This game is a lot of fun and has big Half-Life 1 vibes (your character even sounds a lot like a HL1 scientist). It's playable in single-player or multiplayer with up to six people. It is a blast in multiplayer, but for the playthrough video I chose to go solo as I like to go at my own pace (it's hard to showcase story beats when you have people running around teabagging monsters!). For the purposes of the video I've also streamlined some of the crafting aspects as it can take a while to build certain objects.
I don't generally go for survival games, but I found this one feels a bit more like an immersive sim. It's also very accessible and I loved its blend of Sci-Fi, horror and humor. I think it'll be a pretty big hit when it gets its full release!
Lol agree. I've seen gameplays but always multiplayer and you don't know what's going on aside from friends yelling, laughing and doing silly things on purpose just for the sake of content. It's fun but I prefer the single player experience.
Just saw this is slated for May 2nd! Thought it would be much later in the year, so I'm excited.
Ttt_y
The demo is out btw
Also, I was a playtester
You know how Spiderman has Spider-Sense and it tingles when he's in danger? Well, Australians have the same thing but it applies to New Zealand voice-actors who are pretending to be Australian.
...And brother, my Kiwi-Sense is tingling big time with this game.
There's an imposter among Aus.
i doubt any voice actor in this was even kiwi lmao, the security guard in the offic plaza almost made me quit, awful accent imitation 🤣
I think that's kind of the point. It's seems off but it's almost nostalgic too. I could be completely wrong.
Yeah nah you're spot on there. It's like he's too chipper or something. There's a continuum from Melb poofs to outback truckies and that guy doesn't belong anywhere on it.
Shame you don't have that about actual spiders
Friends and I played the demo for a good 11 hours. This game is fucking fantastic, an absolute buy from all of us. The premise is simple: "What if you were just some dude at Black Mesa during HL1 trying to survive the cataclysm but you could break apart furniture for ingredients and craft tons of shit and build crafting tables and makeshift batteries but there was also class-based cooperative multiplay and base defense and cooking?" It's *excellent*.
Its amazing
Good to see the Silencer. No remorse, no regret.
Yeah, me and my friend played the playtest. That shit as a blast
The premise might be simple but it took you a paragraph to state it!
im sold, sold, and sold again on this game.
I love how he looks at the gun and instantly nod his head
You can tell the Valve community is impatient for new games
After 20 fucking years only to get a documentary saying they "don't like to look back" after egging us on for years I'd say we're completely justified in making our own spin offs
oh c'mon, surely they'll announce half life 3 any day now
The fans will make it happen. We can move mountains!
@@kyramonnix1520 id doubt that...
Is it really "impatient" if they have waited years for anything at a time
That start was hilarious "Time to get out, outcha hop" (Head shake)
*pounds door to be let back in*
*runs after car*
Oh man...I feel a sense of nostalgia and a feel to check if Ayers Rock is an antenna used to call out Aliens
My sense of immersion is totally broken. If this was really the Outback, that outhouse would've had so many spiders...sooo many...
Would’ve had to fight off four of em just to access the outhouse
What do you think gave the evolutionary root of this ecosystem? However, it seems the low energy availability of "A2" has made these creatures significantly more docile
Aerosol can+lighter= insect pest control.
Seems like a blend of Half Life 1, Deus Ex and Bioshock with some survival elements in. I'll definitely keep and eye for the demo, seems unique enough.
And a sprinkle of System Shock
A little bit of arma?
The demo is fun but of course limited. I'm excited to play the full game.
ok whoever made this freaking game deserves a medal and then some- not just for giving us a tribute to the original half-life game, but expanding on it with crafting, realistic injury, etc!
This game has shitting mechanics? We’re truly hitting new levels never thought possible.
Haha, I covered a colonoscopy horror game a few weeks ago. That takes shit to a whole new level! :)
You can even poop your pants and then make soup out of it.
Bruh this is a dream come true, I always wondered why there were so many fortnite clones and stuff like tht but never Half Life clones, it's literally one of the best game formulas
The Mist-like environment at the end is amazing.
2:07 Bobbert: barely gets out of the car and already fistfights a kangoroo.
He'll fit in the game very well.
Finally, Half-Life 1/2
I love your first instinct when you leave the car, is to try and push it towards oblivion. Classic. xD
He does have that 'quietly chaotic' energy to him
The first couple of minutes I was like "Eeh, the graphics", but 20 minutes in: "Damn, this game looks really cool."
If you're playing games for graphics try watching a movie
don't you get ever tired of modern graphics? Them going for the 90s only makes the game more appealing
@@Dequ011 No.
@@844pm2 Did I say I hated it? It was just the first impression of the driving scene, but when I saw the scope of the game and that it was a modern Half-Life inspired game it looked really cool.
If I really hated it I would have closed the video immediately.
@@Lethyss I didn't say that you hated it, when you wrote "Eeh, the graphics", it's easy to assume that you either are skeptical or initially put off by it, which is understandable. I was only offering different perspective if u weren't interested. I wasn't being condescending by the way - I do agree with you about the initial driving scene; it did come off a bit jarring, especially with the driver but it did become progressively more fun once you got into the gameplay.
