particle board now, unless you spend like 5k+, but it's not the particle board of old days, it's very dense and you may just have to use some toothpicks to give it something to grab onto.
My rail now is only glued on. What size nails would you recommend?
I would use several #8 screws (or #10). The screws will hold much better and not pull out like a nail would.
I meant screws. One of those days. Thank you!!
so I accidentally broke my bed. It’s midnight. It’s the second time and my parents are going to kill me. SEND HELP
Mine broke and I just won’t tell em 😞😞
I got off lucky with just a crack on the bottom of my bed. Worried asf about my dad seeing it though. Dudes gonna scream his lungs out if he finds out. Hopefully he doesn't.
I hope all of you who commented are ok. They shouldn't be so upset with you all over this. Especially if it was an accident. These things happen. Oh and it happens even quicker to furniture made out of particle board like most of IKEA furniture IMHO.

Been there friend
Where do you get the clamps from ?
The ones I used in the video were very inexpensive and from harbor freight. Your local home improvement store should have them as well.
That Dad Mike i have another question i try to screw the wood back on to the Railing but the screws doesn’t go in is it because i have to glue it first ?
I would drill the holes with a very small drill bit and then use the screws in the holes that you made. That will make them go in easier and prevent the wood from splitting. The glue goes on the back of the new piece of wood and provides a lot of the strength once it's dry. The screws hold the new piece of wood on and provide some additional strength.
Would you recommend just glue the broken piece?
Thanks for taking the time to watch the video and comment! You could certainly try, and you could even just replace the portion that is broken. My personal preference is to use both screws and glue as the screws provide added strength against the sheering force of the mattress pushing down on the rail.
How can I fix a crack in the headboard where the side rails attach...the rails attach but the crack is running up the headboard causing the rail to pull away
Would something like this work to relocate the attach points in both the headboard and rails? You may need longer screws. amzn.to/3FtB4ep
Mine split sideways, not down.
Wow!
I broke the whole side off! Helppppp what to do
Epic pillow fight huh 😂😂
What are the dimensions of the wood underneath the box spring? I’m at Home Depot as we speak.
These are furring strips on the sides, 1x2" and the cross rails are 1x4".
Eyooo who saw the door knob turn at 4:05 ??? Ghost
The side boards failed because of improper weight distribution. And support blocks near the center of each cross support to evenly distribute the weight across the boards and not just the sides
Ours was caused by something else but yeah I wanted to consider as many options as possible
Haha see what you did there. ;)
,😳
So why didn't screw in the boards on that hold up the mattress? 🤔
Gravity holds those as all the weight is distributed downwards
The wood in the middle of the bed is broken. How much cost it to repaire by furniture repaire company
I have never had it quoted but I am sure it would be a lot. If it's the wood in the box spring mattress that broke, here is a video I did fixing that that could be helpful: czcams.com/video/p3Wd1wiub5A/video.html
Does it last ?
It does. It has been holding strong for two years now.
Did you consider adding more slats and just add the mattress on top and not the base box as well? The weight is probably the reason it broke, its designed for a mattress.
We thought about that. I built the bed and frame and I think what happened is one of our children jumped on the very edge causing it to break.
@@ThatDadMikeyeah happened to me as I was throwing a fit about the cheaply made bed, but I push off with my foot to get out of bed and I don't think any bed maker expects that type of force in once spot on their thin rails 😂
What if I don’t have the needed materials, who do I call please??
If you have a local handyman, they should be able to help.
Man, i was just going to the bed then it somehow snapped, so god plz help me plz
So I was being a dumb ass yesterday and I thought it would be a good idea to jump as high as I could on my bed so of course apart of the bed rail broke so I left it there for a couple days thinking what to do hoping my dad won’t find out then I screwed everything back in to place because I don’t have glue
i literally used flex tape 😭 it works at least
The bed needs more slats. Buy the metal ones
I did it by jumping on it ill just say it somehow snapped but rn im peeing myself
Omg bro same I just full on jumped onto it like I see in the movies and it just snapped in half
Edit: im still alive
@@brfc_reece6741Edit: i hid the crack but they will find out eventually 😔

try not bare foot when there are tools and nails may be present
Bro I did a hard jump and I broke and I’m 12💀
I don’t have any of these tools lol😭😭😭😂
Perhaps a neighbor may have the tools you could borrow or a local handyman could help?
@@ThatDadMike where I’m from there are caked shade tree mechanics… lol turn in the lights and your trunk pops open
Whoa!
Have you considered bunk beds for the boys?
I noticed that he used Gorilla Glue. That brand usually is a two-part glue in which one part is the bottle of glue and the other water. The directions say to spread the glue over one surface and spray water on that. This activates the glue and makes a foam that when you clam pressure will press into the material being glued. The glue will only gain maximum holding capacity when the water activates it.
This was Gorilla brand wood glue and does not require spraying water and does not foam. Really good stuff. Here is the link: amzn.to/3l6GOjV
Wrong!
Glue on the stain? Not gonna do it’s job that way.
Forget the slats and use 3/4” sheet of plywood.
Slats are meant to let air get underneath your mattress so it doesn't mold, which a box spring does just with a breathable felt around as well.
The huge problem here is that it's made with wood. Wooden beds break easily!
If anybody doing this needs to be told to remove screws using the reverse setting, it might be a cart before the horse situation.
On the other hand, maybe somebody that doesn't know anything about anything watches this and it helps them take the first step to DIY'n.
