Youre arguably the best , as far as i can tell...in this space. No pun intended. lol. Cant believe i wasnt subscribed. Its my policy to do so on every channel as im considering being a utube. But i look at many different , mostly scientific health and business material so i may have overlooked it. Aerospace is a lifelong passion so thanks for your continued contribution. And maybe some others will follow the policy of support altho id say you are doing quite well. Bravo.
Ok
Tim dod when are u going down to starbase?
I sure hope it gets further along than the previous one.
If Space-X isn't blowing something up on a regular basis, they're probably doing it wrong....
They F*** it up, they blow it up, and they learn more from their failures than they do from their success!!!
TBH I really miss more frequent content from your channel and while I find the "regular" spacex channels that do videos twice a week and therefore scrape for content to be boring, I really like you doing this one. This is important, info dense, and up to your usual quality. I think you could do more of these, when there's real news to share :)
absolutly, i dont care that a worker changed a toilet seat AJ684 in toilet b43
@@l4bells851 I thought it was AJ687 😜
The best weekly update channel for a nice summary is Marcus House - he's excellent. Also the (mostly) weekly in depth dives is RGV Aerial Photography with their really great 'Starbase Weekly' live streams.
@@SlartiMarvinbartfastI do love watching his stuff but since I've been following along for long enough on space news I'm mostly interested in those seriously-pushing-the-envelope events. I'll probably keep watching him but it would be sweet if Tim did more regular coverage. I love his style and polish on everything
Highly recommend 'Starbase Pink' great brief daily reports
Thank you for making a shorter video that I can actually watch on a whim.
I second this, for how short of a time it was, it's really enjoyable
+2, love the shorter format material just as much as the long form. Great work, Tim and team!
Agreed
Short term is fine but shouldn't be the regular:)
Like Harris Bomberdude, I think the ideal EDA video is 3-4 hours long
Cannot wait for launch day! GO STARSHIP!
Gotta love exploding stuff.

This will be so exciting, really hope to see booster and ship reentry!
@@XxDramaticBatubruh
Indeed. I'll be watching for sure. 🤩
CZcams has a lot of enthusiasts posting weekly updates. Some of them are interesting, but YOURS is by far the best produced and has the highest quality content. I will be there watching your livestream whenever it occurs.
10 years watching youtube space enthusiasts , I am starting to question if it is still about space and science, or turning into some sort of cult. Total lack of criticism, constant pandering, turning every launch into sermon, framing failures and great success ..
Thanks for the timely update, Tim!
IMO, surviving re-entry is the most important test. If the heat tiles don't work (or just fall off), or the mass to surface area ratio is too large for it to bleed off enough speed before it hits the thickest parts of the atmosphere, then it's a serious problem. That's not something that software updates or slight adjustments to hardware will fix. It's critical to the whole point of starship that it can survive re-entry.
They've been working on launching the rocket and staging, not reentry. I'd hardly be calling something which isn't even a focus of IFT3 'the most' important test let alone important at all. They will work on improving heat shielding when reentry is a primary focus.
The latter problem would be kind of shocking; that's something that should've been nailed down decently close during design of the vehicle. It wouldn't be surprising to see them explore exactly how much margin they have for losing tiles without things melting at some point. It makes a pretty big difference, e.g. for rapid reuse and not repeating the fate of the space shuttle, if losing 2 adjacent tiles threatens the vehicle vs if it can survive loosing a dozen+ in one area.
On this trajectory they can´t even really test the heat shield.
So whether or not the tiles detach will make no difference to the ship surviving reentry or not. It does not get hot enough to fully compromise the steel tank walls.
The real test is the hypersonic stability and steer-ability of the ship.
They have already begun design work of starship version 2. The data they gather from these test, including the heat shield, will influence the design.
If burning up on re-entry is the only issue that’s not an issue. Worst case scenario in that case is learning plenty more from 3 more launches of version 1 even if they all burn up. Version 2 will likely fly before the end of the year. They are not planning on trying to catch a booster or land a starship until after v2 has flown a few times.
