Mom: Clean your room
>pshh
Jordan Peterson: Clean your room...
>aight dude
*turns room into Sistine Chapel*
Mom never explained why I should clean my room. "Because I said so". Peterson did.
Or the admiral, a former Navy SEAL, that said "start your day by making your bed" and every day you start by making your bed.
Jordan Peterson: Clean your room.
Jordan Peterson's son: Pshhh..
Also Jordan Peterson's son: Aight, dude.
@@vborovikov Well, not everyone has a reason for everything. Maybe your mom just prefers an organized room to a messy one.
peterson's kid - "but i don't want to clean up my room..."
peterson - "you're weak. you're weak and you're loving it. where's your sense of aim? what are you aiming to achieve in your life? you're a liar and there's nothing you can do about that right now, but cleaning your room is a start. what are your goals? do you even have any goals? do you know your moral obligations? stop your self-induced suffering right now, you're a puppet. you want out of your self-destruction and misery? clean your local landscape.. clean your damn room"
peterson's kid - "i will clean my room"
yikes
dank :)
Mank Demes you nailed it ☺️
roughly speaking, you just have to sort yourself out, bucko
I spent 7 hours clearing up my room today. Im 26.
Jordan is essentially providing counselling to an entire generation of lost young dudes.
It's pretty awesome tbh.
Some lost young females, too
Deplorable Citizen
very disturbing
He's doing what need to be done. The world needs more people like that.
Sounds an awful lot like something a cult leader would do.
He's our generation's Obi Wan Kenobi.
Mom: Clean your room!
Me: Ughhhhhhh
Jordan Peterson: Clean your room!
Me: Intriguing! Tell me more!
Right?! *replays the video 5 times*
cuz ur mom hasnt done shit with her life lol
That shows you the position of mothers in Western society.
@@granada1493 no it doesn't. It shows you that people resist doing what they're told to do, unless they have chosen to take someone's guidance. You're on this video because you chose it. If JP burst in your room, before you knew he was someone you wanted to listen to, and demanded you clean your room there's little reason to believe you'd do it.
czcams.com/video/hsQLksbfDSo/video.html
Lol the charisma channel took my comment 7:48.
My theory on this is:
Whenever you enter a messy room you look at it and think "I need to clean it up". Then immediately "I'll do it later" or "I don't care" or "screw it" or "can't be bothered". Every time you do it, you strengthen the mental circuits responsible for "I don't care". Give it enough time and it will be completely subconscious so that you react by "I don't care" to lots of things without ever realising you are.
Slawomir Chmielewski wise words, thank you
This is it for me. Thank you. Procrastination runs so deep it's not even funny. It even manifests as a messy room, like a microcosm of my scattered subconscious mind.
True. When even the space you come to to rest isn't worth the effort, what is?
Yes, that's very true and well said!
+Slawomir I disagree. I know Peterson is not making a statement on an objective standard of mess and probably he mean with cleaning your room to clean your room according to your own dissatisfaction with your current layout. But the way you wrote the comment is different. If you´re concluding thought is "I don't care" then perhaps you are not agreeing really with that it is a mess. If your ¨I don´t care¨ is just an excuse for yourself, I agree with your comment, but really really explore your ¨I don´t care. It could be you really dont care, and that your "I need to clean it up" is based on a societal norm. There is not an objective mess.
My room and house is very very messy to the standards of most people, but according to me there is just zero zero mess by definition.
A leaf in the forrest on the ground is not considered messy, but leafs on the floor in a house are considered messy. A logic is that an item that does not ¨belong¨ in a certain place is considered messy. My room is my place, it´s impossible for someone else to consider that something can or can´t belong in my room.
Just like a leaf is not messy in a forrest, my clothes lying around on the floor, efficiently using all the empty space i myself paid for, can´t be considered a mess. If someone does consider it a mess, he/she would claim somehow ownership of my room. The only person deciding if something should belong in his/her room is the owner of the room.
Once I had a very happy time in my crazy room setup at the time. I had SAND on the floor. I made a caveroom with sand on the floor and rounded the corners with plastic.
Sand normally is considerd dirty. In my room it was considered clean.
*Okay, dad.*
Wished my dad had taught me half of this stuff. Or just, you know, being a man.
right?! lol except i'll never ever admit it to anyone except random youtuber's but i hate that a lot actually makes sense or is right, especially now that i've entered my thirties
