FLARE (THOMAS) TUTORIAL | Master the Flare | Learn to Breakdance

  • This tutorial will describe a systematic approach to mastering the Flare/Thomas without the need for equipment. The flare is a foundational air powermove that works as a great stepping stone to airflares. Although technically less challenging than the airflare, the flare has a larger energy demand and is more fatiguing.

      @@noahoraporfavor2432 The 6-step technique you see in this video is because it's a FLARE tutorial and it is being used as a method to help understand the flare technique (as explained in the voice-over). I'd like people to use flat hands as not to break their thumbs :) This is not a footwork tutorial.

    I've been asking for this tutorial for so long, thank you very much Simon! It's one of the movements I most desire to achieve and always have, especially flares to handstand and back to flare, like Alexei Nemov and most gymnasts do. I'm 6'5 tall (195 cm) and well I'm guessing it will be hard, but now that I know the proper technique with your tutorial, I feel more confident about it.
    Thanks again!

      That said, I am not giving up, I'm 26 now, healing from a severe ankle sprain, my job finally allows me to work out well, so the moment I heal up I'm going to try it again. If I wait any longer I don't think I'll ever achieve it, but I think I have a chance still! Will update in a few years!

    • @kierandaysh8210
      @kierandaysh8210 Před 6 měsíci

      Yes, it was due to a weak shoulder position, and a forarm injury I had sustained, had to fix the injury or take care and not over stress it and work on strengthening the position of the shoulder, dips / exercises using pressing down motions similar to flare. try elevating your legs like a flar position and swap hands for sets to build up some strength. also the position of the but is important, if its too high you will have a large gap before your hand can reach the floor resulting in it slapping or injury. so keep your butt low. @@peteplayz6822

    To anyone wanting to learn how to flare. First you need to do is pay no attention to people saying you need to be very strong. That’s bs. All you need to do is be able to lift your own weight or should I say maintain holding up your weight. Once your arms can handle your weight. Learn the splits this will help those of you that have a hard time keeping your legs apart. The more your legs are apart and extended out the easier is will be. Especially when doing more than one. This will also eliminate the kicking because you will be moving off the pure momentum. When doing multiple flares you should think of it as if you are messing with a hoola hoop.

      No. It’s not. I’m 44 and I have been talked in to going back in to Breakin so I can teach my 9 year old nephew.
      If this is your first time learning you will be fine. It’s much harder when you have done it and than been out for over a near 20 years.
      I started originally in 1992 and was in it til 1997. When I stopped that’s when the air flare started to be a new thing.
      I was 17 years old when I quit. I’m 44 now. I can do most of it but it’s really tough being 250 pounds. I was only a buck fifty when I mastered all of it.
      The most flares I did in my younger years was nearly 50 flares. I had total control when doing them. I could do them in one spot without moving around, I also controlled speed and do them really slow, fast. I could do them from the floor out of a ground shuffle and do them like Simon is doing them.
      To a beginner I would say to get use to stretching. The groin area and the hamstring the entire leg. Both you should stretch a lot to get those legs and keeping them spread. Basically stretch and work as if you’re trying to achieve the splits. A little lifting and curling with the arms will also serve you well. My trouble rigth now at 44 is muscle memory along with. Lack of working out and muscle loss.
      You see as a beginner I will tell you the kick will need to be a good. A good leg whip will give you the gas to perform 1 flare.
      Once you have learned to flare the kick no longer has to be a hard kick. Because naturally you will see that momentum, balance, hand placement are key. I would advise you to go for a good posture first. And if you are a first timer. Get yourself linoleum and get a good 10x10 because you will be all I ever the place Learning. And either put some carpet underneath the linoleum if you don’t got carpet than outside on the grass is fine. You will get beat up a bit that’s why this is absolutely necessary
