  • The Year of Return, Ghana 2019 is an initiative of the government of Ghana - along with the U.S.-based Adinkra Group - that is intended to encourage African diasporans to come to Africa (specifically Ghana) to settle and invest in the continent. It was formally launched by President Nana Akufo-Addo[1] in September 2018 in Washington, D.C. as a program for Africans in the diaspora to unite with Africans. The year 2019 is symbolic as it commemorates 400 years[2] since the first enslaved Africans touched down in Hampton, in the English colony of Virginia in America.[3] The program also recognizes the diaspora's achievements and sacrifices in the time since that event.[4][5] Starting from when President Barack Obama made a visit to the Cape Coast in 2009, many famous, respected and admired African-Americans from the diaspora have visited Ghana to discover its culture.[6] The Ghana Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture lined up a slate of activities in "celebration of the resilience of the African spirit."[7][8] Many African Americans shared their stories regarding their experiences in Ghana during the Year of Return

Very recently I've spent 3 months in Ghana. Indeed Ghana felt like home. I was using trotro, eating street food (although as vegetarian it was very challenging), bathing in the bucket, living in a single room etc. I can't wait to return to Ghana for hopefully even longer stay or relocate at some point.
What really shocked me were the prices of rental apartments of European standards. Total rip off. And the fact that as obroni I was seen a atm machine (which was completely wrong assumption). But for the rest, great experience! ❤🇬🇭❤️

A lot of foreigners moves to Ghana and they are able to come up with something to do and earn a living. A Ghanaian graduate leaves the university and goes around complaining that there are no jobs in Ghana. In Europe you meet Ghanaians who profess to have a degree in this or that from Ghana doing a menial job whilst that person could have stayed in Ghana and created something to do to earn a living and have his or her dignity in tact but No. Am not saying no one should leave the country if the chance is there but why should we as Ghanaians leave our Country so peaceful and vibrant for a hostile environment when one can easily start one's activity in our own homes and be fine?. Or maybe we Ghanaians have created a system where foreigners rather benefits and we the citizens not?. Our ancestors have greatly sacrificed their blood to get us where we are now and we should find ways to enjoy the toils of our mothers and fathers and not leave the Country to foreigners. It's never done anywhere and why should we allow that in Ghana?