Same. Although I'm beginning to think part of the reason he hadn't was either because he wasn't taught those things himself or, if he had, he was too angry at his own father for neglecting other things to really listen to the few things that he could have been so useful.
When I really think about it I realize all the times that I have similarly been stubborn of some of the advice my own father gave me. Even if he had been a bit hypocritical or pushy, I should have taken some of his warnings more seriously than I did rather than fixate all my effort on avoiding all the mistakes he had made.
Listen to your father.
BarrikadeJT never to late to learn! Dr. P is imparting his gifts for a reason. The professor arrives when the student is ready.
"stop saying and doing things that make you feel weak!"
Luna L I can't, it's what makes me a critical person.
I think feeling weak is a realization that you are lacking something in a way. Like a skill or a mentality.
Realizing that is an important step towards trying to change that.
Dib Sun Tzu: "The superior Man is distressed about his lack of ability."
But what if being near a certain family member makes you feel weak? That's an obstacle you literally can't run from
@@YehudiNimol Excellent question
@@YehudiNimol see, I'm not an expert at this. But hope you wouldn't hate if I share my opinion.
There are many situations in life where any normal person would feel weak and broken, shattered and hopeless, filled with grief...
When JP says "feel weak".. He doesn't necessarily mean a situation like that.
What I think he means is that when you say or do something, it either makes you feel more integrated, oriented, strong and composed or it'll make you feel pathetic, which generally happens when we do something we KNEW we shouldn't have done.
He is basically saying to abide by the conscience.
I mean, just think... If you have a test coming up and you're binging CZcams all day.. That'll make you feel pathetic, whereas if you actually study hard and get prepared, you'll feel more strong and confident.
I want to add something:
While cleaning your room, get rid of everything you don't need!
First, you will find yourself in a very sentimental state
because everything you touch holds a memory.
But sooner than later you will realize that memories can hold you back
and the key is to let go.
What are we without our sentiment?
I agree that holding on to things that hold you back can sometimes be bad for you. But in some cases the loss outweighs the gain. Don't just get rid of things carelessly when they wake emotions that you personally consider invaluable. Be mindful about your decisions, listen to your heart. It's the little things that define the essence of your love for the world and for yourself.
My view is that the memories are really in our heads. We externalise them because we're afraid that we'll lose them if we can't hold them.
Thank you Christian, that made me look at my apartment and room in a completely different way, I feel like I might tackle some of the overwhelming clutter of boxes that aren't even unpacked and I've been here 2 years.........
Yeah I do that with things and friends alike. It isn't such a great idea, I'd suggest you don't overdo it.
don't listen to him, i gave away all my cds and dvds last year and i've regretted it ever since
Tfw you realize Peterson's mission all along was to become the father of all his followers.
or maybe his followers is searching for a father figure
Sapher,
I find that nowadays MANY people are searching for a father figure. People call streamers and CZcamsrs 'dad' over and over, and I believe this is a result of many societies stigmatizing masculinity.
Just my thoughts on it, though.
3lit3gn0m3 perhaps the father archetype is the embodiment of order in that he extends from himself an intelligible structure or "form" to aid in guiding others or society at large. Fathers tend to help their children understand how the world works by embuing them with, as Jordan called, "a well structured philosophy of life" (which is what religions ideally aim to do and what Academia in its ideal state, aims to do)
3lit3gn0m3 3lit3gn0m3 what is a father anyways? To me a father is simply a significantly more mature and learned (at least in one domain relevant to the relationship) masculine figure who provides guidance for you. I'm saying this because I disagree that people searching for father figures constantly isn't strictly a "nowadays" trend. A father is basically mentor that cares about you, so yeah Jordan Peterson is a father figure (imo) but not because people want a father figure, he simply IS one. Good evidence for this is the bond caring teachers have with their students, regardless of age (although it happens more frequently with children because they need more guidance and school is a bigger part of their life). I've had a traditional masculine father provide a lot of guidance and protection for me in life but I still take on other father figures. I think unless a person was taught as a child that a father figure is danger that they will take on other father figures to help develop themselves, regardless of society.

