This is a good comprehensive test. However, personally I'd be checking the frame and engine numbers first, followed by the keys and then the rest of the bike. No point going through the whole bike BEFORE you discover the numbers don't match or the keys have been replaced...
Absolutely!
How do you check the keys have been replaced?
@@kiradotee There will be 2 separate keys for the fork lock/ seat if that has a key. Should be all 1 key
How do i do that
Not discussed is what happens next if you find, say, the tires are worn. The average buyer has already decided he wants the bike, so, absent a better specimen elsewhere, he simply asks for a price reduction. And if he finds the bike is perfect, what does he do? Well, he asks for a price reduction.
Always start by checking the engine oil and coolant!!! It's the most important check of all.
Another good check would be to move the handle bar up and down from side to side, pull up with one hand and push down with the other. This will check the upper yoke bearing for movement. The beautiful GS you have there could have a worn yoke and/or bearing.
bro I’ve got a perfect mint 2006 GT Radial World Cup Bike was $35,000 new, only ridden it once it was an unwanted Christmas present I’ll let you have it for a steal at ONLY $20,000 as I need the cash fast. I’m in the UK though but I can meet you at Heathrow Airport just do a quick exchange and you can be back home on the same flight you came. The frames missing but other than that she rides like a beauty! You will not be disappointed hit me up in the DMs.
First thing I always check is engine oil, the colour, viscosity and even the smell,
Thanks, this is a really useful guide. Always good to look like you know what you're looking for when you check over a bike.
Cheers Rob! Great video and it really helped me!
Top job, well presented cheers
Thanks for making this helpful video
What about checking the oil? I would think that's the most important thing , to diagnose whether the engine is healthy inside
@@dantae666 all bikes should have a glass / eye
amazing helpful stuff. thanks
Verily a social bike social. Very useful video! Thanks!
Awesome video! Great job guys!
Thanks! John
Great job! Very helpful.
Thanks! John
One also needs to check the insurance validity and insurance claim if the bike was accidental or not.
Superb effort to clear all points/doubts
Keep posting
Cheers 🥂
Very very very useful indeed
Very useful. thanks
Very informative, good advice, making sure that if you purchase a bike you are checking what you need to before committing to the sale.
That was the intention of the video, but thank you for letting everyone else know that you understood that.
Greetings Rob! What brand is the pipe on your bike? It sounds excellent. Thanks
You're all done are you?
May I suggest to people that you might want to check the oil level and the cleanliness of the oil. Make sure it's not milky looking which would indicate coolant leaking into your oil. If you're really keen, take an oil sample and check for metal fibres.
Also you may want to check the levels on the coolant and make sure it's clean with no oil in it.
Now you're done.
Look for coolant leaking in the oil or coolant level? On a not liquid cooled bike? Well gl with that
What about the testride tips?
why does you not chec the oli level ? smel the oil ? look in the exaust for black coller.? oil consumpion ?
Good check but i wil start with a oil check before starting.
Thank you for the video.
I am in the process of buying a 2018 GS Adventure. I need to know where to locate the VIN number please. Thank you in advance.
Check for Cat N and Cat S.
what model year is this GS? is it the oil-cooled or liquid-cooled one?
Great video! I'm sure that's a great bike, especially if you can do stuff yourself and don't have to be subjected to Beemer dealers fleecing you at every turn, but my god it's ugly! I know, Dual Sports are hardly lookers any of them but jeez, that thing is ugly as sin. Those Beemer duck-bills are truly horrendous.
While this video was excellent, a lot of it boiled down to "do a test and see if it feels right". How do I know if it feels right if I never did that before?
Do you ask for dealer service / maintenance records? If this were a high mileage bike would you adjust your assessment procedures in any way? Is it true that the value and demand for a bike drops significantly after it reaches 20,000 miles?
lisning sound of the valves ?
I like to stay away from the used bikes that are conveniently put up for sale right before major service is due and hoping you don't notice the extra $800 to $1800 you'll be coughing up to the dealer in 500 miles. Makes you wonder why they would buy a bike and not ask about service intervals and cost to maintain.
Just one more thing...if you have time, check the cleanliness of the air filter, this gives an indication on how well the bike was serviced. Also ask the seller to supply maintenance records if possible. Check service intervals for the bike before viewing and make sure all scheduled maintenance has been performed. Valve checks for example.
The gentleman giving this instruction is very good at acting professional and gave some good advice but I find he has missed numerous obvious details.
The Bikes these we buy your bike companies buy what happens to them after. ?
Do they go to auction or do motorcycle dealers buy them as used.?
Just something that's puzzled me as I see Good Bikes sold to these companies and nothing after...
But helped when I buy my next bike what to check over ✌️
Typically they go for sale at dealers after being checked over at the workshop as well. Cheers, John
looseness?
John what is the new bike you are going to buy? Or are you just running test bikes ?
Sierra Nevada MT-10. Also running test bikes but owning my own is really important
@@bennettsbikesocial when you were checking the back brake, you did it from the left hand side but it looked like you were pressing something by the front brake. Later on you checked the rear brake with your right foot as on most bikes. Do these bikes also have a rear brake by the front brake?
@@86Bilal2k8 I'm not sure what you mean, sorry! At 09:40 the bike is rocked forward by holding the front brake leve (right bar) and then pressing the rear brake pedal on the right. Cheers, John
Thanks👍
Forgot to check the prostate though...
is it me or is the seat a little "off"
Impressive 4 mm break pads thickness.
How funny it sounds with that accent.😆
Shouldn't it be five thirty-two's of an very imperial inch? 😎
Engine oil is kinda important.
Don't forget about Esa
Vin nu,mber?!
Jack the bike up on the exhaust!!! Really?
You're not picking the whole bike up, just giving support against the stand, but it's something you have to be very careful doing, especially if the bike has a notoriously weak side-stand. Personally, I get someone to pull the bike up onto the side-stand and the front or rear wheel (the opposite to what I'm checking), by holding it on the frame. But again, you have to be careful. John
bmw boxer motor juses som oil
Great stuff...might add to check all the electrics such as signal lights, brake lights, head lamp(s), horn etc. If the previous owner could not be bothered replacing bulbs, probably skipped some basic maintenance as well. I like the thorough inspection of tires but should have included suspension though a test ride would sort that out.
Checking all the lights, horn and hand control was the very first thing he did. You didn’t watch the video