Wait, if you missed the toilet slider marks, does that mean you sh@t all over the seat?
We don't go to Flat Hill anymore.
Wow, this games's level design and environments look amazing! Very immersive, and clearly a lot of love put into it. I'll definitely be playing this.
Some suggestions:
- The UI visual design needs some TLC; a reduced color scheme would help, it's a bit chaotic right now
- That mace swing, lol, makes Skyrim's melee engine look agile
But honestly, this is a fantastic looking game 👌
this game seems extremly creative
Australian half-life is something I never thought I needed
21:33 Have you tried throwing a plastic shopping bag at it?
22:30 "you aren't losing blood"
You are winning blood even!
41:32 mouthing words that can't be spoken: Item broken? No problem. HADOUKEN!!
1:27:31 died from an ass shot
6:49 yeah, that's totally how knees and calves work
So awesome you covered this game
They even made the announcer sound like the HL one lol
8:51 Bobbert: *hurt leg*
*bandages arm*
Haha! You never remove bandages in games like this either. It'd be funny if the thickness of your arms just gradually increased throughout the game because of the amassing layers of old bandages! :)
Meanwhile.
Far cry: Get's shot in the foot....removes bullet from the arm....and heal from it....
Cod: Get's shot....takes deep breath and walks it off....
Most games: Get's shot or hurt....eats food...and heals from it....
@hansdavis7335 the foot bullet obviously travelled with the bloodstream!
I know theres a lot of cross over in games and obvious inspirations but weirdly the one for me is C&C Renegade ❤
This game looks sick
This is prob *the* game I'm most excited for release for this year, it's fantastic
I was looking forward to this game before. I'm so glad you are covering this hidden gem.
Nah, this definetly feels more System Shock 2 than Half Life. The menus and item management, the heavy focus on melee weapons vs guns and the atmosphere.
"If you are concerned about your current situation shake your head." Future Bobbert Proverb
Loving these Aussie themed games.
It's set in Australia, has an opening Aussie character (the driver) then, apart from some security personnel, the place appears to be staffed by Americans.
Is this another bloody secret facility that you Yanks have coerced we Aussies into hosting, like Pine Gap and Exmouth? Jeeezuz...it never bloody ends, does it?!😄
nope
@@dr.walterbennett Well, that was deep!
@@hcrun the yanks paid me to write this
All the dialogue is placeholder anyways.
australia sells themselves out to everyone
Well, after watching it full i can say...its pretty great! I liked a lot of things, crafting is somewhat old theme now but still feels as nice addition. I liked this Australian jokes and whole "discounted Black Mesa" feeling. I liked references of Half Life but also fact they didnt made exact copy. I didnt found people models to be...exactly great. Retro-feeling is good, but lack of variety is not. Some of dialogs feels little too cheesy, but its not exactly bad thing.
Overall - "its beta then nothing". I anticipate whole thing release.
I always through halflife lent itself well to a bit of a Stephen King Mist prequel... it seems the devs thought so too.
Half life was inspired by the Mist. It was supposed to be called project: Quiver.
@sonofeyeabovealleffoff5462 Get out?! Really? Arrowhead Project - Quiver. That's a good reference. Thanks friend! You have taught me a very interesting fact about 2 peices of media I enjoy! :-)
@@tedytarrify That novel was certainly a huge inspiration for Half-Life. As well, back in the 90s, the TV show X-Files was wildly popular, and in the '93 pilot, a mysterious character is introduced - the "Cigarette Smoking Man" - who, in my humble opinion, is very similar and perhaps a large inspiration for the G-man.
@FelixHelix oh yes! The smoking man. He was such a good character. I did like the first movie too.
@@tedytarrify Funny story, I read the Mist 6 years after Half-Life came out (may 2004) and I'd played the game and its expansion packs Blue-Shift and Opposing Force along with Half-Life 2; and when I was finished with the novella in one of SK's short stories collections,
The first thought that popped into my mind was "This book sounds uncannily like the first Half-Life game when Xen lifeforms would be terrorizing ordinary civilians and cities right before the Seven Hour War."
Notification squad baby!
i can´t stop, i played the alpha, now the demo... this game is fkn amazing!
ive been following this game for a while and im so excited for the full release
oh this was a demo? i wish i knew that from the start.
anyway. this was better than i expected it to be. i hope the developer continues working on this!
that's a ton of content for just a demo surprisingly, usually that's how much you get in like early access lol
i hope the devs know where they are taking this game, there's already a ton going on, especially in crafting; i can't imagine the size of the end game crafting menu..
The way you tried to grab the jeep as it was speeding away 😂
8:18 wow, the economy got really tough for Mario if he had to accept govt gigs...
Ever since Peach got the house in the divorce things have been tough. Luigi's now threatening to break his knees if he doesn't pay back the $50 he owes him too.
Luigi owns a mansion. Bit haunted, but still. He could give him some slack, but that's a typical landlord for ya.
