    Hi Doug,
    thanks for the video. I had the new boat on the water yesterday, but wasn't getting a reading when I was on plane. I figured it was the Y cable. Thanks to your video, I figured out (all by myself

    Was exactly what I was looking for. My old Lowrance unit that I used for high speed crapped out. Now I can add this set-up to my 898c si and still get high speed data. Thanks.

    I use a shoot thru the hull but you can use the XNT 9 20 with the AS SI DB Y Cable if you want a Skimmer type 2D only transducer for on plane speed readings.

    Doug called Humminbird Support Friday 10-27-17 asking about how to find Sonar to check if using 200 MHz or the 83/200. I have the Helix 12 Chirp Mega Si G2N. I was told the unit does that automatically you can't change it. The old units you had to do that manually. So here is where the Humminbird support call got weird. I told the lady I am using the Y cable and a 2D High Speed transducer and the Si Transducer. I was trying to find the Sonar settings on the menu of my unit, which I was told aren't there. Then the Humminbird Support person tells me High Speed transducer is what it means. The unit uses the Si transducer for sonar but when you get up on plan the unit switches to the high speed transducer. I told her basically what you're explaining in this video and she told me no. The unit uses the Si transducer till you speed up and then it changes to the high speed 2D transducer. I posted to a Helix group and several of the people said what I already thought Sonar is all on that 2D High speed. I have had a number of support calls to Humminbird and it seems their people just don't know what they are talking about. Really terrible support. I had a Garmin EchoMap 94SV and made a number of calls that were always really good information except one email.

      With CHIRP you do not have single frequencies rather frequency ranges and are called low, medium and high range. 200kHz is in the high range and 83kHz is in the medium range. If you want these frequencies set the CHIR 2D to Medium/High

    Doug, I just purchased a xnt 9 20 t transducer for a 788ci hd hummingbird, the depth is flashing from 50 to 350 feet while in 5 feet of water, my transducer cable has five pins and the new one that the manual says I need is three pins. Can you help with this problem, can't see bottom.

    Doug, I am new to this all and trying to get it right to start. I have a helix 7 G2 Chirp Si GPS , I want to mount my Si transducer just right for slower speeds and want to mount an additional transducer to get high speed readings with the Y-Cable. What do I use?

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  Před 5 lety

      XP 9 20 is shoot through the hull or XNT 9 20 or XNT9 20T is transom mount.

    instead of using a specific dual beam for your 2nd transducer, can you use another side imaging since the 2 cable port is only going to power the 2d sonar?

    Doug. Having a high speed skimmer transducer installed so I am able to get depth readings when running on plane. How do I switch from my Gen 2 Helix 12 Si transducer to my high speed skimmer when I’m running and gunning?

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  Před 5 lety

      There is no switching with Y Cable. It splits the 2D readings to the 2nd transducer all the time.

    Doug, Last fall while fishing Truman Lake, I broke my 598 SI mounting bracket(fortunately not the transducer itself). In the short term, I've been using an extra 598 SI transducer that I have in the bottom of the boat with a small sandbag on it. When I re-mount the external transducer, can I continue to use the extra SI transducer inside the boat or do I need to get a dual beam 2D? If I need the 2D, do you happen to know the model number for the 598

    Hi Doug....What cables/adapters do i need to hook up the following transducers to a single unit HB 859ci HD DI. I have the transducer in the Minn Kota Terrova 80 US2 and the XNT 9 DI T that came with the HD 859 c HD DI Will i need the ts3 switch to toggle back and forth between transducers or will the AS SI DB Y adapter work? I did see on one of your post that ou mentioned it did not work on DI...I have seen a few websites that post that they do...i trust you more but just wanted to clarify...:) thanks!!!

    Hi Doug. Thanks for breaking this down. I have watched a lot of your videos and they're very informative. I do have a question. I just received my boat and I had a helix 10 mega installed and also had them install the two transducers with the y cable. Now what I am wondering is where my chirp data will be coming from, and will I loose out on the chirp data as it will be routed through the high speed transducer. Thanks

    Hello Dough, I have been using the SIDB Y cable for a few months. Recently I started having problems getting depth reading once I exceed 5 mph. The system often jump around from the correct depth to outrageous number reading (+,-) sometime it gets stuck on the incorrect depth reading. Do you have any thought on what could be causing this problem? Am wondering if I should try another Y cable or replace the hull transducer?

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  Před 8 lety +1

      Most likely it is the transducer or transducer installing. Remove the Y cable and plug it directly into the unit. If it does the same test the transducer and reinstall or replace

      The SIDBY Cable is the same for Core Series and Gen 1 HELIX. Gen2 HELIX is different.