@@FireStormOOO_ True, but aerodynamic modelling at hypersonic speeds is notoriously difficult and unreliable. It's difficulty was a major problem with the shuttle throughout it's life, and starship's belly flop is rather shuttle-esque. It's also problematic design-wise because it's the _last_ thing you can test. You can do static fire tests of engines, but you can't do ground tests of hypersonic re-entry. Which means that you have to work on getting everything else working near-perfectly, and only then can you see if there are serious issues with it.
I have no doubt that fuel sloshing and the like could be fixed with minor changes relatively easily. But if there big problems with re-entry? Back to the drawing board. That's why I see it as the only major question mark remaining as to Starship's viability as a vehicle, it's the only place where near insurmountable (or surmountable only with serious compromises) difficulties might remain.
WHOA, Tim's back in the business of making update videos? We finally have the perfect trifecta of purely update videos with WAI doing 2x week of super deep dives, Marcus House 1x week going a bit broader and Everyday Astronaut coming in once a month or two with a ultra-brief and concise summary. It's a good day to be alive and following spaceflight!
Why would you watch WAI or House when you could get less annoying content from RGV Aerial, Lab Padre, CSI Starbase, and even NSF?

@@KeandeLacy let him watch what he wants, while I am not the biggest fan of his videos they can be helpful.
Everyone has a certain amount of spare time, so a range of You Tube channels is helpful to us all.
I refuse to be drawn into 'who is the best', because the user is the one, whose precious spare time is going to to determine 'who the best is' for their needs. And what their angle of interest too, will determine what suits them best.
I would not be surprised to see this thing complete its flight profile as planned. I'm really looking forward to seeing this happen.
BUHUHUHUHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
We also shouldn't be surprise if it blows up at just about any point in it flight profile.
Yeah the do a reasonable target and lauch as soon as they can hit it.
That's the basis of their quick development cycle.
@@sparksmcgee6641 Yep. They're going for maximum kabooms on the tax payer's dime as possible. Can't support our schools or help get under-nourished kids fed, but lots of spectacular rocket failures, even though they've got the blueprints which the Apollo programme left us, they can't even figure out how to get it into orbit? Well, at least we get a really great spectacle out of it when it explodes.

Currently celebrating 3,years 2 months and 27 days for being a supporting member. Thx for everything
Very excited for IFT-3.Hoping for some cool onboard footage.
Thanks Tim and team. This was a great balance between detail and being concise with several changes covered.
Great video! Love your short stuff too. Bite size with the great quality we've come to love and appreciate!
Great summary thanks man, love your fast pace and great visuals
Same with you on predictions. Hoping to see booster “survive” and for ship to at least make it to reentry.
We NEED Starship to work by now too.
@@billhanna2148 Nah. We're way past that time. The original schedule had him landing on the moon by now. Really all we're doing now is playing with really big fireworks, because in reality, the project is a failure. Late and over budget. Now we're just blowing things up for the fun of it. Gotta do something with all that grifted money. We don't want the Feds to start looking at it as a Ponzi scheme, now do we?
Thanks for the updates! Havnt been following the program as much lately, this was a super helpful summary! Good luck to spacex for the upcoming test 🙌
This is a really great and concise Starship update! It's much appreciated.
Nice job delivering quality update details. Keep it up
Big fan of the shorter format. Thanks
Tim, you’re killing it! We always love the deep dives, but these intermittent short forms are such a pleasant treat. Keep it up!
Thx for this update Tim! Good luck with your coverage
Great job as always! I love the longer format videos for deep dives, but these shorter ones are really nice to watch on-the-go. Now that SpaceXcentric is bowing out, I think the short updates would really fit in well with your channel.
Sad about SpacXcentric but that's his choice. I still think that between Tim and Keven, they have the BEST intro music to their channels.
Kevin made some questionable choices and said some disturbing things in the early days of SpacXcentric but he seems to have found faith and this will hopefully steer him in the right direction for the future.
Yep, I've had some of your hour videos sit waiting until I have time to concentrate on a full watch.

6:09 couldn't the reason for not attempting a soft landing be that the propellant transfer is moving fuel away from the header tanks, so it wouldn't be able to do it?