I've maintained a clean room for about 3 months now for the first time in my life. I'm in my early 20s. I've noticed a massive difference. It's pretty gradual, I didn't actually start to notice differences in my life until about 2-2.5 months in. But I'm much more organized, mentally and physically. I've noticed a large decrease in mood swings and episodes of anger. I have a pretty clear vision of how I want the next year or so to go for the first time in a while. Would highly recommend.
Good to hear!

Jordan Peterson is a second, but REAL father to millions of young dudes (and some girls too), that have never had a true alpha male role model, as men are becoming weaker and weaker by the minute.
This guy is exactly what our society needed right now! Make males great again!
Indeed. Thank you Peterson. I'm working out, cleaning my room, eating healthy, out being sociable, active lifestyle now instead of that depression self-loathing, victim garbage.
Psychologist talking points, not conservative talking points. There's really nothing political in this video.
jack bran you aren't listening then.

"alpha" male?
I discovered this on my own a long time ago. It really works for me personally.
Donald Joestar Trump I like your name
Saul Spanco Is this a JoJo reference?
Donald Joestar Trump make it great again
Its true. One way I deal with depression is by starting to list my problems, and starting to solve them one by one. Beginning with the cleaning my house. And from there, it serves as a basis to solve the rest of my problems. Like going through my mail and paying my bills. It opens doors that let me solve other problems, like having a clean house allows me to invite people over like the mechanic to do maintenance on my boiler that I avoided because I was ashamed of people seeing my messy house. I can invite friends and family over and socialize.
Depression makes you feel like youve been snowed in with problems, but the only way to solve them is by grabbing that shovel and start shovelling. Once your porch is clear, then you can start worrying about the bigger issues.
My dad has been saying this for almost 10 years. I don’t know why it takes someone I barely know to deliver this message impactfully.
Peterson is such a babe
Don't be hatin' cuz you ain't him
ok
I have to admit to having a bit of a man-crush on his mind, so yep although I wouldn't put it the way you did I can't disagree :D

My comment was directed at Kayli Friedman, I should have said, sorry for the misunderstanding.
Kayli Friedman , really??? Someone for everyone, I guess.
Some of the dialogues happening in the comments section blows my mind. CZcams being the home for deep, mature conversations is astonishing.
Chaosdude341 then 5 mins later it degenerates into "shut up you nazi"
I have a little intuition that this is connection to JBP's "Stop saying things that make you weak". Saying things that make you weak also makes others weak? I.e. shitposting invites shitposting, while goodposting invites goodposting?
Chaosdude341 how many times must I read this comment or similar. No shit what did you expect?! Watch out everyone we have a level 3 noitecer over here!

Don P JP is anything but those things, get a grip.
I suggest you find an true and ethical psychologist that helps you to find your own path to self-determination and self-knowledge instead of believing guru delivered truths and ending up with a false self.
@darth darth got some sand Every young (and older people) people are feeling like you nowadays because we live in a time when all durable values were substituted by material and financial ephemeral ones, the other has become a mere instrument of valuation by comparison, everybody is running against time in a short-term reality that doesn't allow for long-term planning or creating life narratives (we don't have time to think about life because we are always occupied or "being productive". In a short-term reality relations doesn't make sense. That's why gurus, coaches and daddy knows all figures are making so much success today. People are completely lost. Emptiness, personality disorders, anxiety, depression are all result of the economic liberalism turning everything and everyone into merchandise. People thought that defeating socialist shit they would be better. We ended up with something equally fucked up, but in the other end of the line. I doubt following someone who defends the very political system that generates that reality will help you. Read Byung-Chul Han, John N. Gray and Dany Robert-Dufour to understand our contemporary reality and find a true psychologist that don't deliver pseudo-wise truths and helps you find out who you really are and what you really want or need instead of following a guru.

