  • This video offers some tips & hints based on my personal experience using a coil spring compressor to remove/install coil springs in a 1968 Ford Mustang.

    Thank you for the tips. I think I have the same compressor and was trying to figure out how to keep the grips even. Didn't realize there was an upper and lower hook. Also liked your other ideas. I'm about to install my new springs using all of your suggestions. Thanks to you I now have an informed plan of attack. Thank you for posting.

    First the wife’s jar opening towel and then the broom? I guess you where in trouble for a few days. Thanks for the tips.

      You are SO right that I was in the doghouse with the wife about the jar opener! My mistake was leaving them in the open where she could see them next to the car parts. If the jar opener had just 'disappeared', it would have been an unsolved mystery. lol. That tip will have to be in the next video.

    I'm finally gonna tackle my springs on my 68 cougar, i wanted the internal one like you have but mine has a plate, i am going to try the broom handle trick, i think it was a good idea as i am scared to death the thing is gonna slip and kill me, lol Thanks for the Video!!!

    Hey Scott, how about putting a couple of small hose clamps on the coil for each hook? ( one on each side)

      Sounds worth a try. Given the forces involved, I'm not sure the hose clamps would be able to prevent the hooks from slipping as the coil distorts, but I'd be interested to hear if it worked or not.
