Fun fact (not really) about tuberculosis. Once you have it it’s forever. I have it. I'm glad you included trichotillomania, because the urge to pull my hair is like wanting to quit an addiction to some drug but not being able to without more help. No, you can't just tell someone to stop. They'll just pull their hair in a private space, like the bathroom.

That's how I feel towards dermatillomania, i swear the "just stop" argument is the worst. If I could, there wouldn't be scars everywhere. I have dermatillomania and my partner has trichotillomania. Sometimes if one of us is really doing it a lot, the other will grab their hand or ask if they are OK, because it might mean we're feeling more stressed than usual and it knocks us out of the trancelike picking/pulling state. But otherwise, we don't bother saying anything to each other because we know what it's like to have something similar, that sometimes you just start doing it automatically, and how pointless and annoying it is when people demand you stop.

There are therapies to treat it btw. Just like any fear, it can absolutely be at least limited in severity. This does not always have to be exposure therapy either. Typically there is an underlying reason for the fear- it’s more likely than not trauma (not saying it is for you). Treating that underlying problem helps agoraphobia sm. You don’t have to let it control you forever. When you’re ready, try out therapy for it! Almost all types of therapies used to treat it can absolutely be done online as well so you don’t have to leave your safe space

The BPD one reminded me of how my therapist brushed off my suggestion that I most likely have it because I’m usually emotionally numb.. I’m emotionally numb because I’m on antidepressants ffs. Before I was able to start antidepressants, someone who is diagnosed with BPD said that there’s a very high chance I have it since I show EVERY common symptom daily. When I finally started antidepressants, I was emotionally stable for the first time in around 5 years, it felt nice to not have frequent mood swings and extreme reactions to people not wanting to hang out and such. The downside is that since I’m on antidepressants, it suppresses a lot of the symptoms I have so my therapist highly doubts there’s a chance I have BPD. I’m kinda annoyed about it because as a 13 year old I was so desperate to avoid someone ik leaving my life that I freaking consciously manipulated and gaslit them into staying in my life as a friend. That’s not normal behaviour and neither is being very heartbroken when a friend no longer wants to be a friend even if we barely interact. I’m seriously considering going off my antidepressants to show my therapist how my mental state usually is without antidepressants suppressing my emotions and such. Edit: just want to say I’m currently 16, will be 17 later this month. My symptoms are usually brushed off as either hormonal stuff cause I’m AFAB or because I’m still a teenager.

Someone with derealization disorder here. Been like this for 12+ years with no sign of it getting any better. I feel like I'm piloting my own body in the third person and stress/anxiety, strong emotions, and grief just exacerbate the disconnect. My family doesn't even feel familiar to me anymore, and most of my interactions with people feel artificial. I would love to stop feeling this way, but I have yet to figure out how.

A few things I have were mentioned towards the end of the video, but the one that really stood out is someone actually mentioned dermatillomania. It’s not talked about as much as it should be. I have so many scars all over me and it’s been years since I’ve had no open wounds on my skin. It’s like an addiction. It’s calming and sometimes satisfying and impossible to stop. I haven’t been officially diagnosed but all of the scars and wounds on my skin make it pretty obvious. It’s so obsessive and takes up hours of my days. It’s such a huge struggle. I’ve had an ex’s mom joke about me having syphilis and some people think I’m on meth. I don’t have the confidence to wear tank tops because my arms are currently the area affected the most by it. I’ve tried so many things to stop and nothing really works. The only solution I’ve been given so far is to just rub cera-ve on my skin. It’s a constant worry about infections. I have ugly puffy scars because I pick at them at the smallest fleck or blemish, I have a few keloids, my pillows have been stained with spots of blood, and I have shirts I can’t wear anymore because they have spots of blood. It’s so painful and uncomfortable. During especially bad flare ups my arms get so red and painful. I’m currently working on my confidence and acceptance of the scars by kind of calling each scar a star and how I can create constellations by connecting the dots. It’s a debilitating thing and definitely isn’t talked about enough

TB or Tuberculosis is not as highly infective as once thought. You aren't likely to get by passing someone who has it or by waiting in line with them at a grocery store. You are more likely to get it if you are a nurse or work in the medical field with direct contact over many hours, or if you are homeless or a person in prison.

@lithunoisan True, I hadn't thought of that, but you would still need close contact for longer than a few minutes to get it unless you're immunocompromised.

hmm, i was a hypochondriac when i was younger, which definitely didnt help my developing/worsening depression starting at 11 anyways. like around 15 i thought i had anemia due to constant and difficult to manage drowsiness, starting typically around 6 hours after i last slept, more than 4 days a week, as well as always being cold. but probably just due to my weight and malnutrition at the time. and kidney disease due to it being genetic and most commonly develops in adolescence. and a symptom in later stages being more time sleeping than being awake. i always felt pain in this area too but thats just cramping from chronic constipation and dehydration

Hypochondria is actually more debilitating than what people think.
It’s not just paranoia, it is a LITERAL fear of illness. You can even have risky obsessive compulsive behaviours due to it.
My late uncle was a hypochondriac, and when he was actually diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, he went into a full fledged psychiatric breakdown and couldn’t be alone with his medicines because he would push the doses higher than informed out of desperation to not die, he even tugged and pulled on his own skin and hair. He was never ever the same again, and despite his severe hypochondria, he was a pretty amazing, down to earth guy and a creative painter. That all changed after his diagnosis and was just so defeated.
He passed away peacefully in his sleep 7 months after diagnosis. But those 7 months were the most scariest and painful months of our family’s life because of his own issues.