I started to clean my room because of Jordan Peterson the other day and it's actually harder than it sounds. And it's surprising how different you feel. I also recommend cleaning your pc and phone. Uninstall things you don't use. Delete contacts you will never talk to ect.
I deleted all dating apps and social media apps. I have gone walking outside everyday after work. Its helped get me a better life
so simple and yet so vital
Really sound advise honestly changed my life for the better. It’s a simple step to the right direction and gain motivation for achieving goals. I started this almost a year ago and as a result I started boxing, gained a promotion at work I got back into shape, and even got me through depression, and this all started from simply tidying my room, it affected others in my house too more of my family were cleaner, my mother got back into running after the passing of my Nan, my friends at work are even bettering themselves training in the gym after seeing my progress. If you want to change the world you have to be able to manage yourself. It’s a really good feeling been able to go to your friends and be able to actually help them in different aspects of their lives and this is all because of one simple step to sorting out my life so Thankyou Dr Peterson!!
My god, I love this guy. The guidance on taking next steps and taht the answers will come if you begin the correct processes is SO valuable to hear.

Lol. Good one
Bite-sized Philosophy Exactly!
Cleaning up the room is an excellent starting point. It´s something that is just yours, up to you to decide how to, when to etc., no-one to consider, but more importantly: no-one to blame. If you do it, it´s your success, if you don´t do it, it´s your failure. It´s an excellent starting point because it yields immediate improvement to your life once done, it is of a scope that is manageable, and if it still feels overwhelming, you can do it in bits and start with that desk, or that drawer or that chairdrobe.
So true. Every word. Thanks for posting.
I've noticed too that taking action makes you feel more empowered and cleaning your room a good place to start taking action.
I clean my room while I listen to a Jordan Peterson video -- every time.
man this is it, but the gravity of lethargy / apathy / depression is a bitch. it's fucking hard to construct something that's compelling.
but the only decent choice is to force yourself to outline a rough idea of what might be worth going for, and move towards it one manageable step at a time. see if it makes life meaningful after a while and piece the compelling vision together bit by bit.
its either that, suicide or stay stuck in misery. "for the living there is hope, it's better to be a living dog than a dead lion."
Wilson Definately mate. Good luck on your journey, in ten years everything will fit right into place.
Pilates, no homo.
It did wonders for me.
and my back. lol
Every journey starts with a single step, and before you know it, you'll be 60,000 steps in, and transformed your surroundings in the process. And as with any change in surroundings, we change ourselves, and vice versa.
Suicide is not an option. Stop talking as if it is one, it gives you another reason to think hopelessly.
Wilson What helps me sometimes when I don't feel like doing anything is setting a time limit. OK, I'll do dishes, or work out, or whatever it is, for 10 minutes. Sometimes you end up enjoying yourself and continuing longer, sometimes you don't. But at least you've done something. Depression sucks, but you know it's a roller coaster. Hang in there until it eases up some.
This is very simple, relatable advice, and having a clean home and room is a blast.
Fantastic man. Thank you so much
JP: Clean your room!!!

Best Internet dad i've ever had
I always listen to this when cleaning my home. Thanks Dr Peterson!
This is JP's best message, because everyone can do it and it's hard to argue.
love the guy but do you upload anything other than him? cuz it seems like you might aswell change your channel name to Bite-Size Jordan B Peterson
True
Nothing wrong with that, as most people subscribed for Peterson content. At least I, myself, don't mind.
SESHJonathan I second this. I like Peterson, but the channel name should reflect the content.
I thought it was JP only so I subscribed for that.
You have a point there, but I feel it's a little late to rename the channel. There will be a time in the future when I will have highlighted everything I wanted to and then it's time to expand. First I will stay on this track until I consider this project finished, but until then I still have a big stack of notes in-front of me that I have to work through.
I really didn't know what kind of channel this would end up being when I started and I still don't know what it will end up looking like in a year. I finish things one by one, step by step, that's the only way that works for me right now. Maybe some opportunity will open up along the way, who knows.
I completely understand your point though, thanks for sticking around!
Clean up your room or you'll never become the archetype of the divine, eternal lobster.
this video just changed my life
Love this man and his offered wisdom.
I'll watch what has to amount to 100 hours of lecture from Peterson at this point but I'm not gonna clean my fucking room.
Slay that dragon, man. Be the archetypal hero that creates order out of chaos, or mother nature will devour you.
chaos is not inherently evil
But it certainly has potential for evil, especially when it comes to humans.
Listen to the lectures whilst cleaning your room. Otherwise dust collects under your bed, and creates portals to the underworld through which the snakes of chaos emerge.
Good luck with that, Bucko.
Plato's version of "clean your room" :
When he had done speaking, Crito said: "And have you any commands for us, Socrates-anything to say about your children, or any other matter in which we can serve you?"
Socrates: Nothing particular, Crito, he replied: only, as I have always told you, take care of yourselves; that is a service which you may be ever rendering to me and mine and to all of us, whether you promise to do so or not. But if you have no thought for yourselves, and care not to walk according to the rule which I have prescribed for you, not now for the first time, however much you may profess or promise at the moment, it will be of no avail.
I'm astonished. After this video I got up and cleaned my entire room to the core after putting it off for such a long time. I'm beyond proud of myself.
I just cleaned my room today for the first time in several years. Feels great.
Cleaned up my room :D
Good job son!
this is no joke. I had a couple family members die in the past few years and I've relocated. I've gone through about four households of stuff over the past couple years from things I've inherited. in the past few months I started using the app Letgo. sifting through all of these belongings has actually brought a lot of closure and helped me reclaim my own sanity and sense of belonging and sense of ownership over my own life.
Great advice!
cleaning your room does work. i did it before i even watched this and my mind has been a lot clearer.

