Gil, I can never express the gratitude I feel toward you and your wife. Watching your videos has made a drastic improvement in my ability to break birds.
Me too.
I like how you have the cadence of a pastor. Preaching the gospel of shotgunning
I just want to say my wing shooting has really improved over the last few seasons after watching some of your videos and practicing some of the tips provided. Thanks!
Gil, I first started trap back in 2014 or so. I saw your videos but it was a lot to take in. I just went out yesterday for the first time in 5 years. I have never had so much fun missing targets, lol. After watching all these videos, it all clicked. the ones I missed was either because I did not match the speed of the bird OR I did not have a consistent mount. Took me till the second round to get it all together. It takes a bit to get used to hitting without looking down the barrel. Thanks a bunch! In a few weeks I will try 5 stand.
I have never had any formal shooting instruction The theory is very interesting and my sporting shooting has improved, thank you Gil
Gil, I can tell you are a passionate natural born teacher. I haven't shot for over 30 years, after only a couple of shooting sessions using a couple of your tips I am really starting to break some clays again. A very grateful thank you! I hope to take one of your classes in person soon.
"You gotta dance with that gun!" Hahahha hahahha amen!
Great lessons here. Thank you for sharing these Gil.
Sir, thank you for an excellent video. You speak and teach like my father did..God rest his soul. I have become complacent not only in my shooting accuracy but my own protection.
A recent "attempted" home invasion jerked my awake.
Now it's practice, practice, practice...and more practice.
Thank you for your time and sharing your experience.
👍❤🇺🇸
Love watching your videos, NEED LOTS MORE !!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Gil, very informative
This is a GREAT video!! Please keep up the fine work.
That little animation just set off so many light bulbs. Awesome!
"They've done studies you know, 95% of the time it works everytime"
Well done..! Thank you for sharing this knowledge.
GIL ASH you are the best thank you .......
Thanks for the advice.
Will try it next weekend on the ranch.
Shared this with friends today... this video alone helped me improve greatly & I suggest all beginners follow this instruction & also to take a professional lesson/coaching at least once per year.
Great simulation Gil.
Excellent! Most of my shooting is layout shooting for ducks and I've found mounting in front of the crossing duck substantially improved my shooting.
This immediately improved my hit rate. Thanks for diagnosing the sighting problem, although I came here for mounting.
In a nut shell, the animation simply highlighted the gun hold point was wrong, to close to the view point. That's why the UK CPSA method recommend that all targets are shot with a 50% hold point, this eliminates all the panic Gil is talking about. 50% hold point, mount on the target at the hold point, follow the target and pull away slowly at the break point, it is the most consistent method for crosses!
This is cientificly amazing... Love this lessons... Thank you so much Gil... Regards from Portugal...
I think this is by far the best explenation I have seen so far. I am currently doing my hunting license and I struggle alot with hitting the bird as I am always behind it by just a tiny fraction, I will try this next time and tell you about it
Love watching this guys videos very informational like to meet him
Tip: Watch this at 1.5x speed, makes the awkward long pauses much more bearable. Great video though and some amazing advice! thank you :)
@@Yankeeprepper OK boomer
I shoot with quite a few guys who think they are experts, that start with another word that starts with a C 😂 great vid, keep up the great work sir! Very informative as always 👍🏻
Outstanding video! And what a great speaker---I could listen to Gil all day.
Mr. Ash really does make some of the best videos lol Down to earth and packed full of knowledge.
Awesome preach
I'm a 3 week novice and after watching your clip I left it feeling informed and educated - made me laugh too!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Is that "mantained lead" technique?
Is that eficient on all targets??
Thanks.
Love you Gil....
Exelent
just awesome
mlbosman7 first back when that didn’t matter though
The three bullet drill i.e. the three cup drill, helps make the shooter comfortable mounting the gun ahead of the bird while the eyes are focused ON the bird.
A lot depends on the nature of the pairs. Generally, I shoot a lot of pairs like a modified report pair. After breaking the first bird, I drop the gun a fraction of an inch to a modified "soft mount" as I move the gun barrel to the second hold point. This frees my head and eyes to move most effectively to find the second target. That said, on quick pairs with the birds close together, it ALMOST appears like you're staying in the gun the whole time.
What choke do you use or suggest?
What about in a true Pair? You mount the gun on the first bird but then have to find / and get in front of the second one with the gun already mounted. So it seems you are using one method for the first target and a different method for the second. Or am I not looking at this the right way?
I've never been able to achieve 95 percent 100% of the time but I've been able to do 100 percent 95% of the time.
Hello. How does one apply this to the Olympic Trap Discipline?
you are my teacher
Simple but hard......much practice consistency is the key!
George Digweed is the Michael Jordan of Sporting Clays. He comes from behind the target almost every time. You don’t need to hold your gun and eyes at the same spot as in the animation. Move your gun out wait for the target to pass, mount and swing thru the bird and pull the trigger. Gun speed creates the lead.
Wonderful explanation, but what if I want to break it halfway when it comes for skeet doubles? I don' spend those 99% leading the bird.
100% true
That animation was me about a month ago except I was shooting behind
i dont think most shooters miss ahead of the bird on a passing shot
Spend the time and a semi truck load of shells
i just learned that shooting is an expensive sport.

The hold point is too near tha trap on the animation, right?
95% perfect 100% of the time? Hmmmm
In your second animation, your eyes, the green dot, were never on the bird but always ahead. The gun was always on the bird and never ahead. Or am I missing something?
M
Used to be really good at shooting Clay's, but think I picked up some bad habits hunting ducks
Dance with the gun.
Maintained lead is a poor way to shoot if you want to be consistent
Gil is one sexy man 👨 love you gil
ever considered slowing your speech down a bit? maybe add a few pauses? great presentation and great info though!
I feel targeted watching the first video
Needs work
This guy is good, but unfortunately he reminds me of Bill Clinton.
Good advice but very annoying presentation !!
Why does he look down every 5 seconds? Is he reading cards or is it just an annoying social habit?
Wow, I wish I could understand half of this. Yes I speak English as a primary language. Also, it seems to go from screaming to a barely audible mumble. What a shame.