    Hey Dough. If a helix 9 SI is used with the XNT ducer and also the XHS ducer, the Y cable is required. But if I need to increase the length between the Y cable and XNT ducer and also the length between the Y cable and XHS ducer, which cables will be required. Both ducer will be transom mounted. And what distance should be kept between the ducers to avoid cross returns.

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  Před 8 lety

      +Mark D' Costa Are you splitting 2D sonar or you using a Left and a Right SI TRansducer that is the only y-Cables available. They limit powering crystals by wire to each transducer what it can do. Y Cable plugs into unit if you need additional length you will need to purchase the Transducer Extension Cables from Humminbird.

    • @markdcosta7789
      @markdcosta7789 Před 8 lety +1

      Doug Vahrenberg. Txs for the info. Also got some help from HB. They advised to get a 2D ducer for high speed and XHS ducer for hdsi troll speed. My previous set up of hooking XNT and XHS was totally wrong according to HB, as I wouldn't get any high speed on both.

    Does Humminbird make a wire to run 2 screen with 1 transducer? For example : I want to run a Hexli 7 as a main one and have a Helix 5 to mock the Helix 7.. I know is a waste of time but I might enjoy looking at 2 screen..

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  Před 6 lety

      You can only have one unit powering a transducer. But if you have Ethernet compatible units you can share data created from one to another. HELIX 5 is no and only HELIX 7 G2N is networkable.

I want to replace the ID 600 unit with my new Humminbird 698ci si hd unit. can I use the original 2D transducer with the new 698 unit for down imaging while running boat on plane using the Y cable or do I need to remove the epoxy mounted 2D transducer?

    hi doug. First of all congratulations for your videos. they are awesome.
    i am from brazil and i have a doubt i think you can help me
    i am buying a hummingbird 899ci hd si to use with my terrova us2 55lbs i-pilot link
    is it possible to install the si transducer that comes with the 899 on the back of my boat and run a cable to the front and to my console? like a cable to divide the si transducer output in 2 lines.
    Is there a way to do so without buying the humminbird trolling si transducer?
    i mean that because i wanna have the side imaging capability while using my trolling motor and also while navigating with my boat (trolling out of the water). I wanna get the humminbird screen and put into the ham mount in the front while fishing and put into de console while navigating.
    I don't know if you can understand what i want but i hope you can help.
    thanks in advance.

      Setting up 2 Stations is not a problem. You will need a US3 Graph Switch to switch which location gets the transducer data. www.humminbird.com/Products/US3/
      You will also need another power cable, RAM Base and Cable Collector to make the second station set up.

    Hi doug, which transducer are you using for the 2d skimmer? I have a XNT 9 20. I am wanting to use it as my 2d transducer for my new 998 c HD Si. Will it work?
    On the XNT 9 20 package is says it is compatible with 917, 931, 937, 957. But that's it.

    For the XNT 9 20 T Humminbird says it is compatible with 1157, 1158, 1159, 1199, but 1198 is not on the list?
    Thank you in advance!

    Hey Doug! I enjoy all your tips and tricks videos! I have a question though. So if I understood correctly, If I have a 999ci hd si bow mounted with the hdsi transducer mounted on the jack plate, can I also run a XTM 9 20 T on the Trolling motor without needing a y cable or any other additional setup? Will it mess any other readings up? Thank you!

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  Před 9 lety

      You would need the AS SI DB Y Cable to connect to the unit but will work for the described install. My question why not install the HDSI on the Trolling Motor? It's an awesome tool!

    • @YZdirtboy
      @YZdirtboy Před 9 lety +1

      Doug Vahrenberg my plan is to put a 959 up front and move the 999 to the console eventually. I also put the hdsi at the back so I could have readings when I pull up on an area and check it out before I decide to fish it or not. I appreciate the input!

      banhtrang99 I mounted this Y cable on my Helix 10 G2N with a glassed in 2D puck. The Side imaging and 2D both work, the DI does not. I know the SI and DI run independently now, the older units shared the data. Not sure if this is where the failure is coming from. Maybe a switch would be a better choice. The commentary in this video states side and down imaging, though the document being displayed does not. The document is correct.

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  Před 5 lety

      The G2N Models require different Y cable since they have dedicated DI elements in the transducer. This is for Gen 1 and Prior Models of Humminbird.

    • @TxBigball
      @TxBigball Před 5 lety +1

      Doug Vahrenberg you are correct. I originally bought the AS SIDB Y cable, mentioned here. After researching the new required cable for the G2N is a 9 M SIDB Y cable in case anyone else is looking.