I'm cleaning my room right now.
Incredible!
Amazing!
clean your room sounds simple but there is so much meaning in those words, perhaps it depends on how the words are interpreted. It can be applied to just your room or be strategically implemented into your life, and that is the goal of cleaning your room. I began diligently following JP for about 2 weeks now, and i find my chain of thoughts wandering into a better and constructive dimensions, my suicidal fantasy is slowly going into regression (unfortunately i do still dream of it everyday) . Although I'm struggling with my professional career and life's in a financial crisis, being stuck in a dead end job with future looking bleak, I somehow feel that these are external situations that can be investigated and positive steps can be taken. Heres to striving towards happiness.
ys thanku.... im torn between agony and hope
I looked around myself and cleaned up my room. Then I cleaned the others. I had not realised how dirty and messy my house had become.
When i started to watch his videos online, my mind started to change. I begin to see being organized as a way to get started. At the same time, i also stumbled at one of Benjamin Franklin's quote, "“For every minute spent in organizing, an hour is earned.” - Benjamin Franklin.
Cleaning room rn. Thanks, JP.

Not only does creating order consistently in your room give you a clear head, it makes you better at creating order in all other aspects of your life. Every time you clean your room, you give yourself order where it's needed most, and the habit of creating order where it can be strengthened the most - the place you visit every day.
I had a playlist called "Live" where I have been putting in every video I thought of as inspiring. Now this playlist is called "JBP"
3:17 - "Your moral obligation stems naturally from your aims. Once you have aims, you have moral obligations, because the moral obligation is what you need to do to obtain the aim."
Unless you become a criminal. Then you can go after your aims without ANY moral obligations!
You know the cliche phrase "I got sloppy", which some criminals in prison use (in the movies at least)? That's basically them failing their criminal moral obligations.
@Deplorable Citizen
"Crime" is a judgement. Your own morality isn't decided by the people around you, you always choose your own morality, even when you adopt the morality of others. The only morality that exists is the one you accept, because all morality is subjective and personal.
Criminals have a conscience, therefore they usually have their own morals, just like everyone else has their own, too.
That's my problem with it, too. It assumes everyone's goal is something good or valuable.

I love listening to Dr Peterson but this kills me inside. "Your room is an externalization of your mind" is exactly how I developed OCD when I started desperately and obsessively re-organizing my room in a fruitless attempt to compensate for the dumpsterfire that is my mind. Spoiler: It didn't go very well for me, and my room will never be "clean."
Victoria that's not true because it would mean that you'd never stop cleaning even for a second. it also means you will never stop showering(or variants) because you can't get rid of 100% of the germs on your body
You don't need to be afraid of germs to have OCD; I work in a hospital and I'm well aware that your body is more bacteria than it is cells. I'm also not sure what you are referring to as untrue. :)
Victoria I have ADD and my room will never be clean either. Recognizing this is a big step towards a solution to the "messy room". Lowering your standards helps too.
T Kendall I didn't realize that could be a problem with ADD as well!
