  • Yay for clear skies. Finally got out to chase my first hydrogen alpha emission nebula. Most unmodified camera filter out the warm magenta and red lights emitted by these type of nebula but with long enough exposures you can capture the faint light from these nebula.
The California Nebula is a perfect wide-field deep space astrophotography target for beginners like me and my Samyang 135mm f2 lens was perfectly suited for capture this target with it wide field of view and ability to gather light. I think it turned out great for my first attempt despite clouds rolling in around 11 PM and cutting off additional exposure time.

Thanks for the great tutorial. I've got the same lens and has just made a full spectrum mod to my camera on my own. Can't wait to test it.
Btw I guess you can modify your camera and still use an external (or clip-in) uv/ir cut filter to make "normal" photos.

Washington state. So far I've been happiest with the Sony 200-600 lens. Versatile and delivers remarkably flat images.
