The Experimental Leon P Archambault RV-6A aircraft, registered as N715PA,
sustained undetermined damage after impacting the waters of the Merrimack
River. This occurred during an apparent ditching while in a right traffic pattern
to Runway 23 at Lawrence Municipal Airport (KLWM) in Lawrence, Massachusetts.
The pilot did not survive

No read back of the ATC instructions.
I said the same thing on another video. Someone responded that the recording is likely not getting all the conversation. No way ATC would continue to let them get away with not reading back.
Too sad…wasn’t quite prepared for his cries 😢
I also feel really bad for ATC in this case in addition to the victims family. You can really hear how hard he took it especially once he heard the other plane say PA wasn't gonna make it

Wasn’t he a former military pilot with lots of experience. Sometimes things go wrong. Don’t automatically blame the crash on pilot error.

Aside from the crash..his communication with atc was not up to standards...not even close.

Maybe but the chance this was a mechanical failure or simply taking too much risk with an experimental is more likely then his age.