He said they're not going to bother with the software necessary for a soft landing until they know Starship can survive re-entry.
@@JPMadden yeah but that’s speculation isn’t it? i highly doubt they haven’t worked on that part of the software.
@@UnbaguettableI'm not saying they've done none of the work. I'm guessing they're skipping just those details that would be necessary for this flight path.
@@JPMadden i mean regardless they can’t do a landing burn if they don’t have fuel in the header tanks.
This makes a lot of sense to me. I was wondering why they wouldn't just have the program in there in case it does make it down to the ocean in one piece.
If they no longer have fuel in the header tanks because of the transfer, that makes a lot sense they wouldn't even go for it.
Love this Tim, highly informative short-form videos are a win for me! Looking forward to joining you for the launch 🚀
Excellent detailed work. Thank you.
Looking forward to your non-X broadcast.
Anyome excited to see another of this beast going up?
Perfect presentation of OFT 3 and what changes in comparison with OFT2. Super clear. Big thanks ! Can't wait for launch day !
Hey nice update Tim, looking forward to a successful launch #3. I can't be there for this one, wishing you the best!
SpaceX seems is focusing right now in starship achieving orbit and logistic readyness for the Artemis program rather than surviving reentry, NASA really must be pushing the buttons
Reusability is necessary for going to the moon. It's going to take something like 12 to 16 refueling trips to starship in orbit before it can depart for the moon..
@@Bryan-Hensley Yes but right now fuel transfer is more important than reusability in order to advance with the Lunar Gateway payload logistics and the Artemis program, sacrificing starships in the firts steps is not out of the question
Just like Falcon 9
One step at a time if two isn't working.
@@radicalxg8282 it's all important. They can't throw away 12 plus ships and boosters just to send one to the moon.
I assume they're launching to the exact same trajectory as last time so that if the Indian Ocean re-entry burn doesn't work for whatever reason, they still have a passive re-entry near Hawaii as a fail-safe, a built-in backup.
That is what I am thinking too but haven't seen anyone confirm this.
Yes, but he forgot to say after the payload door test, a fuel transfert from header tanks to bottom ones. Then retrograde to reach indian ocean or hawaii if engine dont work.
It's more likely they need the fuel in the header tanks to generate extra delta-v to (hopefully) reach the Indian Ocean. It's really a ballistic flight test.
Maybe it will end up on MH370 ;)
Excellent recap of the changes! Short and to the point! Thank You!
Great video Tim. Nice to see you pop back up in my feed.
Need more cow bell!!!
There's basically no chance it will survive reentry and SpaceX surely knows it. Almost entirely because the tiles along the seams are still glued on, and it's understood perfectly well that those tiles will likely entirely fall off. What I'm keen to know is whether the remote splashdown location means there won't be vehicles in the air on hand to document the event visually. For the first two flights, they had these ready to go, but then that was reasonably close to Hawaii. I still want to see that footage.
And a lot less eyeballs to see it belly flop into the ocean.
Most likely, they just want to make it to sub-orbit, test propellant transfer, opening bay door and gather data. It surviving reentry will mostly be irrelevant.
I've not heard anything about it, but they _could_ send aircraft to Diego Garcia or the Maldives...
@@simongeard4824 Exactly. You would think this would be important enough for it. Even if the connection between Starship and Starlink remains good, that'll stop the moment it begins reentry, and it will never come back because the ship will quickly transition to fireball. I _really_ hope they have this figured out.
Love these kind of updates from you!!
Thanks for the update!
Disappointing to hear it's just belly flopping into the ocean
Shouldn't really be a surprise
It isn't. It's raining down into the ocean in millions of hot melted pieces.
Space X not streaming on CZcams just to stoke Elon’s fragile ego is utter madness.
His choice. Besides, we have Tim and NSF for that.
It’s his, I mean it makes sense to drive traffic to X
@@sc1338 it does make sense from Elons perspective, but he’s driving it to a drastically worse product. Space X deserve to be able to operate without pandering to him and his ‘X’ project. Streaming on more platforms means more engagement and exposure for SpaceX
