FLARE (THOMAS) TUTORIAL | Master the Flare | Learn to Breakdance

- This tutorial will describe a systematic approach to mastering the Flare/Thomas without the need for equipment. The flare is a foundational air powermove that works as a great stepping stone to airflares. Although technically less challenging than the airflare, the flare has a larger energy demand and is more fatiguing.

the tip: starting with the hips low to prevent falling down after kicking was the best i ever got. thanks simon :)
Thanks for teaching us for free.
This movement is amazing.
I concur!
First time seeing Simon doing the six step 😂
@Mohamed Alzikrayeah now I see why he doesn't break: flat handed, crazy arms, touching the floor with his heels 🤣🤣
@@noahoraporfavor2432 The 6-step technique you see in this video is because it's a FLARE tutorial and it is being used as a method to help understand the flare technique (as explained in the voice-over). I'd like people to use flat hands as not to break their thumbs :) This is not a footwork tutorial.
simon over here being a tsundere
5:41 that was sick... a tutorial? :)

Mad skills
I've been asking for this tutorial for so long, thank you very much Simon! It's one of the movements I most desire to achieve and always have, especially flares to handstand and back to flare, like Alexei Nemov and most gymnasts do. I'm 6'5 tall (195 cm) and well I'm guessing it will be hard, but now that I know the proper technique with your tutorial, I feel more confident about it.
Thanks again!
did u achieve it?
@@treatmelikewhitetees1 not even close. I did learn how to muscle up and backflip, but due to work and injuries I barely improved.
That said, I am not giving up, I'm 26 now, healing from a severe ankle sprain, my job finally allows me to work out well, so the moment I heal up I'm going to try it again. If I wait any longer I don't think I'll ever achieve it, but I think I have a chance still! Will update in a few years!
@@alfonsoparrado3112 i hope u improve sir im currently 14 years old doing calisthenics for 4 months i have strength i can do 90 degree handstand push up, v sit and more, after i reach 1 year ill try to learn flare so i can have base strength when doing it
@@treatmelikewhitetees1 well you can literally achieve anything you want with that age and with your current strength it shouldn't even be hard hahaha
I'd recommend though, be smart about it, don't get injured, and try to get the splits, good cardio and basically be a full around athlete, like gymnasts or Simonster are
@@alfonsoparrado3112 i will thank you for the advice sir
IMPRESSIVE
You’re a mad guy … thanks for the tutorial
That's super smooth your Flare ! I make breakdance tutorials as well ! :)
Amazing dude! You make it look sooo effortless. 👏👏👏
Thanks for all the powermove tutorials, theyve been really useful, keep them coming! I love this kind of a teaching approach.

So what's with that profile pic lol
On the pommelhorse
Simon is beast
Thank u!let's do it one day I will get onc LOL🤣
This is so fucking amazing. I must learn this!
What are the prerequisites to start learning this skill? I don't think this is for intermediate calisthenics athletes right? This seems way advanced.
Hey, any tips on the catching hand ( your right hand)? I had an injury a while back and the slapping of that hand on the floor can cause pain, wondering if there is a way to make the transition softer.
i know im a year late but did you find out a better way of catching yourself during the flare? because im struggling with that too.
Yes, it was due to a weak shoulder position, and a forarm injury I had sustained, had to fix the injury or take care and not over stress it and work on strengthening the position of the shoulder, dips / exercises using pressing down motions similar to flare. try elevating your legs like a flar position and swap hands for sets to build up some strength. also the position of the but is important, if its too high you will have a large gap before your hand can reach the floor resulting in it slapping or injury. so keep your butt low. @@peteplayz6822

Amazing tutorial! I need to learn this move but first I have to learn the planche and get more flexible
Back handspring tutorial please.
2:32 recommend socks on carpet.. there goes my new pair of socks.
1:30 air flairs both ways is absolutely insane.
I'm working on my L-Sit strength in calisthenics just to learn this breakdance move lol!
i'ts really difficoult to me keeping my legs straight after the first half, any advise?
keep practsing. it takes a long time to get down.
Is having the ability to do a pancake necessary?
0:49 nice windmill
To anyone wanting to learn how to flare. First you need to do is pay no attention to people saying you need to be very strong. That’s bs. All you need to do is be able to lift your own weight or should I say maintain holding up your weight. Once your arms can handle your weight. Learn the splits this will help those of you that have a hard time keeping your legs apart. The more your legs are apart and extended out the easier is will be. Especially when doing more than one. This will also eliminate the kicking because you will be moving off the pure momentum. When doing multiple flares you should think of it as if you are messing with a hoola hoop.
I always wanted to learn this😒
My kick back leg keep bending how can i fix it
You need to stretch and do so as if you want to do the splits.
올림픽 금메달도 걸수있을듯~
Damn, gotta watch him in slow motion lol
Hardest move I ever learn.
Simoster fun
I could do windmills and master swipes but could never get or understand the 6 step because the instructions back then were so crap
lol are you shitting me...you learnt to do a windmilll and swipes but not a 6 step...its a peace of piss in comparison to any powermove. you can learn a 8 step in a day unlike windmills and swipes.
@@djam7484 like I said.. the instructions on the internet back then were so freaking crap probably because internet couldn’t handle high res video back then … maybe I was able to do it but I didn’t have a clue if it was doing it right or not haha
sensei you can do tutorial in Spanish, thank you greetings from MEDELLÍN Colombia👊🙏
Watch with subtitles on.

IT'S CLEAN
I'm 33, is it too late for me?
No. It’s not. I’m 44 and I have been talked in to going back in to Breakin so I can teach my 9 year old nephew.
If this is your first time learning you will be fine. It’s much harder when you have done it and than been out for over a near 20 years.
I started originally in 1992 and was in it til 1997. When I stopped that’s when the air flare started to be a new thing.
I was 17 years old when I quit. I’m 44 now. I can do most of it but it’s really tough being 250 pounds. I was only a buck fifty when I mastered all of it.
The most flares I did in my younger years was nearly 50 flares. I had total control when doing them. I could do them in one spot without moving around, I also controlled speed and do them really slow, fast. I could do them from the floor out of a ground shuffle and do them like Simon is doing them.
To a beginner I would say to get use to stretching. The groin area and the hamstring the entire leg. Both you should stretch a lot to get those legs and keeping them spread. Basically stretch and work as if you’re trying to achieve the splits. A little lifting and curling with the arms will also serve you well. My trouble rigth now at 44 is muscle memory along with. Lack of working out and muscle loss.
You see as a beginner I will tell you the kick will need to be a good. A good leg whip will give you the gas to perform 1 flare.
Once you have learned to flare the kick no longer has to be a hard kick. Because naturally you will see that momentum, balance, hand placement are key. I would advise you to go for a good posture first. And if you are a first timer. Get yourself linoleum and get a good 10x10 because you will be all I ever the place Learning. And either put some carpet underneath the linoleum if you don’t got carpet than outside on the grass is fine. You will get beat up a bit that’s why this is absolutely necessary
