It depends. Normally the games where I’ve won as duke or supporting him, there was a group fighting at the front and a group at OBJ. One good push from the enemy team and you’re dead if no one’s with you.
Spreading them out does work though
If you have a team that understands that you can't just sit on the Duke and have to be pushing them back constantly then you can relax as a Duke and just do nothing. But most pub games you gotta take the responsibility as vip to make sure your team is pushing up.

No the Duke and heir don't get buffed weapons. They don't get stunned when hit though so they can tank attacks
@@Nuggz1 THANKS Yeah the part about not get stunned is something I noticed indeed. It's pretty good cause you can be sure you always get your attack out, also heavies., at the risk of taking damage of course. Does make blunt weapons better especially for these champions

Best way to play Duke is to press F5 when prompted. Double it and give it to the next guy.
Yeah it is good to give it the second place guy if you are used to getting all the time. I do take it if we are getting stomped and won't win otherwise.

Hard disagree on running around the middle like you did. You loosing 25% health almost immediately is actually a nice demonstration of why this is a terrible idea. If you have half a brain dodging the occasional firepot in the corner is not difficult. If the enemy team wasn't full off noobs and had some high level players actually gunning for you this could have gone badly.
Also disagree on the weapon choice. It's just bad for 1vx and when your live is actually in danger you will be in a 1vx or close to it. If you use the pillars you do not need a shield.
Like sure don't literally crouch in the corner like you see some players doing. That will get you killed. But absolutely stay in the back if you want to tryhard.
You can win doing both. If you want to hide in the back and switch sides based on where the enemy is spawning you can do that as well. But I have gotten Duke over 100 times and I'm telling you that if you stay in the back you will have teammates getting in your way and they will be the ones to trap you most of the time. I like having the freedom to move around and if you take some damage the back is always there to fall back on. Doesn't really have to be one or the other, you see me fall back there a few times and because I have the enemies split up not knowing where the hell I am, the back is usually pretty clear.
Also the weapon choice is simple. The shield is not only for archers but its essentially and extra 400 health and you can get another one from the wall. The Warhammer is extremely high damage and will destroy anything that pushes you in 2 hits, 1 hit if they are damaged. Even in a 1vX the enemies usually try to stack on top of the Duke so the Warhammer actually has plenty of range to deal with multiple people who are right on top of you.
Not a helpful video, if anyone is gonna be duke it's gonna be a high level who knows how to play
Also I just communicate with my team we have to hold the Frontline, while I get at least 1 good player protecting me

These guides are best for when you have a worse team and need to carry the game a bit which I am usually doing. I linked a more new player type tutorial in the pinned comment for playing Duke.
Pssh stridahs tutorial is better "push outside and lose all your health in 15 seconds" 😂
Hey when you stomp the attack to well that you can do goofy stuff like run outside you know you are good at the VIP. Plus hiding in the back is mad boring.