Woah, I found a flyer for this game on my doorstep one morning and was majorly confused, but completely forgot to investigate. This actually looks really cool
68 hours in and going crazy building different bases because I can and no one is going to stop me. The only thing slowing me down is waiting on fire extinguishers to respawn. Everything else I have lots of . hehehehhehehehehe
8:44 He said the funny line
so far i really enjoy this :) i like the sounds that the monsters make and the crafting system :) smart i gonna check it out when its out
Bushworld Half-Life. Looks great!
Abiotic Factor is a mix between half life, timesplitter and deus ex machina and desolate ( no one remembers that game?)
This looks like exactly my kind of jam. Hope it comes out vaguely soonish.
Love the "taking a dump" minigame :D
Red Rock kindly reminds any Flat Hill personnel, that you can't craft a wooden plank without a crafting table, which is like the floor, but smaller, and made out of wooden planks.
Wow! This looks amazing 👍
I played the recent demo solo and with friends. It was a lot of fun! The theme is very compelling to me, and it does the survival crafting genre in a real fresh way in my perspective.
I wouldn't call it "horror" in any sense however. :D Sure it can get scary at times, like with the tall guys in Flathill, but it still doesn't really have a horror vibe to me.
Hell yeah! Added to wishlist!
I hope they made more open wold with this kind of halflife game background, 🎉
oh nice, glad to see you covering this
Shittin before start working 😂
Npc and pc Hank Hill vibes. Cool game, will def play!
You speak very clear wrench my friend
I love it's Australian that right off makes it terrifying 😊
I hate crafting systems as a general rule, but this looks like such a well-made love letter to Half-Life (and Freeman's Mind, I'm thinking?). Gives the vibes of parody that became its own thing.
this game is gorgeous
Kinda reminds me of HL1 and TimeSplitters style and tone
with a dash of System shock 2/Deus ex with a crafting system and it's a pretty good mix.
ABG: It was soda-pressing.
Monster: YOU THOUGHT, N-
The problem with these games that they try to catch the old vibe when real old games trying to be closer to reality
from what i see it's an artstyle choice. besides wearing it's HL1 influence on its sleeve, it has more effects/has more things going on than what an older game would or could be.
@@deejornoand that the problem maybe only mine problem, it tries to feed on nostalgia feeling but fails at that like these 3d hands in polygon game
Im not talking about how bad this game May be but about that i cant feel anything playing this but in hl1 its all diffirent
@@deejorno its not problem with this game but with many "styled" games that are Just lazy with graphics with no reason, also i cant see why you should play that game when you have hl1 or after playing hl1 i mean i dont see why would you enjoy playing a game that almost like original but its made in 2023 2024 and have no known charachters in it so its Just kinda like hl 1 but its not then why dont pay hl1 or hl modification? I dont see much sence in this
@@dodept6422it fun
hello AlphaBetaGamer this Game looks fun SPC/Half Life FPS
The fact that you can ta sht while playing thi game makes me want to play it 100% more
Thumbnail: MEEEEEDIIIIC!!!
I looked at the HUD and thought it was Deus Ex for a moment 😆
this looks like fun!
YES... I was just searching for discussion about this. I just watched the trailer on Steam, and my first thought was OMG this is Half-Life-inspired for sure!!!
WTF that security guy at 21:05 did nothing while you were getting mauled to death!
As one man once said: "STAHP!!"
This game reminds me of Grounded with its open map and crafting mechanic, I've been looking for a new similar game to play, will it be on console?
People who still play sven coop(like me) will enjoy this
Huh, (kiwi-made) Australian Half-life, it's rather neat idea that immediately gives the game a distinctive tone and feeling. The accents also give the game a more strong impression.
Rise and shine freeman
Valve should buy this up immediately, just as they always did with fan projects (Team Fortress, Half Life, Counter Strike etc) - it is so Valvey it almost hurts
half life + Bio Shock 2 = ABIOTIC FACTOR
The fact you got a RatPack first try hurts my soul.
I am getting big lez vibes from the intro.... wonderful
looks like a combo of half life, deus ex, and then the lighting style from fear.
It's like a remake of half life 1... but with crafting and rpg elements. I kinda love it
Dodgy audio clips, floppy jaws for talking, and a mix of smooth and clunky movement (plus, the little "behind the wheel" scream was a good joke. :P)
Oh yeah, they know what they're doing here. Honestly, can't wait to see what people do with this, I can think of a few streamers who'd probably do well playing it.
Well, this is something...
I'd buy that for a dollar)
It's set in the most horrifying place in the world! Australia!
It's funny how primitive low poly graphics from the late 90s don't look that bad. The player's imagination fills in the details...
The voice acting is very good
gotta always remember to craft a lead pipe
Half-Life X SCP Foundation
8/10 Already, just for first mini game.
They Hunger mod for half life - try it 😊
Looks like if half life was reimagined usung the Sin game engine style.
0:33 Realising that you have no feet, legs, thighs, waist or torso. You might just be a disembodied POV😮
YES FINALLY LETS GOOOOOO
Gunmen down under.

Nice rhis game has sequel prequel or its standalone ?
