  • First time changing a 2018 Hyundai Ionic HSG belt (Hybrid Starter Generator Belt) using the tensioner special tool, this vehicle had 138K miles first HSG belt replacement and it looked in quite good condition no cracks or damage but the grooves were a little worn .
    The tensioner special tool was a little short so I will have to modify it for next time .
    HSG Belt part number 2521203HA0 7PK 994mm

    Here’s a possible useful idea for that tensioner release tool. Change the bolt to one with an Allen head and use a ball Allen attachment to your ratchet. This way you will be able to make the adjustment easily even on an angle. 👍🏻

    How's she goin'? What a gong show this job is eh. Not a 2 minute job for sure. You did a good job and didn't lose your temper even when the 'special' tool didn't work. Nice!!! Take care!!!

    scAmazon strikes again! So much junk being peddled as quality on that site. I try to buy directly from tool suppliers now because you know you're dealing with a human being who has a reputation instead of a cunning algorithm. Thanks for the video!

      100% mate I got done a few times now buying stuff from Amazon , I bought some loctite 2 years ago it arrived and looked like someone mixed PVC glue with blue die , definitely I’m going to avoid Amazon when I can 👍

    I must have the same compression tool. Made a 10 minute job take 40 minutes. Got the tool from Amazon and the bolt and guide pin were 1/4” too short. Top of the tool kept trying to slide off and put a vice grip on the bolt next to the top of the tool to keep it in place. Once the tool lined up and compressed it was easy. Thanks for the video, made me realize it wasn’t me but the tool. Moved the antifreeze reservoir after cutting my hand several times in the tight space.

      More like two hours job for me! Just did it today! The compression tool don't even compress properly. I can take the old belt out easy, but to put a new one in, it is a PITA, no matter how much I tighten the compression tool it just have its limit and my new belt won't fit right away just like in the vid. No matter how i pull the new belt it won't fit. I have to finesse it by turn the crankshaft damper pulley about 1/8 turn to stretch the new belt. thanks Lord it didn't marred the new belt and the new belt just slide right in after I turn the pulleys. All in all it is very unnecessarily hard procedure for serpentine belt! Oh and IDK about you but my compression tool bent slightly after at the lower hook end after I am done with it! Guess just a one time use tool?

    Where did you get that pin to lock the top tensioner in place while releasing tension on the belt?

      Good, you deserve it because you don't even know where to ask let alone know dtc code. This is Ioniq, not Octavia!

    U.S. 2016 Sonata Hybrid 56K miles. Hyundai says 65K mile to replace HSG belt.

      @slothypunk Před 4 měsíci

      Hyundai can say whatever they want. The only way to know is to inspect your hsg belt. Bought my Ioniq in 2017, just replace it today at 90k. The only reason I replace it because I already remove the old belt, so I don't want to do all that work only to put the old one in again. The old belt looks 90 percent brand new and I save it just in case. it is 90 percent because it seems stretched a bit.

    Europe says every 60k or 4 years, at least on Ioniq restyling.
